Was pretty emotional to watch. Must have been so hard for the kid, 16 years old and seeing his dreams fall apart, really felt for him after the penultimate round. Then to qualify and finish 8th at the last round, wow what a weight off his mind that must have been. Fair play to Wyatt, hopefully next season he won't feel the pressure as much and puts in some top results.

You've gained a few genuine fans today Wyatt. Through the middle I was like "just have fun", but I guess it's easier said than done. I would definitely extend your contract for next year if it was up to me... even if you hadn't qualified a single time. Another mega episode, the narrative and production were off the charts. I like how the Scottish and French management were honest about the results versus expectations through the season. And Aimi pacing the finish line at the junior men's final in MSA. Also, it's kind of there, but not sure Sleeper Co. necessarily get the credit for their role in the team, they're clearly bringing more than just some cameras, laptops and music.
Request for 2024, it would be great to have a short film to introduce the team, it's easier to get behind people when you know what they're about, and goals for the season.

That was about as dramatic as it gets. From tear jerking depression to surprises to elation. Amazing.
So basically the teams that don't develop kids to race locally are basically waiting for them to achieve something then step in to take the credit rather than making investments in kids futures. Teams developing juniors will create dynastys.

Red Bull does this in Formula 1. They recruit kids from around the world and invest in them. They have their own race team.

As an 18 year old struggling with the same stuff Wyatt is putting himself through, it's amazing to see that people are talking about it. Pressure is such a big thing mentally and it's so easy to just say things like, "Just have fun out there," or, "All that matters is that you finish," but everyone knows that people have other goals they're going for and it's disappointing to not reach them and it takes a toll. Stoked to see him have a great final race and put together what he's been working towards all this time.
It’s true, they don’t realize the pressure they put on the developing rider. They should shoulder the pressure for him and take them under their wing instead of treating him like a full pro.
Crushing lows, soaring highs - it's why we love racing, baby.
What a fantastic story. Two words: sports psychology. Everything about this hinges on the mental aspect of the sport. This is literally the applicability of downhill mountain biking in everyday life. Without recognizing this connection, it's just random chaos. So much to learn from this. Congrats Wyatt, I look forward to next year's story!

It's amazing to watch young riders like Wyatt and Ami, and see how their mindset develops, see how they interpret things. One thing i would say, is we need to get kids and young adults to understand is that failure is not a waste of an opportunity. Failure, is a perception of their interpretation of the idea that they never achieved what they perceived the idea to be about. Opportunity exists to learn, and what will happen is you will learn what instruments and tools you need to acquire to overcome obstacles. Sometimes, you need to go through the same lesson over and over again until your mindset changes and understands that the perceptions you had or have wheren't the best or could be better. Opportunities are never a waste, NEVER. Wyatt grew so much in such a short period of time, and Ami rediscovered herself after a terrible concussion. What gifts and life lessons earned from a vast opportunity.

I see myself a lot in Wyatt. The feeling of hopelessness and “why can’t I get it right” is so hard to break out of, but he did it! An incredible story.

Another absolutely brilliant episode. Wyatt is a champ for taking all that pressure and the set backs and in true fairy tale style coming through and proving to himself he has got what it takes. The whole PBR team and Sleeper crew are just a really good bunch and I think it's a massive help not just for themselves but to each other and to those who aspire to go further. Theres no shine put on when it's bad but plenty when when its good. It's so tough. to make it stick that even seasoned pros are having to really work to get where they know they should be so for these youngsters to even get close is a mammoth effort.
That boy needs love not pressure and they forgot he’s not a man yet. Look how he did after he gave him a hug and the support he needed. He’s a minor guys, take care of the kid and he’ll kill it for you. Also look how he did when he knew he was at the end and was feeling the pressure come off. Killed it.
Out of all the years of watching pinkbike content this would have to be the best video.

What an amazing video of my grandson’s journey to his first World Cup. Pink Bike crew, you have done a fabulous job of portraying Wyatt and what he went through. I've only been kinda sponsored for a national race once (was given a dirt bike for the race and technical support) with no-one expecting anything of me and i was seriously crushed when i wasn't even able to crack the top 10. think back when you learned a new trick and how things felt unnatural, not because you didn't know how to ride a bike but because the adjustments are so fine and so quick that your mind and body didn't have enough time to catch and understand what needs to be done.
and once things clicked it's difficult to understand how or why it didn't click the day before or the day before that... everything takes time, not always the same amount but it averages out so be patient for the things that may take longer... wishing you all the best!

Sweet. At the start he looked like a Rabbit in the headlights, somewhat startled and almost overwhelmed! Kicked in the teeth to start with, then enough cases to kick him in the balls and a fall or three to top the next few rounds off without qualifying! Somehow he found the reset button, snapped out of his 'depression' and delivered. So pleased for him, glad he found the fun again, which also seemed to give him progression, momentum and some speed to get into finals at MSA no less, home turf!!! Top ten ... Awesome video, almost a copy-book of how a season might go and how close it gets to just not getting going! Fair play Pinkbike, you were there for him. 😜

And this is why I don´t care World cup racing. I like races (amateur) but because MTB is fun, when the fun factor disapears ... it is a job and for me MTB is not a job, it is fun, it is the motor of my life. I want to ride my bicycle, I want to be fast ... but I don´t want to be a pro. I discover that, I need something fun to do after my job and it is MTB. I still feel the need for speed after many years of MTB. 🤙

If anyone here is racing: what is your tactic going into practice? Just get a feel for the track and once it fells ok start trying lines or hit lines right away?
I have two questions: Seeing that when he crashed the trend was loosing the front end. Was the V-10 new to him and was anything being done to adjust his setup? Was there any time to just go and ride for fun in between races to help him keep his stoke high on riding?
He was on a Supreme the season before and did some pre season testing on the V10 with the PBR team. During the season he came back to BC and did a few races and I’m sure his setup was constantly changing with his mechanic.
From what I saw at the beginning if you put him through some snow riding that will help get his balance up on slippery rocks.
Hopefully he trains hard this winter to become stronger on the bike… excellent potential but he crashed so often 😢

Wyatt you f****** belong. Don't ever think you don't. Like AC/DC says "It's a long way to the top, if you want to rock and roll!". You're doing the hard work that most people don't want to do to be at that level. Don't pressure yourself for results, or even to have fun. Fun can be the long view. The journey. Stay the course if you like racing.

i came close to racing worldcups... been in the top at european championship and yes one mistake can cost you all :/ now i'm over racing but love mtb's still
PBR should invest in a sports psychologist - it would make a huge difference in shaping the young talents...

What’s happened to Pinkbike Academy.
I don't understand why Nathan Pontvianne and Mylann Falquet are listed by UCI as members of the Pinkbike team, but they're totally ignored in Cathro's videos. They finished 2nd and 4th overall in Juniors this year. Meanwhile, Harrington only got points in 1 of 8 races this year, finished 30th overall, and he's featured.
As far as I understand, they listed another team as PBR aswell, because otherwise they would have not been eligable to start at some races or to register as a team because there is some requirement regarding UCI-points or something like that...
I think it was mentioned in one of the videos that Goodman were limited in supporting them in the latter part of the season (the NA races in particular). Therefore Pinkbike - having similar sponsors in Santa Cruz - took them under their wing as they had rider spaces available. Both still raced in Goodman kit. (Thomas Ollier too.)
I would absolutely LOVE to see a video on them, but the coverage may not exist. I think they were only sharing pits with the Pinkbike team in NA.

Anyone at that level should be using a sports psychologist. The pressure isn’t going anywhere, but it can be harnessed with the right mindset. The best athletes feed on pressure instead of letting it crush them, and it’s a skill that can be taught, to some extent
im just gonna speak plainly , for juniors 8th place dont seem impressive to a layperson like me , but within the industry what does this mean for a young lad like him ?
