    I've been playing since 2012 and there are still things in these beginner videos that I've never known/had forgotten about. So thanks for that but also for helping engage new players that would have otherwise been put off by the god awful tutorial/in game explanations.

    Earth domain's earthquake spell can be very handy - it's a persistant AoE, does a bit of damage & will work on a number of enemies eg. undead & constructs that greater command won't work on. It's also a physical effect, so spell resistance (posessed by certain enemies, basically an additional layer of defence that they can use to just "nope" out of certain spells without even having to roll a save) won't apply.
    Just to clarify about luck domain, there's a rule that a roll of a 1 is always an auto-fail regardless of how good your saves normally are - the level 14 ability takes that part away, but you still need to have high enough saving throws to actually make it.
    Apparantly the magic domain has a special hidden ability that means your spells will still work when in a beholder's antimagic aura, but haven't used it myself so can't personally verify this.

    Stumbled on your vids after rolling up a Death Domain Cleric for HC earlier this year and thinking: someone else has to have noticed how good this is :D
    Have you tried Aureon as Deity? The clickie ability boosts casting and turning.
    More on turning:
    Look out for Silver Flame items. With 14 base Cha, Death Domain, enhancements and good at-level gear, a 1st life character can reliably turn undead up to R2/3 in my experience. However R4+...uh, outshined by Sun Cleric SLAs for undead quests.
    Positive Energy burst isn't as powerful as it once was, but still can be quite nice to mix in, esp. if you can time healing party + finishing off a group of undead simultaneously.
    Turn undead also works through walls, as do some of the Turn based enhancements like Divine Vitality

    I know I am late to the party, but I just wanted to say great guide. Might I make a few suggestions?
    1. Slow down, you speak way too fast for this to help "A Beginner"
    2. I understand this is a beginner guide, but honestly it's more of a "Class beginner guide for those who have played DDO, but never played a Cleric guide." Using acronyms most new players don't understand combined with your talking speed, makes for a somewhat difficult guide to follow.
    Just my 2 cents. Thanks Strim for all you do for this community.

    Lack of DCs in the Sun domain is largely irrelevant - almost no light spells even allow a save.

  • @floatshake

    Deities:
    I favour Aureon for casters (Helm on Forgotten Realms)
    I haven't played melee Cleric for a while but Sov Host is good generalist choice
    Silvanus seems best for melee (haven't tested, Deep Gnome is my only iconic)
    Onatar good for melee, synergy with Dwarf
    Undying Court and Lord of Blades also useful for melee, race-specific
    Morninglord can be useful for survivalist/healbot build
    Blood of Vol is odd, but seems ok-ish for Vistani..? (haven't tested)
    Bugged/weak:
    Olladra's clickie only targets self, and isn't that good compared to Sov Host's.
    Silver Flame Exorcism is still extremely weak afaik
    Vulkoor's Avatar summons a CR 10 critter. Nice at level 6, useless at level 30.

    i made a healing nuke cleric its very good a healing and nuking undead but takes forever to melee something down
    also with my heavy focus in healing my cure spells aren't that bad for harming undead (granted i play with my uncle so i don't have to worrie about getting hurt sense he draws all the attention as a warforged paladin)
    but yea sense i am basically aiming to be a nuke healer aka even my basic cure heals quite alot XD
    not saying my build is good solo sense i am mostly good for just healing nothing else really unless its turn undead sense i nuke things (like the forge wraths things form the quest around lv 15 were there frozen but get unfrozen later in the quest) (i forget the quest name even thought i have done the areas quest a few times now) (o i have one level in wizard sense i use a iconic class for the higher lv start)

    I am so confused. I don't understand what all this means. In WoW you have spells you learn and then add them to your hotbar and you can just use them as often as you have mana left. Why would you need to add a spell to your character sheet, THEN to your hot bar, and Then ONLY if you have spell points and for only a few that you prepare? What are spell points? This is SO confusing and convoluted...

    • @Strimtom
      @Strimtom  Před rokem

      Yep! It's based off table top where you might have a spell list that is 100 spells long, but you can't use all of them. You need to prepare them, and you can only take a select few. This is how it works in DDO as well, where you need to choose which spells you think you will need before you go into an adventure.

      @LinkerAFK Před 2 lety +1

      Clerics usually do heavy armor, which doesn’t allow evasion. If you want to evade anyways, consider all ways to get it, eg EDs

    • @floatshake
      @floatshake Před 2 lety +1

      Viable yes, optimal no. Try it to see if it's fun for you. Main thing is that to use Evasion your character must be in light/no armor, and not be using a heavy/tower shield. But as a warpriest with high Str, you want to be swinging a weapon often right? Try to run with heavier builds to soak up the melee damage and focus on magehunting (like, get their attention and turn them away from the party as priority). Also you might get to rescue a few dead Rogues stuck in trap gauntlets, nice bonding experience.
      I have a few hybrid melee builds that swap from heavy armor to 'evasion mode' against caster bosses/for traprunning, but that extra versatility seems more useful on a build that has downtime while other classes are buffing. As a hybrid healer/melee/(caster?) I'd suggest simplifying your gearset as much as possible.

      If you are below level 5, you can change your domain feat! Talk to Lockania in the market place and do her quest for a free feat exchange token, and then do the exchange at Fred in house Jorasco.
      If you are above level 5, it's new character time.

    • @Strimtom
      @Strimtom  Před 2 lety +1

      For a melee cleric, you need war domain. The build I included is a spellcaster. DDO doesn't do hybrids that well and they take some practice, so I made focused builds.
      Also sadly changing domain is really hard since it requires multiple feats, meaning you need multiple feat changes, which can only be done with a reincarnation

    • @denewst01
      @denewst01 Před 2 lety +1

      Off the top of my head, Vistani follower of Vol is a good bet for this, though it can be tricky with multiple stat dependencies & works better for favoured soul who'll be able to inherently get WIS or CHA to hit & damage with daggers. WIS to hit & damage could come from the falconry tree but personally I'd go instead with a CHA based one using feydark illusionist since it's easier on the APs & will also give you some effective turn undead capabilities. You'd still need enough DEX for the 2wf feats & WIS for spell access (tomes will help a lot) but beyond that you'd basically be a melee character with heals & buffs. You'd probably still want to include some multiclassing too though, likely 2 fighter for the 2 bonus feats.

    • @Strimtom
      @Strimtom  Před rokem

      Arcane spell failure. Clerics cast divine spells so they don't have to worry about it.
      Arcane: Sorcerer, Wizard, Bard, Alchemist, Warlock
      Divine: Cleric, Druid, Ranger, Paladin, Favoured Soul
      Infusions: Artificer (basically it just means no spell failure either)

    @solonka123 Před 2 lety +2

    Greaet job Strimton, and while I think it definitely qualifies as a complete guide to the spellcasting cleric, I would really not call it beginner basics. It isn't that you don't cover basic explanations, it is that it is a massive massive information dump on the head of a beginner who will leave this as informed as confused. The biggest challenges of beginners are twofold: complete lack of knowledge, which your guide does beautifully, but also, and no less important, trying to get a handle on all the information and filter it down to the essentials. In this the video fails. Try to pare it down so the real beginner is able to watch it, and quickly feel comfortable with trying it out. They will never master it all after one video, so don't even try. My two cents, and respect for your great work.
