- This is some very rare footage I just ran into thanks to "CosmikD" who took the time to rip it. This is some home video taken which captures Zappa amongst friends and musicians at a private gathering. I hope you enjoy this rare video and share it with other zappa heads!

I can't explain how thankfull i'm for this vid. I'm going to cry
You are not the only one ... tears sometimes come to me when i see n listen to FZ concerts or Zappa play Zappa shows .... I realise how FZ touched my mind and touch me again and again
........all life long
eightintheblock I was just watching this video and you commented this. Didn't remember I posted that 3 years ago. Damn, I love Frank
This is Matt Groening's 39th birthday party. He's in there, along with Beverly D'Angelo.
Breaking boundaries until the very end, Zappa's unique gift was to bring the best out of every musician he ever worked with. Still missed. Still loved.
What a JOY to see FZ so happy with a smile ear to ear!
This is GREAT ! True musicianship . Un-spoiled, un adulterated. Given the opportunity, I would want to be surrounded by great artist's like this if I knew my day's were numbered. You were truly gifted & blessed Frank. We all miss you very much.
AT 54:59 - The vocal performance that became "Calculus" on the "Dance Me This" album!
Part of this footage was shown on the BBC a few years ago. I'm really glad it has appeared in its totality. Much appreciated.
It's really no surprise Frank knew the Chieftains. He's been a big fan of sea shanties for some time--the music and the lyrics. My uncle performs in a group that goes up and down the east coast. They've even performed for the President. I played in fife and drums. Old-school rocks.
Some good ole Celtic music with Huun Huur Tu. How the East was Won.
There's Motorhead Sherwood at 13.50!
A dream come true! Thanks for uploading this amazing material!
Thank You for uploading!! can not get enough Zappa
johnny guitar watson . bozzio. this is awesome , and very intimate .
I love this I almost feel invited into the Zappa home. So much love!
Thank you for making such magical piece of history available for all to see and hear!
I went to see Frank Zappa back in 1970 It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen Front row my hands on the stage .... It was my first with my friends....
I've wanted to see this for years. Thank you for putting it up!
It's good to see Frank smile with that Strat in his hands.
That is superb. Thank you for the sharing.
Dude! Thanks for this treasure of a post! This has got to be one of the most interesting posts on youtube! A zillion thumbs up!!!
God, this is so beautiful. Frank looked very happy, despite his condition. I’m getting choked up here. I recall it being broadcast on TV, perhaps on the BBC. Thanks for uploading.
thank you for this moment .
..so unique musicien number 1 was FZ
i learned to listen to all the musics with him
You Bet I'll share it, I'll treasure this. Thank you so very much......William
THIS video is EXACTLY the PRO to technology in the 21st century---breaking down the barriers and introducing new audiences to an art form that may have laid undiscovered by some....I tell my niece and nephew about what I look up and after they tease me a bit (lol) Im always pleasantly surprised by their initial reaction to music or art outside their frame of reference....THANK YOU for posting this and making sure that HISTORY is known---FRANK is a huge part of it and Im glad to share it
Almost 30 years later I'm finally getting to see this. I noticed Motorhead was present Also L.shankar on violin.thanks for posting this. All the best. Jack C . NYC
la sonrisa de Zappa, es contagiante... lo veo y sonrío yo también.
Somehow you always knew Frank would get a thrill out of the Chieftans and Huun Huur Tu intertwining their music. We miss you Frank
Zappa forever
This was lovely ! Thanks
Oooohhhh how niiiiiceee!!!!! Thank so much!
Amazing. What a find; thanks so much.
No words can express...........
Moterhead at 13:35
one of Zappa's only friends from the original mothers.
57:46 kongar-ool ondar is such a vibrant performer. most people in this movie are just playing like it is a recording session (which is totally fine since it is) but he performs this like a king.
🎼💜 infinitely loved beyond words, time, and measure. 👆💫
I love it so much
Great and thank
I did some investigating because I've just found out the music of Tuva is beautiful! I believe the song around the 45 min mark appears on the Live album by Huun-Huur-Tu the group that Frank worked with (or part of either way) The song around 45 min i believe is Ching Söörtukchülerining Yryzy / Song of the Caravan Drivers. And I also think that the song Calculus on Dance Me This (Which some of this material appears on) is the song directly after on Huur-Huun-Tu's Live album entitled Borbanngadyr. Frank Zappa is a God!
Thank you for this info - I've known of this style of singing, but amazing to hear this mix of cultures.
Very good. ..stumbled on article ...Zappa Drinks and Goes Home.....
talks about Margarita Fridays that started during last few years of Zappas life and that he actually began to enjoy them. Good info re "salons"
What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
Other worldly! I am speechless!
When I 1st heard about this I was surprised by the group of friends ( he evidently was pals w/ the Chieftans for many years) at this jam/party, but not knowing the F.Z. personally it reminds me not to assume so much in life... of course this makes perfect sense.
What a legacy!
Thank you for posting!
great did not know this one... could make fantastic material for an ambient techno creation...
Great, thanks a lot!
bellissimo
Fantástico!! Emocionante ver o velho frank sorrindo com sua strat o colo!! Maravilhoso!!!
OMG this is available?! :O
I hear in one of his interview about this party, THNAKS SO MUCH for posting! :D
This is a beautiful video.
Thank you !
Thanks for posting, Dweezil!
Just reading some of the comments below one realizes (not least cos I feel exactly the same myself) that everyone seems to feel this deep. I can't say love... but a very familiar and warm feeling towards Frank. He is my main man. Only saw him once and think of it with reverence. Ironically though, Frank had nothing but contempt for his fans and it often would come through at his gigs. Not just the standing with his back to the audience and stuff like that but it is reported he was open with it
this is awesome thank you
Music is the best!
Thankyou for posting this! I enjoyed it very much and felt like I was a guest at the salad party :) The musicians are top notch. I would have liked this to become a completed production. May Frank Zappa rest in eternal peace~ Kay ((*_*))
what an amazing piece of history this is
Huun-Huur-Tu!
Music from this session FZ used in Amnerika from Civilization Phaze III
Hard to believe Frank is smiling all too well knowing he is dying of cancer. Truly enjoying what he loves...music....
I knew FZ for 17 years and L.Shankar.. wish I was at this party!!
Terry Bozzio is a phenomenal drummer. It's funny though, here it looks as if Jeff Spicoli had a brother who was a badass drummer as well. j/k lol :) I always return to watch this video, thank you for uploading.
do you know who owns this footage or who I could ask about it - Paddy Maloney of the Chieftains is working with me on a documentary about his work, and I would love to use some of this footage as he thought very highly of Frank as Frank did of the Chieftains
This was shot by the BBC for a programme they did on frank. I saw the edited version as apart of A&E's Biography series many years ago.
Tuvan throat singing!! Yes!
amazing footage
wow! never seen it before! thanks for sharing :)
love zappa
I miss you Frank. You were a true American Superhero. Having recently re-watched the testimony from the PMRC Congressional hearings I can say, without a doubt, that, like Superman, you stood up for Truth, Justice, and the American way.
Thank you, Tomtiddler1. That's a great help.
Frank used these Tuvan Throat singers on " dance me this " Excellent C.D. Gail released last year.
also in civilization p3, Dio Fa
emozionante!!!che genio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanx soooo much. its a real look at the inside. cheers&aloha.
thank you
Thank you.
@25:40 frank is really amused with the jam session. never seen him so happy.
What a smile at 25:00 ... from Frank , he was happy that night.
yes
Thanks 😍👍👍
Thx mate
Mi fa molto piacere vedere questi incontri c'era molta creatività
It sounds to me like is Frank is working on that BIG NOTE.
wow!
Zappa died December 4, 1993. He was definitely there in this session. If you watch the BBC clip from this session (also on youtube), you can see Frank in it.
Oh wow, the question Frank asks at 42:13, I was thinking the same thing!
Wow.
these "amazing musicians" are like Huun-Huur-Tu, traditionnal mongolian music and typical throat singing.. and i did not know that my god (zappa) did take interest in this music that i like very very much! this is amazing!!
this looks like that last jam session put together in Frank's honor at home wit his favorite musicians all done in his honor or at leas tin place of a memorial service (while he was still alive), I'm hearing l Shankar, the Cheiftains, the Tuvan throat singers...I guess Ry Cooder was there....
L Shankar on violin!
Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider (RIP) are 2 more of the guests.
MUSICIANS loved Frank Zappa. They got it.
Pop consumers, not so much.
As the late George Duke said, "I miss him"
one thing that we all love about frank is that he was always learning (about) music. he never hated anything until he found it trite and manipulating. i think bagpipes and eastern music were a big stretch and he didn't fight and played calm as if he was the student in many ways. i love fz. hope to see him in uranus. rock on!
Not such a stretch
Even towards the end, he loved to have interesting people surrounding him.
the guy in the green shirt, starting around the 54:00 mark, is something else. wonder if Frank could've duplicated THAT like he did the bagpipes on Zoot Allures.
nothing on youtube is 'rare', but thank you for this nonetheless!!! :-)
Hun Hurr Tu and the Chieftains... What a great combination!!!
It’s you!! It’s me!!! It’s us!!
Frank knew how to throw a party!
The family put on the brave face knowing that Frank is terminal.
but seriously folks. it sounds like a very relaxed deep vibration of the vocal chords , very precise control of the guttural glottis sounds,(grunting) and a fully open nasal passages for resonance as well as manipulation and annunciation of words(?) with the help of the shape of the mouth. the real sound "magic" is when they are in harmony. just another way we humans have learned to use this thing called "voice". its all too much man.. ;) its all good.
Wow
I can't believe that Zappa has The Chieftains at his house!
What a loss ..
siberian polyphonic singers ??? Amazing !
Oh it's from there? Sounds Irish. But I suppose folk music around Eurasia has a lot in common.
