      @Hopper33 There are a few still living in Europe who owe their freedom and their lives to the US from WW2. That legacy still stands strong, although it did take a hit from the insurrection. Not because it erases the noble actions of that time, but because it made us wonder, briefly, if the US of today wasn't turning into the countries it fought against back then.

    Here's the contours of what we know:
    1. The Republican party, with elected or appointed officials at the top level of all three branches of the U.S. Government, planned and executed a coup d'etat attempt.
    2. A part of the coup attempt was to seditiously incite a terrorist insurrection that would stop the peaceful transfer of power after the most secure, and examined election in U.S. history at the *exact time* and *exact place* where it is Constitutionally mandated to occur.
    3. Both the coup attempt and the insurrection almost succeeded.
    4. The Pentagon, the DHS, the FBI and the DOJ had people who acted to uphold their oaths and helped thwart the coup -- but all also had people aiding and abetting it or otherwise acting as accomplices, both before, during and after the events.
    5. The Republican party's top elected leader (he holds that spot today and held it then) literally said about Trump after the coup, "the Democrats will take care of that SOB for us" -- yet, nearly all who showed a spine that day or after have cowered behind Trump after his cult-of-personality came after their power and hammered them with death threats.
    6. The forces that saved us from dictatorship that day were primarily the Capitol police and the DC Metropolitan police, who have earned little but hollow praise preceding heaped scorn from elected Republicans in the Congress.

    • @aoeu256
      @aoeu256 Před 2 lety

    • @pluribus_unum
      @pluribus_unum Před 2 lety

      @@aoeu256 - The violent insurrection only failed because the Vice President, the Pentagon, the DC Mayor, and the Governors of MD and VA all acted to defend the nation from a coup plot that had a fully staffed legal team, and well calculated seditious speech designed to incite a violent insurrection that got within seconds of seizing and likely executing the Vice President to decapitate our government during the peaceful transfer of power.
      You can feel however you want, but those are the facts.
      Your veiled threat that the next insurrection will topple our government is not clever, or cogent -- just run-if-the-mill running off at the mouth.

      In addition, a lot of the companies that are going through a shortage (such as Amazon, McDonalds, and Tesla) are *still* reporting massive and record profits, so the solution is literally to just pay people more.

    A Helium shortage is pretty serious because it is a finite resource. There is only so much in existence on Earth and when it's gone, it's gone. Since it is necessary for operating MRI machines we should be doing more to preserve what we have.

    Little mistake, it wasn't a parliamentary no confidence vote, because that would involve all of parliament. Boris's no confidence vote was a Tory party commons no confidence vote, so only the MP's from the Tory party, so no lords or ladies, and no members of the opposition.
