P.S
As far as I watch this video, I didn't see anyone complaint about the practice of burial. What they are talking about are the new experience they had to go through impacted from Covid-19. First, there are more deaths, so the mortuary have to be on call 24/7. Second, they can't meet with their parents from the time they were sick till they died. Aside from that, there's lesser time for them to grieve by the body's side.
Like has been said by the last interviewee, Islam do provides flexibility. The practice is not the problem, occurrent death and attending the loved ones are.

It's a tough setting. A virus and a religion's burial process. A relative of mine died during COVID, not of it mind you, and the funeral was difficult as you're only allowed 30 or so people. They were cremated. The wake afterwards was difficult too - hosted at a neighbouring pub where the owners were very bossy about where people could and couldn't go. I get it; I've always worn a mask outside, never broken the rules. It's like the people complaining they can't get married yet because of the virus. IMO the number one task for everyone right now should be to stop the virus so life can return quickly, and no more variants show up. To those wanting to get married you just have to tell them "tough, just wait like the rest of us". And to those wanting funerals that go against scientific anti-viral rules (aka not just government rules because they're racist and bad) you gotta say the same thing but gentler. Needs must right now. My partners a teacher and the virus has hugely impacted our lives - it'll be ages till they work again and we're sacrificing time, money, our decision to wait for the virus to end before having kids, not seeing loved ones in person, etc.
And I hate racists. I'm just throwing that out there. I just fucking hate them. Our social circle have had to ostracise two people for being Trump supporters (They're English to boot!) and holding horribly racist, xenophobic, misogynistic beliefs. Just hate them. Don't know how anyone can be supportive of those terrorists that stormed that US building trying to overthrow a legit and most fairest election of all time.
My prayers and condolences to the bereaved muslim families of the deceased ones. May Allah grant them highest reward and Rank in Jannah.

The rules can be change during time like this. To avoid the dangerous virus transfer to living people. Its not wrong. In malaysia, government do the burial for covid victims. Bodies that died as syahid have some exception, one of it is they are allowed being buried without being washed first. Some islamic law even considered people died due to the plague as syahid ,so maybe that law can be used to make burial process less complicated. Cmiiw
There are two types of shaheed, one who dies in battle and the other who dies for various other reasons e.g. plague, drowning, protection of property etc. The latter are shaheed in reward in the hereafter and still undergo all the funeral rites of a non shaheed
In Islam, washing the body is not required when a person dies as a martyr. People who died from pandemics like COVID are considered as martyrs in Islam. Subhanallah
