    Fun DE7 trick: in echo mode, put the repeats around 3 o’ clock and back the mix down under 9 o’ clock til you find the best spot. Have fun playing over the giant wash that blooms under your guitar.

  • @lucamoqi
    @lucamoqi Před 5 lety +43

    The DE7 is by far one of the best and most underrated delay pedals ever. I love mine, only wish it had tap tempo.

  • @_wanderingrocks_
    @_wanderingrocks_ Před 5 lety +15

    There's a resistor wired across the wipers of the delay time pot on the DOD FX96. Clip it off and you've got access to much longer delay times. Easy to reverse if all you want is slapback though. It'll also run on 12v for even longer, slightly mangled repeats.

    That glitch on the DD-5 portion was excellent and completely unexpected. Glad to see you with Reverb doing your thing, Andy!

  • @coldwar1977
    @coldwar1977 Před 5 lety +60

    The special thing about the echo mode of the DE7 is, that the digitally repeated signal must pass an analog circuit with a JRC 4580, clipping diodes and analog filters. Hence the "warmth" in its repeats. I'll never part with mine!

      Easily the best delay pedal just due to the echo mode. I've had mine since 2004 and was one of the first pedals I ever bought along with the PM7.

      Early versions of the DE7 have a red LED diode as part of the circuit. It lights up inside the pedal and you can see it through the gap in the middle knob. I've owned 6 of them and it's only in the units built from 1999-2000.

      No doubt. I remember when the DD-5 came out, because I was graduating high school that year!
      My local shop’s only new pedals were Boss, but it would be the entire line. I found other stuff in the used section, or pawn shops.

    The Headrush was definitely underrated. I still have one. Akai's stuff in general from this time was overlooked - they had a lot of creative pedals. Their Shred-O-Matic distortion pedal also had tons of options and some intense high-gain tones. Running a baritone guitar through it just sounds savage.

    I just sold my Boss DD-6 this week, which was the second pedal I ever got and the one that really got me into FX as a creative tool. The day I realised you could crank the feedback and get it to oscillate was a life changing day.

      @Phil_Trujeque Před 5 lety +1

      I picked up my E1, probably around 2003 or so --- I found it in a pawn shop for about forty bucks. Being a fan of the Pink Floyd sound, I couldn't wait to take it to the studio to try out the Quadraphonic setup... man... that's a trip... I totally forgot about that!
      Oh man, I also just remembered, the Headrush E1 can also get a killer Hank Marvin echo!

    • @cactustactics
      @cactustactics Před 5 lety +1

      It's a shame Andy didn't really play around with it - you can do some neat stuff with the knob that moves the "tape heads" and gives you irregular delays, and the looper can let you build up these huge soundscapes by always adding on top of the loop
      That speed picking fingerstyle tho

    • @natemendsen1629
      @natemendsen1629 Před 5 lety +1

      I have an early 78. My guess is his is pre 80s because of the binding on the horns has that widening thing going on where it meets the neck and isn't uniform like the 80s versions seem.That and it doesn't look thick enough.They thickened the whole body something like a quarter of an inch in the early 80s and made an already heavy guitar something you could take down a wildebeest with

    • @hendrikwinkels6881
      @hendrikwinkels6881 Před 5 lety

    • @jamessouleyrette3370
      @jamessouleyrette3370 Před 5 lety +1

      It's probably late 1976 to 1979. They changed their logo in 1977 but late 1976 models have that logo. But in the 80s they changed the way their models were named. The Artist goes to being named ARxxx with different numbers.

    • @natemendsen1629
      @natemendsen1629 Před 5 lety

      Yeah, I wasn't sure. I forget about them because mine has just bone.Wonder when they started with those nuts and what models? I also don't have either older or newer tail piece .I think this stuff was modded after the fact because the big thing that is missing is the the brass block .Someone form fitted a wood piece to hold the bridge .They did a pro job but I can't for the life of me figure out why they did it at all.

    Andy I dig the fingerstyle but can you please switch it up to a pick so that we can hear how both the brighter attack of a pick will work with the gear to go along with your normal fingerstyle playing? Not saying stop the fingerstyle altogether. But it is a disservice to those that use picks using only fingers. Your meat, and fingernails do not come close to that if a real pick sound wise to the attack of a pick. That way those of us who watch this can get a more accurate representation of the gear you demonstrate.
