A school system close to where I live just served its 17 different schools...... 6 yr old pork . They had just discovered close to 800lbs of it stored in the back of their walk-in freezer... the t.v. reporter said the boxes of pork said "use by 2010"..... the lunch staff said the meat smelled so BAD that they were told to make a strong gravy and pour over the meat to cover up the stinch..... so far no kid's have died... just had some MASSIVE SHITS.....true story.... google it... Tn school serves 6 year old pork.....

I had to each a bunch of MRE’s while in the military and you could really start to make so good stuff and find the best stuff in them. Best combo was the chicken noodle soup get it hit with the heater and the cheese spread and most have a little bottle of Tabasco! Mix all that together and you got some pretty good food for Afghanistan war zone.
Eat enough and they'll look like Meghan Trainor..:)(She had the big hiut when the was posted, April 2014, with ALL ABOUT THAT BASS..great song)

Those MREs look absolutely delicious. I would eat those on a regular basis if I could. Given their description though, I'm probably the only one.
No, they're great! (To me.) I know because I took a JROTC class in school. On one of our field trips, the military guys there let us each take one home as a souvenir.
***** Was also in JROTC in Highschool. Marines. We went to Camp Gruber in Oklahoma and ate MRE's on a field exercise. Learned not to ever eat the gum that night.
Would rather eat from the mermites than MREs. Hated eating them especially in the field 24/7 but then again field kitchen sucked ass. Liquid eggs

I love how consistent Rhett and Link are. The production and the episodes have become better, but this show is still fundamentally the same. It’s rare to have CZcamsrs still feel as fresh as they did near the beginning of their channel

When my dad was in the army he would bring home ration packs (I'm assuming they're the same/ similar to MREs) and me and my brother would camp in the backyard and live off ration pack food for days haha

The MRE's I get always have the laxative gum and occasionally have the little bottle of Tabasco. Haven't seen the toilet paper or else they expect you to use the napkin as toilet paper. certainly no matches in them. I've seen little coffee packets in them as well.

I was a food inspector in the army and it was my job to extend the life of MREs (after the initial 2 years) and I can say for sure that cheese spread was well past it’s peak freshness 😫. It was either mishandled or at least 7 years old!

I did this too, but the C-rations were only about 26 years old at the time. I dug them up when digging a fighting position when I was a junior soldier.
The MREs are no where near as old as the C-rat they have.
I ate a bite of the C-rats and they made me sick. As you would expect.
I keep hearing about soldiers saying they got ww2 rations years and years later, like 70s and even 80s. Somebody has to be lying but I suspect there were a lot of those rations left over.
525Lines I was given an entree from WW2 C rats for lunch the date on the can was 1943.I was served this meal in 1964. True story,I don't care what you believe,the Crats had so much preservative in them that if the can was not damaged they would keep for years. The Vietnam era Crats came out about that time,and the ham and eggs were just barely edible unless mixed with enough Tabsco,which was not furnished with the Crats. We had our people back in the world mail tabsco to us or stole it from the Mess Hall.
charles woods I can believe them being issued through the 60s and had high school teachers who served in Vietnam & said they got WW2 rations. Even had one teacher still have a WW2 dated P38 still on his key chain which corroborates the story, since the P38s came with the C-ration crates. I can see the dry goods being issued indefinitely. I'd eat the Charms from a WW2 C-ration. This all is a bit like those stories of how late Civil War era hardtack was being issued!

You may love these (MREs) now, but wait until you get to eat them for weeks at a time. If you don't drink a lot of water with them you will stop pooping. Omelet with ham and corned beef hash are the worst. The only thing good about the old canned pack is the P-38 can opener. That little thing will open just about any can known to man.
I can personally attest to the constipation. Though they are delicious, I personally really only liked the ranger bars. Those things were the shiznit. Best energy you could ever hope to get right there, aside from a PB&H sammy.

+Lion Celica the heater is an FRH, flameless ration heater. It uses a chemical mix od iron and magnesium with salt so when you add water, the electorlytes from the salt create a mini battery with the magnesium and iron. No fire.

The Jufasa Yeah, new ones are. You can get the old ones(from the mid 80s) for about 2$ a pop at some surplus stores. They have a shelf life of 40+ years, but the military swaps them off at about 10 yrs. With cadets we had some that were still good from the 60s... just don't get the ham steak in pineapple sauce... or the fruitcake dessert(we called them frisbees).

I can't stomach some of the MRE's though, like ravioli... if I was in the military and got that, I'd be looking for a trade.

Word to the wise: Mountain House. Freeze-dried food lasts a lot longer and is generally cheaper-per-calorie than MRE style foods are. Hard to go wrong with dried beans and rice stored in sealed containers, too.
Given how the world is shaping up, food storage is something everyone needs to be doing right now.

I live in Florida and when Hurricanes hit my area and the power goes out for weeks, MREs are usually handed out for free from volunteers. And they don't taste that bad at all; they kinda taste like your standard TV dinner.

Little fact;
MREs sent to war zones were made to always taste somewhere between bad to ok, but never "great" a few decades ago. They've stopped doing that now, mainly because the food isn't as rationed now as it was back then but;
The reason was because, obviously they were rationed, so making something taste bad or "it's ok but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat it" made sure that people wouldn't shove it down their throats quickly then want more, since these things are supposed to last you all day, and a lot of days you'd go without eating them at all.
The MREs are supposed to be a source to keep them going, rather then an actual enjoyment thing. Hence why they don't taste THAT great, even today. But back during the Vietnam war, these would taste horrible on purpose, so that people didn't eat it all at once.
I laughed so hard when link said that the mre came with a barf bag, I spit hot tea all over my lap!
ok so... i served in the military for 6 years, i have eaten every MRE they have to offer and you managed to land on my favorite (the ribs) and a mediocre one... when you put this on a plate i could not stop laughing!!!!! you guys are the best! this one hit close to home for me and you guys are just the best!
