Yeah, I think it's worth while to sit down and construct the gimmick for this trick. After watching and thinking on it for a long time, (because my arts and craft skills stinks and after I understood the mechanics of the whole thing), I began to appreciate the idea of taking the time to construct the gimmick. It really looks magical and the illusion is perfect. Then I can lead into another trick using the card. This gives me a perfect excuse to pocket the deck, (along with the gimmick), leaving me clean. I later use the deck (without the gimmick [it stays in pocket]). So, yeah, Jay. It will be worth making the Holy Molly (Moly) gimmick and then performing the trick. There are many follow up ideas that can be used behind this trick making it ideally practical. Thanks Andy and Jay.

I love gimmicked card tricks and this one's great! When I have the time (and I'm not being too lazy) they're always worth while. Can't wait to try this one, thanks mismag, thanks Andy.
Tip for creating the two holes in cards, just cut them both at the same time with the Exacto Blade, once done, just take the sand paper through the *kept* card and rub it in a cicular motion 3 times around the hole. I found this worked best.
No you haven't lost me yet! You are FUNNY! I watched that trick 20 times because I am a well-versed card magician. I saw the double lift but I thought the Queen a round piece (hole) that would fall OUT...but it never did. This is truly diabolical, astonishingly diabolical! Thanks, nice explanation.

I would recommend Jay Sankey's Tera Unfirma. It is a very similar effect but with a much simpler method and gimmick. On a side note, I don't understand why people are against gimmicks and/or ruining cards. The greatest card trick of all time, the Ambitious Card, requires that you exhaust a card every time its performed (if you do it right and have them sign the selection). Ive always had fun going to my gimmicks lab. I think its well worth putting preparation into magic outside of just sleights.

Thanks for the video. There is an easier way to cut a hole not using a knife. I'm a model maker, we use a metal tube of the correct diameter the file one end till it is sharp (grind off the inside). You then just rest the tube on the card and turn. Voir La your disc is 'SPOT' on and it's edge is clean.

At my local magic shop, they have tons of misc. red and blue bicycle cards from old decks just lying around, and they're cool with you taking some if you need them. They also sell blanks/doublebacks/etc for 30¢ each
Check out if you have a magic shop nearby, they'll probably have something similar

I think it's an incredibly powerful effect. Most "hole illusions" involving cards require you to do a spin change or something after the hole is stuck on. In this version, you stick the whole on, and then second later it turns into a real hole with no switches!

@TheZakgenius Jay Sankey does one with only a card gimmick that takes a minute to make, though this one looks awesome aswell

Gimmicked tricks actually have some fringe benefits: When you ruin one or two cards in a deck for a gimmicked effect, you can use all of the others for different gimmicked effects or tricks that require duplicates. It's well worth the cost of a deck of cards.
i love this trick and i wanna do it, but it takes too much effort so i guess im not gonna... but this was an awesome trick, i had wtf moment when i saw it :-)

I know this is an old video, but I think you can do it a little easier. if you're doing a triple lift anyway, you dont need to put the bit from the queen on the doublebacked card. you can just stick that "hole" from the queen onto the queen flip it, leave it in the pack and show the queen with the hole.

i dont like gimmicks a lot, but i like to see how its done so if i ever get another deck, i can do it :)
Mismag, could you put the link to watch the performance from the start of the videos? :P Having to watch the other video and then watching the start of your video again (or skipping to where we stopped) is quite annoying, so I usually end up not watching the performance at all :P

i do a version of this, taken from a jay sankey dvd, prefer his method/gimmick, the perfect circle screems gaff card, but still a nice version.

I'm definately not gonna perform this one myself, but it's a nice effect. 5 hours of work is a lot, even for an amazing trick. I don't feel like that's worth it. There are other hole in a card tricks that will not take that long to prepare.
I like how the performance video says "Beginners Card Trick", I don't think a beginner would like the idea of doing 5 hours of preparation for one trick that ruins some cards.

It's not that I'm going to do that. No I'm not making holes in my cards, but I still think it's fun watching and learning how to do it.
