- Xtra Premium, Speed, Power, V-power, 93 Octane, Speed 97, you have probably heard all these names on your daily trips to the petrol pump. Some of you might pick normal petrol over these because you feel that these are just fancy names for the same and have no real benefits. The rest of you probably regularly use these because you believe that there are positive effects arising from the use of premium fuels that justify their cost. First, we need to understand the problem for why you need fuels with different octane ratings. Inside the engine, it is always desirable that the fuel burns uniformly and the flame spreads evenly from the top to the bottom. In high-performance engines, the operating conditions are much more extreme compared to a normal engine.
They deal with higher temperatures, higher pressure and higher RPM to name a few. So in such conditions, the case may often occur where the fuel prematurely ignites even before the flame reaches there due to the operating conditions inside. This reaction is often very violent and causes a series of mini explosions inside the combustion chamber. These explosions are heard as knocking or pinging sounds from the engine and hence this process is termed as engine knock.
A prolonged occurrence of engine knocking can cause serious damage to the engine’s inner parts. The piston head, valve head and cylinder sleeve are directly exposed to these explosions and will experience the most damage due to knocking. Indirect damage can reach parts like the crankshaft and manifolds as well.
An important misconception that a lot of people have is that the Octane Number denotes the percentage of octane molecules present in a particular fuel. This is wrong as the Octane Number is only a representative figure of the fuel’s tendency to burn without detonating. As the Octane Number increases, the detonating tendency of the fuel decreases.
The Octane Number affects the activation energy of the fuel. In simple terms, an increase in the octane number will make the fuel require a higher amount of energy before it starts to combust. So even if the side conditions like pressure, temperature are higher, the increased activation energy will make sure that the fuel will only catch fire because of the spark plug and not because of the surrounding conditions.

Power petrol me mere 110cc bike ka mileage 5-10kmpl kam ho jata hai..Aur maine padha hai ki is baat ka koi proof nahi hai ki premium petrol se koi bhi fayda hota hai, balki nuksan hone ke kuchh proofs jarur mile hain(jaise ek khas chemical ka jama hona)

It doesn't depend upon cc . It depends upon emission norms like my unicorn 150 bs4 manual says minimum octane 91 and my jawa bs6 manual says octane 93 and our activa 125 bs3 manual says min octane 87. So always refer to owners manual for correct fuel octane rating for ir bike

Please don't use normal petrol on that bike. This video is highly misleading. Cylinder volume has nothing to do with engine compression. Please follow the user manual. It has a 12:1 engine compression ratio and unleaded petrol is recommended. Rest is your choice.
Fyi : any engine above 9.3:1 compression ratio should use high octane petrol.

From last 2 times i used power petrol for my fzs fi V3 .after that I really impressed with the mileage...normal petrol it gives me 54 kmpl after power i get 60 kmpl

Power, speed, extra premium and power V all are 91 octane only. They have only added additives and detergents to clean the engine internals. High octane fuel are diffent. Namely Speed97 and HP 99octane.

I have used Power from Hp for the last 2 times in my Apache 160 4V, and the difference in performance and engine response is very noticeable. Go for high octane petrol.

I have tried both Power as well as normal petrol in my 125 cc bike. I always use power now since the engine feels more refined and powerful with power petrol and I also get a slightly better fuel economy using power (which I really don't care about).

Sir it doesn't depends on cc ,it all depends on compression ratio, higher compression ratio engines need higher octane fuel(having more quantity of isooctanes which have higher autoignition pressure ) to avoid knock/preignition .

Premium petrol provides more smooth instantly.. Normal petrol is not very preferable for new bikes because it degrade the efficiency, therefore it affects the combustion chambers and there is a formation of impurity, carbons, and there is more consumption of oil too...There I prefer use Octane 93> oil for better performance,speed and mileage and for long lasting engines. Well for scooty normal oil is better I must say N torq 125, 150 cc....

I used extra premium oil in glamour fi 125 cc and I fill less vibration and less milage but power out put is increased in a high rate 👍🏿. So I fell I have losses 10 km per litre milage 🙄

Don't worry my friend, normal petrol that comes with ethanol blend in general u can use it without any hesitation. But it will damage your engine slightly slightly.
so you should go for premium petrols. even if your bike's engine doesn't made it the additives in petrol will take care of your engine.
And premium petrols have higher octane numbers that will give u slightly better mileage.
Indian Oil XP95 Is The Best
Indian Oil XP95 or XP100
XP100 is but costly, i remember when I used to refill that last year it was ₹175 a Litre in Pune

Petrol . High speed petrol has additives for better performance for ‘higher CC bikes’’. In 150,110cc scooty or bike it will hardly show any difference. High octane fuels have additives such as friction busters that might not suit your bike, plus a higher octane rating means that more heat is being produced in the engine that is not good for your bike's engine. So if you have a higher cc bike 200cc and above, then it will be beneficial for uh. Paying extra 10-15₹ per litre for a commuter bike doesn’t make any sense…stop wasting your money. 🙏🏻

Petrol without any unwanted substances/ ethanol is recommended in my aprillia sr scooter brochure!!! I'm using power petrol as normal petrol is mixed with ethanol. Am I doing correct thing with my scooter?? Please reply!!
This video is hugely misleading. You should never judge an engine by it's size (i.e cc). Volume of the engine cylinder is calculated in centimetres, hence its centimetres cube. This has nothing to do with its compression ratio. Please find the compression ratio of your scooter engine. If you find the compression ratio is more than 9.3 : 1 then use unleaded petrol, vice versa.

This is an amateur question: I am using normal petrol, how do I switch to Premium petrol?
I cannot empty the tank or, wait for petrol to get finished, as it would be a risk in commute as I travel a longer distance. Any suggestion on this would be appreciated.
