  • After hearing well over three months ago that SL061 was now being permanently used over in Strathfield Council for the collection of green waste, it was once again time to head down to the small council of Strathfield and see SL061 on the job. About a month ago on a cloudy Tuesday morning I decided to head out to Strathfield and after checking a few streets I heard the sound of a GenV in the background, five minutes later I tracked the truck down on foot and found the driver just polishing off the last bin for the second load and changing to the right side for the short trip to Chullora. After a quick chat to the driver before he headed off, he told me he would be back in 20min to start the third and last load of the day. This was good news as it meant there was plenty of time to get some good shots of SL061 collecting green waste.
In this video we see SL061 (ex Ryde GenV) collecting green waste in the quiet streets of Strathfield Council in the Tuesday collection zone on its third and last load for the day on a not so heavy winter morning. All green waste collected from Strathfield Council is sent straight down the Hume Hwy to the Chullora Resource Recovery Centre with the exception of the last load of the day which is sent to Kemp's Creek. Most of you may already know but Suez (SITA) Environment won back the contract for the collection of green waste from Strathfield Council for another five years. There was news originally around the yard that there was a new truck on order for the new Strathfield Greens collection contract but I have heard recently from the leading hand in Ryde, that apparently Sita is going to continue to use SL061 for the new contract due to its relatively young age, pretty decent condition and it is only a five year contract. I personally am happy with Sita's decision to continue to use SL061 as the driver likes the truck and I can bet he would hate all the safety features attached to new trucks these days. All SL061 needs now is a fresh paint job and Strathfield Council signage, maybe the council likes the fully green truck as it corresponds with the green lid bins it collects.
In the cooler winter months you can usually see the sole truck for Strathfield completing the run in 2-3 loads each day but in the spring-summer months it can be an easy 4 loads of green waste with the exception of Mondays. When things are heavy in Strathfield a second "extra" truck is sent out to cut out a load of vegetation. Every fortnight each Monday-Thursday SL061 can be seen handling the green waste throughout the suburbs of Strathfield Council. On the alternating week SL061 is also used in Strathfield completing a load of organic "food" waste which is placed in the green bins alongside the green waste, servicing a selected amount of properties that have been chosen to take part in the "food waste trial", which is collected weekly in green biodegradable bags. I wouldn't be surprised if Strathfield Council in the near future decides to introduce an Organic service to all households, which will see green waste and food placed in the green lidded bin, collected weekly. As you will see in the video this driver likes to keep things neat by closing all the lids and placing the bins back in the original location, definitely the neatest bloke in the yard and it is the same driver that starred in my "Strathfield Greens - SL05" video. Thanks has to go to the quality and friendly operator behind the wheel and I hope he enjoys the video. Also thanks to you guys for watching and remember to like, fav and sub.

It's a shame there aren't more drivers out there like this bloke. His service quality is fantastic - definitely the kind of driver I'd want to employ as a boss. I saw him tap a couple of branches with the bins, can't spot all the clearance issues! hehe Tripod set-ups make a good video, job well done. The green truck definitely suits the job, a fresh coat of paint and a bit of a refurb would make it perfect.

+MitchellM15 You said it Mitch his service quality is fantastic keeps it neat all the time, probably part of the reason why Strathfield Council decided to sign back up with Sita for the greens contract. Yeah he clipped a few ey Mitch, I thought you would spot that :P Thanks I prefer to use the tripod now for all my shots as it makes a better video :) With a fresh coat of green paint to cover up the welds, patches and marks from the old ryde signage, also add some Strathfield and Sita signage and theres your new refurbished "Strathfield Greens" truck !

Awesome stuff Alex. Looks a little different now. Shame the driver was going slow on the arm because we all know how speedy this truck is.

+MelbourneGarbo® Thanks Caiden, it sure does with no ryde signage. Yeah this driver likes to close the lids and keep it neat all the time, which is good as it keeps the council and Sita happy. It sill goes quick as he showed me a couple of times but still have got plenty of footage of 061 back in the old ryde days still to upload :)
