Im from a suburb in Texas that grew very rapidly while I was young.
I watched every area of untouched land, pastures, & woods that I played/explored in when I was a kid all get dug up before my eyes & turned into roads, neighborhoods, apartments, condos, townhomes, a golf course, a very large grocery store & shopping center, and a multi-lane toll road.
Every creek/stream that was in our immediate/particular area got dug up, filled in with either concrete, rocks, dirt, & grass, and turned into drainage ditches or rainwater runoff areas.
The creeks/streams that we fished in & picked crawfish & little shrimp-things out of the water are gone. Either dry, or destroyed.
95% + of the wildlife in our area is gone.
The peace & quiet is gone.
It’s been heartbreaking to watch it happen over all these years.

Besides that, it gave people a great sense of wonder, of pride, joy, spiritual wholeness, wellness, whatever else you want to add Im sure it was felt. People have forgotten that America was the first place ever to make a National Park, and we just dont have pride in our natural areas as much as 100 years ago +. I realize the swamps arent necessarily Nat'l Parks but theyre beloved treases all the same, and I feel we need to protect them. Once ruined and gone, we cannot recreate them. They are Nature made, period. We mess this up with greed, thats it, gone.

Jobs are not worth the destruction of a natural landscape. I’m sorry that’s a shitty fucking thing to say but it’s the truth. What we need is a government that invests in GREEN industry that doesn’t mine our national and state parks, protected areas and wildlife refugees.
