- My European side debated with my American side whether we don't take tips for granted and expect them without trying to actually give a decent service?

Just the tip.
😅
Im also a European living in America. I honestly think the company should be responsible for paying their workers, certain places it makes sense to tip but I have literally been to grocery stores where they ask for tip now, and why would I tip the grocery store? Then there’s other places where the line is not that clear and I feel bad for not tipping even though the money would not even go directly to the workers. I think the tipping culture in the us is so toxic. Like I live on a European wage that is literally minimum wage in the city where I live in the US, I’m probably broker than most of the people I have to tip😢😢 I’ve had American friends tell me that’s so European when I didn’t tip the women who made me a dollar ice cream smh
6 dollar ice cream ***
Yeeees I also sometimes feel like I have to tip the person next to me just because they breathe lol it is a bit toxic here with this and it is bad that responsibility of keeping wages of many people lays on customer not the employer , but reality is what it is so what we can do ? :/ I’m also feeling bad so I always tip but it is sometimes out of control 😅
