Episode 3 of this trip: • Inca Trail Thru Hike E...
Join me, my wife Hannah, and two of her best friends Jordan and Audrey as well travel thousands of miles to South America to thru hike the Inca Trail! This was my first time out of North America, and the cultural and geographical differences in Peru were mind blowing. It was such a treat getting to explore Cusco for a couple days before our hike began.
This was our fourth and final full day on the Inca Trail, travelling from the the Wiñay Wayna ruins to the ancient Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu. The archaeology there was completely mind-blowing, and the views weren't too shabby either ;)

Hey thanks so much for tuning in to this series! I’m glad to hear your enjoyed it. I’m really happy that you found my channel through my R2R videos! Man, I wish you the best of luck on your attempt in a few months. I hope the mud isn’t too bad but I’m not confident it will be dried by then. Just bring a couple backup pairs of dry socks!😅

Awesome series! Too bad you felt awful for some of it, but you roughed it smoothly! Thanks for capturing on film so we could experience the majesty. Your cinematography keeps getting better and better! Not that it was ever lacking but the images you capture now really tell a story by themselves. Truly next level. Glad you made it back to the Bluegrass safely!

Thanks so much for this thoughtful comment! Now that I’ve finally gotten through this footage, it makes me glad and proud that I pushed through the sickness to keep my camera rolling. It allows me and good people like you the chance to experience places like this! Really appreciate your words about my cinematography- I have been working really hard at developing at “eye” for framing good shots while on trail. Stay tuned- lots more to come!

Thanks so much for watching! Your comment is really encouraging to me, because it reminds me of why I make videos like this- to share these places with others who might not be able to get to those areas on their own. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

What a climactic ending to a life-changing trip! I enjoyed every minute of this the 2nd (or 3rd) time through. And I'll probably eventually watch the all-in-one video. Especially if I need to do some research for my own future trip 😉
0:45 What’s the opposite of Trail Magic? Because a customs checkpoint on the trail is it, haha.
1:35 I think you captured this pretty well! Everybody is doing their best monkey-climb up this thing.
2:45 I thought the other ruin sites were impressive, but Maccu Picchu makes them look like little outposts. This looks like it shouldn’t even be able to exist. It’s so strangely otherworldly up there among the foggy peaks.
3:45 This is interesting. I would have assumed that it was abandoned because of the conquistadors. But I can also see how difficult it would be for anyone to attack this place.
4:30 It almost doesn’t even look like ruins. It looks practically new. Like it could be inhabited again with just a little fixing up.
5:00 I love this shot. The pattern of those leaves is trippy!
7:20 One of my favorite things about this series is how you left in a lot of the conversations going on in the background. It was fun picking out little snippets of conversations, and it added to the feeling of being among a group of travelers.
8:50 Yikes! Is this a blood groove? Not that I want to see human sacrifice, but I enjoy trying to imagine what all of this might have looked like when it was in use. And the condor temple is just too cool.
9:15 Speaking of human sacrifice, this bus ride looks like a good way to do it.
9:20 Are there hot springs in Aguas Calientes?
9:47 Oh nooo, hahaha. This guinea pig made me laugh very uncomfortably…
10:17 This is quite possibly the most horrifying dish I’ve ever seen. Did they have to leave the teeth in?! That guinea pig looks like it died an agonizing death. And yet… I’d still eat it. I just might need a couple of those brandy drinks beforehand, hahaha.
12:22 What a cool town. Made even cooler by the fact that it’s so inaccessible. I love places like this. They are mucho wow-wow. Also, this must be your best-ever post-hike meal location!
14:15 This train ride looks much better than the bus ride, haha. Whoever put in those skylights was a genius.
15:38 This beer is making me thirsty. You deserved it, and another post-hike meal, and a day of relaxation, after the trip down from Macchu Picchu. That looked almost as exhausting as the hike itself.
17:15 You know how I know you were completely exhausted at this point? Because your FOMO wasn’t kicking in on Rainbow Mountain!
17:22 This is one of my favorite shots in the entire series. Just a lone traveler exploring the ancient streets of a strange city.
19:15 This entire ending sequence - and this shot, in particular - perfectly captures the bittersweet feeling of returning home after a life-changing trip.
20:34 I don’t know what this is about, but I cracked up laughing 🤣
20:54 It’s a miracle you were able to get as much footage as you did considering all the photobombing that was going on 😂
Thanks for putting in the time and effort to film this crazy trip and put it all together for us. I'm not sure I'll ever get a chance to do it myself, but having these videos is the next best thing. I wish you well on your next life-changing journey! It's not far off now!

0:45 It wasn’t as bad waiting as I thought it would be! The getting up at 3am was the worst part of that whole morning haha.
1:35 I sure would hate to climb an entire mountain from base to summit on a monkey staircase! That would be a quad killer!
2:45 Idk if you have ever seen the pictures of Machu Picchu when it was discovered by Hiram Bingham, but the jungle completely took over the city and it was in ruins! They have done so much work to make it look like it does today.
3:45 Why is it that the most illustrious people groups disappear in the most mysterious, unknown ways?
4:30 Throw some thatch on those frames and we got ourselves some glamping going on!
5:00 I love the name of this plant, too. It sounds like how Benedict Cumberbatch says “penguins” (Yes, you need to look this up 😉 )
7:20 Who says a little point and shoot camera can’t get decent background audio?! 😉
8:50 I think this was a part of their water system to move running water into their cisterns. It would be a terrifying blood canal!
9:15 Bwhahahaahah that bus ride was a nightmare. The local driving it was literally whipping around those hairpin turns.
9:20 Yessir! If we had more time, that would have been an epic post hike recovery activity!
9:47 Foreshadowing of whats to come…
10:17 “The snack that smiles back….guinea pig!” 😉; it tasted like really tough chicken. I am glad I had that brandy shot and a beer before I partook of that ugly thing haha!
12:22 It definitely was a spot to remember to end a hike! I would love to go back there and just hang out for a week. Their restaurants and coffee shops were legit.
14:15 I LOVED this train ride. So much fun getting to see so much of the Andes before nightfall came.
15:38 I wish I could remember what it was that I had, but it was SO good. Peruvian beer was much better than I expected. And you weren’t kidding about the return trip from Machu Picchu. It was so tiring!
17:15 Bwhahahaaha and I still have no regrets. I was so done by that point.
17:22 Not going to lie, it was pretty nerve wrecking trying to get a cab on my own from the Air Bnb to the airport by myself.
19:15 You are so right! When I saw that Lexington sign as we picked up our luggage, I already had that nagging sensation of “okay, where to next?” It’s amazing what our minds do when we go on opposite sides of the fence of life and look at the grass from a different angle haha.
20:34 Have you ever seen that meme before? Just type in “okay meme” and you will find where I got it 😉
20:54 They were relentless! Almost as many photobombs as the trail tribe does!
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and rewatch every episode of this series, and continue to leave such thoughtful comments. It definitely is such a fun way for me (and hopefully you, too) to try and express how important your friendship is to me! I really hope that you will get the chance to do some adventuring in Peru sometime down the road of life, but even if you don’t, I know you will find adventures of your own that will leave just as big an impression on your life as this trip did for me. And you can always return to this series if you need a South American fix 😉 Thanks again, Sir Chadwick Septentrion!

Well the almost year and a half wait was so worth it to finally see Machu Picchu😊 What a magnificent and interesting site . The architecture of all the structures was unbelievable . Was that a rabbit or a guinea pig when you were filming that gray block? Speaking of guinea pig omword it still had its teeth in it being served on a platter 🤢🥺Still in awe that you all did this 😳👍🏻!! Congratulations on this trek! Proud of you ! Love you !

Thanks so much Mom! I’m glad it was worth the wait! I think that animal was a rabbit-like rodent native to Peru, it was kinda creepy looking. And that Guinea pig was wild to see on this plate! He let me try some and it tasted like chicken🤣Thanks for always watching and commenting! Love you!
