    All wheel steer is nice for blowing deep snow - no pushing the blower sideways because the tractor follows the blower. Nice set-up you have there!

    Finally found a video of snowblowing on a slope! Seems like every one I have seen is someone blowing a flat driveway with a 2 wheel drive. I've been trying to decide between a 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive for our driveway which runs 8 to 12 degree slope. I thought yours was a 2 wheel drive at first but then realized it was AWD. I have no use for a tractor other than snowblowing so I am hoping to find a used older one that I don't have 15K wrapped in just to use several times a year. I use a side by side with a plow and a Ariens walk behind for 130 yard long drive but I'm not getting any younger!

    While it looks fantastic, I would say something is not quite right. It wasn't throwing snow very far even it it's wet snow. If you had the rpm's wide open, then I would advise an impellor improvement by adding rubber to reduce gaps. It helped mine in wet and dry snow. It threw it farther and doesn't plug up.

    • @jonah327
      @jonah327  Před 3 lety +1

      It’s a little buddy portable propane heater. Had to disable the shut off relay on it because it would die on any incline. As for the 54”, I kinda wish I went with that instead so there would be some wiggle room between the tires and snow walls. It’s not a big deal unless the snow is real deep though. Plus, it was $1000 more dollars for 7”. I may make some extension wings to expand the mouth. Thanks again for watching. You got a nice tractor there as well!

    When you start the blower it appears that the impeller might have the shear bolt broken. The impeller actually stops and then catches and starts spinning.
    Was your impeller shear bolt broken and needing replacement?

    • @jonah327
      @jonah327  Před 3 lety

      No, it didn’t break. Perhaps it appears that way because I started the blower in low idle. Come to find out, for gas engines, the PTO should be engaged at full throttle. Luckily, haven’t broken a bolt yet! Thanks for watching.

      Félix Freire Thanks for watching! Vision is ok. The creases in the plastic distort clear view. Where you can see, but not crystal clear. • @jonah327
      @jonah327  Před 4 lety +1

      George Lehman The soft cab is ok. It keeps you out of the elements but it would be nice to have at least a glass windshield with a wiper. Also, the vents are on the rear corners and by the foot pedals to allow air to the intake, which whips that air right by your head. I put a portable propane heater in there to counter it and it helps. Just had to disable the safety switch on it when it leans on slopes. The dealer put the cab on for me the first time so when I re-installed it this year, the mounting brackets were still on and took me about 25 mins. I wanted the hard cab but that was another $7000 with heater and wiper. $550 for soft cab seemed ok then. I’m pretty sure it is 10’ from blower to suitcase weights. I’ll check again and update later if incorrect. Hope this was helpful. Let me know if you need any other info

      Depends on the area you live in. If you get a bunch of snow every year, I’d get the blower. The blower is a lot more expensive but much cleaner of a job when all done. The plow is good for snow 6” or less and for wet heavy snows.

    Jonah, are you happy with the throw distance on this unit? I'm looking at stepping up from a Kubota GR2120 to an X748 because I want a more powerful tractor. However, the blower on the Kubota can REALLY throw the snow.

    • @jonah327
      @jonah327  Před 4 lety +2

      Matt Hey Matt. I think it’s fine. I think throw distance can be an irrelevant measurement. As long as it gets it off the driveway, I’m good. Unless you’re clearing parking lots, I don’t see the need to have it thrown 30’ in the air In some cases in tight areas, such as homes close to each other, you wouldn’t want it discharging onto your neighbors property/driveway. I’ve only used it on real wet slushy type snow, so far, it’s been great. Thanks for watching.

      I agree with Matt. The JD blower underperforms. I have identical blower on a 455 and even though throwing distance as you say does not matter, it does. Instead of a high berm let's say at end of driveway because blower can't throw further, the Kubota throws the snow further which is a huge difference. How do I know....neighbour has a Bx with front mounted blower and there is no comparison. I blow snow twice it seems when in fact the blower should be pitching it off my driveway. The X739/cab is a great unit, too bad the blower isn't quite like it should be for the price. Just my opinion.

      @@briancampbell5944 I had an LA110 with a John Deere blower and it struggled with wet snow and the plow pile and deeper powdered snow. I upgraded to a John Deere X310 and I went with a Berco blower one step down from the Berco Northeaster. It threw the snow easily 2-3 times as far as the Deere blower and it handled wet snow easily. In hindsight I wish I had gotten the Northeaster because it was heavier duty. I blew out 4 driveways every time I fired it up with that Berco blower for 4 years and it never let me down! This year I upgraded to a Kubota BX2380 with a 55” Commercial blower the heated cab is on order.

      Now your talking. That will be a great set up. I wonder why JD can't design a good blower. The green coloured front blower you can buy for the 1 series, Frontier, is the blower to buy not the yellow cookie cutter ones. It is expensive for sure but these units will last 25 years if looked after. I know you will love your new Bx. Let us know how she makes out.

    Can you tell me whether the hydraulics lift and lower your thrower evenly. I am in middle of purchase of similar set=up and the left edge lifts 1-1/4 inch higher than right edge at any position in the lift. This frustrates me and does not seem right. I want to be able to hold level from ground a few inches above gravel driveway. I would appreciate a comment ASAP. Thanks.

      @@jonah327 Thanks for getting back to me. My dealer put in a “technical case” bulletin and John Deere replied that the throwers lift unevenly and are designed to be operated when on the ground. I find this troubling when I see so many You Tubes like yours where the thrower is being raised and lowered evenly. I understand that the thrower is designed to be operated when on the ground. However, prior to this tractor I owned a 425 series tractor and routinely lifted the thrower slightly on my gravel driveway to avoid rock and lowered it in other places and on paved surfaces. Disappointing. Not sure I have any further recourse though. They tried putting on another hitch and got the same results.

      The end of my driveway is the worst but it handles it no problem. I take the tractor out to do snow removal and there is this one driveway that must be 30-35 degrees, and it does well going straight up and down. There is a lot of power in this machine to handle most things you got on a typical property. The 4wheel drive, tires, and weight work really well in these conditions.

      I have a 2017 X739 with 54" Snow Blower & the same Soft Cab (also 54" Quick Connect Mower & 54" Blade), and an slightly older Ariens 28" Professional Hydro-static Snow Blower (420cc I think) with hand warmers.
      The JD Snow Blower works just as well as the Ariens in slushy wet snow, and even better in "dry" snow, thus the need for the Soft Cab to avoid ending up looking like a snow man after clearing the Driveway and our Parking area.
