    I've been going down a Guthrie Govan rabbit hole lately and I'm amazed at what a pleasant, attentive, and likable guy he is; especially a guy with such a huge amount of talent. For me, that's as amazing as his musical prowess.

    What a class act. I adore that man.

      @Kingding6 Před 8 lety +4

      +ZOMBIELANDakaUSA I was at an aristocrats gig in august. Bryan and Marco stuck around for 10-15 min afterwards, then left. Guthrie literally talked to every single person who wanted to speak with him. I was the last person in the club, along with my girlfriend, waiting to speak with him. This was after, during the concert, him politely asking people not to ask for selfies after the concert because he had face planted the other day, and his nose was fucked up. After the show, so many people were asking for selfies, and he was getting visibly agitated. Finally, after everyone else had dissipated and it was just him, myself and my girlfriend, I approached him. I told him we had flown to montreal from Halifax, Nova Scotia just to see the show, and that I dragged my girlfriend with me. She told him she was initially just humouring me (she's amazing), but that it was the best concert shed ever seen, just totally blown away. He looked at us in bemusement, saying "ah, you guys enjoy self inflected torture I see". Then, I asked him if he might agree to a selfie, with our heads turned away and our hands raised in the customary rock sign. He agreed. I apologize for the lengthy ramble, but I can personally attest to not only this guys otherworldly musicianship, but also to his unbelievably cool and friendly demeanour.

    I really enjoy listening Guthrie. so modest person, kind and good and his amazing way of speaking (broad vocabulary), describing things - like painting and seeing at once. vy intelligent person and fantastic guitarist. he's probably the best musician on the planet currently and still down to earth. Best of luck, Guthrie! yo!

    He's so ridiculously humble, I love his approach to the instrument and music itself. The whole "guitar as a typewriter and not the book" analogy is brilliant, I can see how he manages to be so creative when he doesn't limit himself to sounding like a stereotypical guitar player.

    In addition to being one of the greatest of all time- I love how he's engaging even with the most sterile and obvious interview questions. When he's asked to catagorize his works into one genre he settles on fusion, and is then asked to consider rock again. He was even asked to disparage a top 3 'overrated' guitarists! Guthrie understandably detours, and offers more valuable insight. |m|

    I've followed Guthrie ever since he started transposing for Guitar Techniques when to me, he was always the player who could get closer to the original than anyone else. His music now is not the sort of music I am into, but I could not name anyone more technically capable or able to cover so many genres. This interview also demonstrates how humble, intelligent and genuine he is.

    I think sometimes people miss the point of the distinction between what Guthrie Govan does and practicing. He still sat for hours playing VERY SLOWLY, focusing on perfect contact and timing. The point in his mind he was just playing music, and slowing it down, because he was struggling with it. He never sits down to do a half an hour of sweep picking exercises. But if he's having trouble with a complicated sweep, he might spend a half an hour working on it slowly. See what I mean?

  • @dennoow

    @Shun101010 Před 11 lety

    I think at first he thought she was talking about practicing recently. He probably played quite a bit when he was younger or else he's a genie. The point that he made though was that you shouldn't only practice exercises but you should play music so it's not like practice.
