True, Nintendo would have had to really like what Brace Yourself Games did with Crypt of the Necrodancer to greenlight this.
Especially since in an IGN interview after the announcement, Brace Yourself Games said that they originally approached Nintendo to do a small Zelda DLC for Crypt of the Necrodancer, but Nintendo showed so much enthusiasm for the idea of a crossover between these two series that it snowballed into a full blown Zelda themed sequel to Crypt of the Necrodancer.

This is one of the most novelity moments in gaming history I've experienced! An Indie developer got the chance to create a crossover between its own IP and one of Nintendo's top brands.
Brace Yourself Games deserved this so much! Necrodancer has been a lighthouse of creativity in an otherwise shallow and exhausted game developing environment.
What's even crazier is this is their 2nd ever game. And their name is literally perfect.

The story is nearly that:
The Studio asked Nintendo if it was possible to make a collaboration for a DLC of Necrodancer and while brainstorming about it... Nintendo was so inspired by the idea they propose to ask them for a full episode

@@keiyakins Probably for safety. Melody knew that place was dangerous, so she didn't risk any more lives being lost than her own. The only times two people went in together were by pure happenstance, and that was only near the end (Cadence and her dad)

The Legend of Zelda + Roguelike Gameplay? absolutely a masterpiece, retro graphic style, magnificent animations, atmosphere reminiscent of the mythical SNES. Nintendo you understand that this is the path of immortality right? I've been a Nintendo Fan since 1986, and I always will be.

This is one of the best ideas for Crypt of the Necrodancer sequel there could be. I wonder what was Spike Chunsoft involvment comparing to Brace Yourself Games. One thing I super hope so - they get good remixes again.

I keep watching this trailer over and over. They took my favorite franchise, my favorite game genre, and one of my favorite indie games, and mashed them up, in a trailer featuring my favorite Zelda song. They made this game specifically for me.

I'd say Nintendo approached them. The game is good, solid and probably sold well on the Switch.
I'd say Miyamoto himself played the original game, liked it's mechanics and originality a lot and through Nintendo decided to approach them. Just like Reggie did to get Fox in Star Link.
@@thiagodeandradeneves4585 yeah it's usually nintendo who approaches the companies to add chacters/stages/objects/music from nintendo franchises, they did it with soul calibour and with starlink, I remember saying a nintendo executive once (forgot his name) that they do it to make the nintendo version stand out from the rest.
