    Grease the track the window clips ride on most regulators come pre greased but adding some more and working the window up and down helps it slide better and puts less strain on the motor.

    Great video 😅 I actually had fun watching it. Would like more if you have time lol. I’m here because my 03 Tahoe window regulator just went completely out. Thankfully I already had the panel off but wanted to see about at least getting the window up for the night. Thinking I’m going to cut the cable and pull until the windows in place and wrap the cable around a bolt and secure temporarily. Anyone wondering it started having a scratching sound when rolling up and down also not wanting to roll up. I’m assuming the plastic clip inside the regulator broke and the cable is scratching when operating. Idk for sure.

    Make sure you clean any surfaces touching the glass. My old one's steel cables were freyed bad and the tiny metal bits scratched the glass when i operated the new one. Sprayed some silicone on it and it is fine now but i have a scratched window.

    Instead of using tape you can use a go pro suction or any strong suction thing. Makes it easier to move the window up and down as well

    Thank you for all of the information that you had brought up in this very important intelligent video that you had put together and especially with the do’s and don’ts and this goes this or that way and the reasons why? A lot of videos tell or show you how to do this or that but never not to do this or that and the reasons why like your amazing video did and you even did some things the don’t way just to show your viewers what’s actually going to happen and not just because you said so but because you showed them by doing it the wrong way and they all can see that you’re correct and not lying to anyone about anything and that you obviously know what the heck you’re talking about and that you back up what you say 100% guaranteed! I would now watch your videos starting now today and I hope and pray that all of your videos are just like this because I could learn a lot from you Sir and start getting things done way faster than I do now and it will save me a lot of time to work on the vehicle instead of wasting a lot of my time daily looking at at least 25 videos that all just rush things or say do this or that and I usually end up bending stripping breaking messing up or not doing it right at all which is a big problem for me so I’m putting my trust in you from now on and please don’t mislead me or let me down like all of the others did and I had just subscribed to you and thank you for all of your vital information, the do’s, the don’ts, safety, faster and easier ways, and the different types of window regulators too and have a blessed day Sir…

    I've had to remove a window that's riveted to the regulator on older Fords. Had to use a punch and hammer to knock out the center then drill the rivet. Talk about a hold your breath moment! I used bolts, lock washers and a nut to put it back together.

    Do you ever have to bow the regulator to contour to the window…. Seem like the window is in a bind?? And struggle to close?

  • @JohnnyRawks
    @JohnnyRawks Před 2 lety +2

    Excellent! How does the window motor know when to stop turning when the glass tops out, or bottoms out? Does it just handle that by sensing pressure or something? Just wondering if there's anything to worry about concerning that aspect with the installation?

    • @pcno2832
      @pcno2832 Před 2 lety

      I think the non-automatic power windows just stop because the motor has only enough torque to move the glass in its tracks; I've always assumed that the motor would burn out if you leaned on the button for too long. The automatic ones go through a "learning" algorithm and stop when the current that it took the first time up or down is exceeded by more than a little. If you disconnect the battery, the auto-up or auto-down feature doesn't work until is "re-learns" the current limits. I assume that if you grease the tracks, the controller will eventually re-learn the current limits.

    • @ryans413
      @ryans413 Před 2 lety +1

      Once the glass bottoms out at the bottom or top the motor stops cause it dose not have enough power to move anymore. Why once your windows fully up or down take your finger off the button you’ll burn out the motor

  • @pcno2832
    @pcno2832 Před 2 lety +2

    Is it my imagination, or is it generally the case that the mechanical (scissor, etc.) ones last a lot longer than the cable ones? I remember greasing them, and fixing one with a nut and bolt, but I don't remember ever having to replace the scissor style regulators.

    I've been obsessing over my BMW's window regulators so thanks, I see they aren't some arcane branch of magic. They're pretty standard. I've replaced two of them entirely but the last I'm doing as nothing really wrong with it other than the cast metal part on the slide that has twisted enough to let go of the lug on the cable. I was just told to not try heating it or welding anything to it as the cast metal will just basically shatter. I'm wondering if there's any trick you'd advise so that I could get a bit more use out of the regulator?

  • @justinbabula6730
    @justinbabula6730 Před 2 lety

    This is a long shot question since this video is like a year old idk if I get a response. But what happens when you have constant power coming out of the plug for the regulator and when you use the switch you can hear ticking in the regulator when plugged in, I have replaced 3 regulators and they worked fine before then went into the truck. but as soon as you use the switch it likes blows the regulator and then it stops working like it should, but you still hear ticks when using the switch inside the regulator

    I was installing the glass in the new window regulator and over tightened the bolt and the glass shattered in my hands 🙌 🙉🙉🙉😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨
    Thankfully the glass is only $100 dollars and the owner is cool.
