The Mars Industries Airwolf 1:18 vehicle project has crashed for both the original Kickstarter backers and those like Michael that pre-ordered after the fact. What does this mean? Why is there a blame game going on beyond the company itself?
On 9/29/21 I ordered two repro Skystriker missiles from MARS Industries. They were never received. He promised a refund that was never sent either. That experience kept me from supporting the Airwolf campaign. And I badly wanted to do so.
When he said in the groups that he wasn't able to run his 3d printers because the cold Florida temps I called bs and so glad I did.

When I heard news of the “conclusion” of this project thru the 3POA platform,
I instantly thought about Retro Blasting,
because I had watched your video talking about the prototype and subsequent live stream with the owner/creator of the project.
I also sensed a video to explain yourself was forthcoming.
And well explained you did.
I would have done the exact same thing if I was in your shoes.
The problem solely lies with the creator, not the people who vouch for them unless the initial vouch had any stakes personally attached to it, which I didn’t see with RetroBlasting’s video and subsequent live stream.
But I agree with you that one shouldn’t vouch for a prototype of a product not yet out in the market.
Talking about said prototype is a totally separate matter.

From what I remember, the guy sent you a prototype, asked you to look at it, you said you thought it was cool. End of story. I don’t remember you holding a gun to anyone’s head, forcing them to back a kickstarter. The angry folks can pound sand whilst yelling at clouds
At this point, I almost feel like talking about independent creators, and especially crowd funds and pre-orders, needs to start coming with the same kind of disclaimer that ME, VR, and WDWPro do when they talk about stock prices in relationship to entertainment companies: "We are not giving financial advice; please seek the advice of your own personal financial consultant." So, if I do talk about crowdfunds, I will disclaim, "I am buying into this because I want it, but I am NOT advocating that you do. Crowdfunds come with a degree of risk and I will not be responsible for anyone but myself potentially losing their investment. Caveat emptor."
That being said, I got in on a crowdfund for an independent maker who 3D printed the entire Star Wars Cantina because I got tired of waiting for one from Hasbro that may never come. Well, it leaked this week that Hasbro's next HazLab will be such a Cantina, though apparently in the style of the freeze chamber and ship hallways where you need TWO to make one complete set. I'm very satisfied with that independent creator and will most like not bother with the HazLab.

@@opticracer3927 To be fair, any information we have about the pending Hasbro Cantina is speculation based one screen-grab showing a bar, entryway, and alcoves on just one side, but TWO tiers; a regular and a deluxe. But, given the history of the Tantive IV and the Freeze Chamber, it seems like a fair bet.
So I’m going to try to say this delicately because I’m not trying to say anything about Retroblasting or Micheal. I saw Micheal’s video a month or so after the Kickstarter ended and saw Canadian Warriors video a few weeks later but could tell his was way before RB’s. I was upset at the tone because I actually wanted to back. I admit I’m now glad I never got the opportunity. But even if I had the chance, today I would be mad but NOT at RB or even Canadian Warrior, I’d be mad at the one who took my money cause the CZcamsrs had no way of knowing this guy was going to pull this. I hope backers get a full refund but it is not the fault of the messengers just trying to share information.

Airwolf would be a perfect project for Playmobil, given their recent history of taking on 80s nostalgia licenses and long history of quality toys. Sorry for everyone who lost money on this kickstarter; I think (I hope) this situation is an exception and not the standard for custom creators. Thanks RB for your integrity.

Michael, this is one of youe best videos. You had the decency and courage to record this video and tell it like it is. No, you are NOT to be blamed because it is not your fault that this Airwolf kickstarter went down, that blame squarely goes to Conrad / Mars Industries. The problem is, the clients have been let down and they need a scapegoat, it doesn't make it right but it is understandable.
Many years ago, I recalled reading an article about a store that sold video games at a town in which the locals began to complain when the store released a violent video game featuring a poster with a big gun front and center, and yet these same people never raised hell about the local gun store that was located down the street. Talk about double standards! LOL! Hence, it's always easier to blame the poster than attacking the source.
I feel for you and everybody who have a financial stake in this and if Conrad / Mars Industries has any remaining bit of integrity left, they should refund to all of their clients, and consider this case closed. So far, that has not happened, therefore, I respectfully disagree with you on your comment on Conrad / Mars Industries having some honor when they clearly do not. Hopefully, this will be rectified soon. 🙏
That Air Wolf actually bled. That Air Wolf was as sloppy as the REAL Jan Micheal Vincent. The only thing close to decent on that campaign was the box, and even that kinda fell short.

Retroblasting did nothing wrong, and some other business fails is not your fault. Who are these people blaming you? They should come to The Bronx and understand the meaning of getting blame for something they never did. We support you and know you did nothing wrong.
Kickstarter by nature is a dice roll just like any other business venture. It's not your fault or any CZcamsrs fault for any business fallings. Ever since Kickstarter came about fans have had a hard time swallowing the fact that this is what it means to be an investor in the corporate world sometimes it works out & most times it doesn't. 😐
This was different. This particular guy played everyone from the beginning. His intention was ONLY to produce enough merchandise to fool people and stall for as much time as possible. Then disappear.
When a CZcams channel calls out Hasbro's quality issues, HasBROS blame the CZcams Channel.
When a CZcams Channel reports on a toy Kickstarter and that Kickstarter fails, "fans" blame the CZcams Channel
It's almost like there is a "force" out there that wants anything that threatens the BIG TOY COMPANY'S stock price to be discredited.
I wouldn't put it past some of these companies to hire people to troll these CZcams channels.
Look up who owns Hasbro: Vanguard and Blackrock.
Look up who owns Mattel: Vanguard and Blackrock.
Who are Vanguard and Blackrock: Investment firms that own a majority of the Fortune 500 companies.
Kinda puts the Mattel/Hasbro cross sell of Barbie Monopoly and Hot Wheels Transformers in a different light, doesn't it.
These companies are NOT YOUR FRIENDS! They will sell you out for whatever they want.
I don't know if the Kickstarter campaign was updated or there is some other kind of explanation for why it says this but it the funding period for the Kickstarter was between Aug 28 2021 - Sep 27 2021 and checking the upload date your video went up on the Sep 24 2021. I personally don't think you owe people anything if it wasn't a paid promotion but according to the dates it suggests you uploaded before the kickstarter ended.
This was not a paid promotion. As he showed, he paid $600 to help fund this thing. And the Kickstarted was announced to have funded on September 8, 2021.

I'm kind of new to your channel, given the number of years you've been up, and I heard you mention the Airwolf project. You also mentioned Stan Solo, Ramen Toys, The Fans Strike Back, Mattey Collector, Haslab, and Mattel Creations. All exist in some type of crowdfunding. I decided to back Stan Solo, and not the other's still going. I'm a grown ass man, and made the best educated decision, based on risk versus cost. I've given Stan Solo over $600 so far. Some were pre-orders. Any person attempting to blame this channel is looking for a cope, and they need to focus on the real villian. Not you.
I wonder how much of this fuss is due to the many unethical CZcamsrs who do not disclose any financial arrangement they have with a person or company they are discussing/promoting on their channel. Some viewers wrongly assume that you are another one of those hacks instead of being one of the few unbiased and ethical people on the platform.
Your video came out on 24 September 2021, and the Kickstarter ended on 27 September 2021. In the video, you even mentioned it was still running.
Think the lessons learned here are a reminder that backing a kickstarter is not a guarantee of delivery, and everyone should be far more cautious, even when the "rewards" look so good.
The point I was making is that I wasn't on the front end of the Kickstarter funding period. There also wasn't a lot of time left on it, which is all I truly remember.
The kickstarter page declared it funded on *SEPTEMBER 8, 2021.*

I am glad that you did the video on the Mars Airwolf. It was so cool and would have been cool to get and put on the Flag. I would have like to get it I just couldn't afford it. Maybe someday someone will try and get this made hopefully.

Kind of a shame you can’t safely talk about potential projects without inventory but it makes total sense.

The biggest problem with kickstarter is that people do not take the 3 minutes to realize that when they pledge to something, they might as well wave their money goodbye, they make a gamble on a product and there are no refunds.

This is really sad news. Even though I did not back the kickstarter or pre-ordered it, a 1:18 Airwolf with figures would have a dream toy for me as a kid growing up in the 80s. I love Airwolf and I would have begged for something like this for Christmas. Just a damn shame it couldn't get made and I hope RB can do a proper autopsy of what went wrong as more information comes out.

How you are able to tolerate the abuse is beyond me.. I have nothing but the greatest of respect and appreciation for Retroblasting, and for your integrity. The Aoshima 1/48 die cast version wasn't bad. I'd love to see a company with proven engineering skill, such as Sentinel or one of the companies producing 3rd party Transformers, try their hand at this.

It works out better when the big companies do their crowd funding projects. Less risk and the reward is pretty great. I have the barge and the HISS tank. Both superb projects
I would have supported this had I known about it since me and my Dad love Airwolf and Jan Michael Vincent piloting it. I would have loved to see Dad's joy holding it if he was still alive today and if the project was successful.

I recall this project when I had been asked to join it to be the figure, Painter. the figures I painted I still wish were the finished ones. . I am saddened about the loss of the project, I never saw any payment for what I was able to do, other than produce the mockup painted 3d Solid figures of Kait, Hawk and Dom and the lizard along with Archangel. I do not blame you man; you did nothing but review a then amazing opportunity that we never received. I was proud of the figure paints, lizard creation and all the work I did do on my end. Mad that I got shafted too and not kept on the project. Now to learn last few days of you getting roasted for the failure of Mars Industries. Never should have come to your door. I got some blaming me too, I had nothing to do with the company turn belly under or over. I was merely a pawn in the play. I can't say much because I barely knew much. Thank you for addressing this issue. I like you also out 600.00 and I am still without a shirt or my patch, figures or finished bird.

Great vid. Not sure why, but this is a human nature thing for many. If I order a pizza and it's late to arrive or the toppings are wrong, suddenly everyone looks to me as the responsible person as if I made the pizza. All I did was place the order!
Manufacturing is hard. Just to drive it home, I'll take one aspect: its profit margins. It's not like digital media, where the disk costs pennies to make.
No; I manufactured a toy invention that I patented, not too dissimilar to many kickstarters financially, and the manufacturing of everything adds up huge.
The profit margin per sale of each product was pennies. Companies have to sell thousands to earn a worthy business.
(The next time you see a big, big company (not this kickstarter venture) ...virtue signaling or violating safety laws or covering up something illegal or acting maliciously, ...perhaps resist from thinking it's pure greed or evil, but evil and greed mixed in with carelessness and desperation!)
I have another small channel i started showing 2024 Hot Wheels and Matchbox .. because i talked about and showed some upcoming stire exclusives, i had a dude who went off on me saying..."I watched your video and went to 6 stores, i couldn't find any of these!!!" Just like you said, im in no way apart of Mattel and only talked about info Mattek themselves released. This is why I didn't back the Roboskull mkII. While it looks like they're still making progress, it's been just as long as the Airwolf. I'm still interested, but I won't be ordering until I see a good review of a finished version. For as much shit as Hasbro gets over Haslab, I feel much more comfortable preordering with them.

1) All Colorado sports teams could send the ball in the correct direction.

If any startup toy manufacturer wants to throw a temper tantrum and blame you, it’s not you! I used to do business consulting, and while you don’t have to be a genius to make a successful business, you can’t get away with a horrible cash conversion cycle, too shallow a GMROI, or too high a debt to equity ratio just by Robert Preston swagger.
I just had to rain on someone else’s small business dreams last week (you can’t open a restaurant with no menu and no money).
There seems to have been an update today (15th May)... "A manufacture has stepped up and offered to keep the project alive and fulfill all orders..."
I have no skin in this game, but this Airwolf did look cool, so hopefully something can be saved.
I think I've finally figured out why I love this channel and truly enjoy most of what Michael has to say. It's not that complex... I take toys seriously, and most of my family and friends give me shit for it. I think that the world in general basically looks down its nose at us, the adult toy collectors. let's get some facts straight, it's a kickstarter, they come with some risks. The dude tried a very ambitious project, very very ambitious! He delivered batches of DYI 3d print kits, and got so many harassment it burned him down... Am I sad I lost money on this and didn't get the project, yes. Am I mad at the dude? So and so, but in the end it was a risk I took, and this guy ain't a scammer, he tried!!!!

Its too bad this project folded, I saw a prototype in a toys show and it was impressive.
Lot of people promising more than they can deliver. I work in publishing and we get tons of that from people who’s going to write the next big thing, but they never deliver.
I don't see how anyone with even half a brain could blame anyone but instigator if they take a gamble on a kick starter product and it doesn't pan out. Not your fault at all.
So, a product successfully crowdfunded, isn't able to deliver after several years, and people are blaming a CZcams channel that had nothing to do with the project outside of being a backer. This is the dumbest timeline.
I will never blame you for the failure of these start up toy companies. I like and enjoy your reviews of these toy that I am happy people are making that Hasbro has not made or will not make anymore. Companies start and fail all of the time, be the duck and let it be the water rolling off your back. Economics of business in not easy to navigate during this time in particular. Bindenomics has killed many dreams and companies from starting up this year I trust your judgement and keep going, please. Keep up the good work.

I'm just about finished my old AMT Airwolf. It was missing most of the clear parts, I gave up on it for years. Made a few molds, formed some parts and it's going to be OK. Guess I should feel good about it after hearing the crap you've been through.

What terrible news I hate when a kickstarter fails. I lost money on the paladium games robotech kickstarter I didn't get all of the stuff I ordered. I was really wanting to back this project and I almost did back it. I am glad that I did not back it. If I had backed it and lost money I would not blame Retroblasting because the blame is on M.A.R.S. industries. It is a shame what happened with this failed kickstarter. Retroblasting does not need to be put to the fire for this. Lastly, I would like to say that Kickstarter is always a risk!

I was waiting for this video, I backed this project as well at the DIY level and was planning a fully lit model build video, I do not blame you at all, I am in the same boat, it is sad but this happens with Kickstarters from time to time, Conrad just got in over his head and things happen.

kickstarters should have an insurance option, were if you buy the insurance you are guaranteed half your investment back if the the starter fails
Kick starter doesn't care about projects or the backers once they get their money. By their own policy creators are supposed to keep backers updated, but they don't hold them accountable.
Looking at the comments on the kickstarter, that Michael Hernandez seems a bit crazy is he one of the guys going after you?

I’m sorry to see this happening to you once again; where your enthusiasm for something you’re excited for is held against you as though some sort of promise.
I watch and enjoy your channel regularly and at times both take or ignore your advice on various items. The idea of me blaming one of the sources I use for my personal decision leaves me incredulous. Toy collecting today, whether vintage or current, whether corporate or artisan- is expensive. If I’m spending a significant amount of money on a collecting purchase, my choices are my own regardless of whom I’ve looked to in my research.
I didn’t buy the Carbotix Voltron even though you purchased and reviewed it beautifully. One of my biggest regrets.
I did purchase a Super 7 thunder tank after your negative Silver hawks experience, turned out well for me.
Either way I made the decision based on my research and my personal want. I value your opinion when making these choices, however, the decisions are my own.
I appreciate your willingness to put your opinions out there in the most transparent and honest way I’ve seen on CZcams. I hope people with this misguided concept of blame do not discourage you and Melinda from continuing your genuine, interesting and wonderful content in the formats you most prefer and enjoy.

I am disappointed that I will never own this project. I was really looking forward to it. I am one of those people that are out money on this project. You win some you lose some. Thank you for the update on this project. I really wish things were different.
Gotta say, I've watched, and enjoyed your content almost since the beginning, and still watch. I definitely disagree with things you've said and done in the past, but I still respect you as a person with a right to your opinion and such. No one is perfect. A big section of that group needs to stop their obsessive hate for you. Yeah, you made a video talking about a product you were excited for, at the time. That's nothing to apologize for. If you had said "Everyone, go back this now, and go get it", then maybe I'd see their point. But I've watched you long enough to know that's not something you do. They're just trying to find crap to cover you in even more.
When I back campaigns for comics I go in knowing that there’s a possibility I may never get my product for whatever reason.

I don't understand why you're getting the heat for this. You've never come off as a "hype man" even for things you're passionate about, compared to the glut of influencers out there who have the taste of corporate boots and dingleberry wine on their breaths.
Would I love an Airwolf for the collection? Of course, but am I going to attack CZcamsrs for one? Not on your life. I'm willing to bet PlayMobil can get the license and add Airwolf to their 80s vehicle collection
