      I think the obvious choice are Biased Cog, Echo Form, etc., but I want to put a shout out for Boot Sequence, which is like getting an anchor (combined with Bag of Prep, it doesn't waste a card draw). Defect is all about getting the powers set up, so 10-13 free block really helps getting a high-cost energy card like Echo Form in play, particularly against enemies where the first turn can be bad (e.g., act 4 elites).

    one of my favorite little static discharge facts is that you don't need to take damage to trigger it, you just need to be hit and have no block and not have the damage prevented. (for example w/ a buffer stack.) If you've said, dark shackled the heart's multi attack you will absolutely get 15 lightning orbs out of it.

      Yes but not quite. The downside of Immolate is a Burn in your discard pile, which is a delayed downside that only comes around when the deck is reshuffled, and Ironclad can easily exhaust the Burn or even turn it into an upside with Evolve+. It can be really satisfying to do an orbless run as defect and scale using reprogram. Especially if you replace your starter relic with a boss relic. It makes hyperbeam have no downside, boosts 0 cost cards a lot, and it doesn't affect plasma.

  • @Garionica
    @Garionica Před 2 lety +16

    I do believe the downside to Aggregate is glossed over, here; Aggregate isn't a consistent draw, as if you draw it at the end of your deck and you don't have a way to shuffle the discard back into the deck it's a dead card. Recycle can be used in this situation, as can Turbo and the like. Not to say the ranking is poor, but consistency is something that can be seen as a downside.
    Also, had a pretty hilarious run recently with a boss relic replacement that gave be a fusion orb instead of the lightning orb. Ended up just getting a bunch of beefy attacks (like Streamline & Beam Attack), tons of energy, and two reprograms. Turned out to be one of my better runs, but about 99% of the time I would never touch reprogram, lol.

    • @szelitzkyerick7456

      Well most Defect decks are centered about playing your powers first time through the deck to make your orbs stronger, have more slots or have your first card play twice. So usually that's the gameplan, pick orb generators, pick focus, pick scaling powers and card draw. With enough card draw, aggregate helps you set up faster.

Other than that, I'm surprised you ranked Echo Form down in the A-tier. • @dstreetz91
      @dstreetz91 Před rokem

      I like the card personally, but I still like glacier more. Like almost always on turns where I want to block if I could pick between reinforced body or glacier I'd pick the glacier because it will give more block as soon as the next turn or if I have focus it will just be more block. I really like echoform too, but the issue has always been with the manacost of 3 and doing nothing until next turn. Like if I never had to take damage when I played it sure it's just S tier and better than every other card in the game at that point, but it can be awkward. Hurts that upgrading it just removes ethereal and doesn't give cost reduction unlike creative AI.

      Imo what makes reinforced body better than glacier is exactly the fact that it DOESNT touch your orbs thus making it more playable, as there are times you dont want to move your orbs around. Plus its more cost flexible by scaling up or down with your energy amount. As for echo form, i know its good and can be great but it might just be a B tier card for me. Not only is it a 3 cost do nothing until next turn type of card, it also absolutely demands an upgrade in order to make it more flexible but that upgrade in no way improves the card at all other than removing ethereal which is needed but also kind of feels a bit like a waste of an upgrade whenever i have to do it

    I think the criterion of "How frequently do I take this card?" should just be one of many criteria. After all, if your criteria prevents you from putting Echo Form in S-tier, something is wrong. Here are some other things to consider:
    - Frequency of selection (overall)
    - Frequency of selection in Act I
    - Frequency of selection in Act III
    - Strength with a little bit of synergy
    - Strength with a lot of synergy
    - Versatility
    - Strength/cost/draw ratio (e.g. Silent's Adrenaline is S-tier too me; it's just fundamentally broken and would simply not exist in most deckbuilders or CCGs/TCGs)

    • @1TieDye1
      @1TieDye1 Před 2 lety +5

      I think the simplicity of his ranking it part of the reason he uses his method. Everything in this game is very situational, which he says often. If you add in every possible situation, the tier list will become too convoluted and the high tiers would be clogged. Almost everything is good in the correct situation but that information isn't actually very helpful. I think that's why he talks about each cards extensively. Also, I don't think echo form is necessarily good. It's amazing, if you can play it during long combats. In short combats, you can frequently get more value for the energy by just playing more cards the turn you draw it. All that being said, it's frequently a curse, as a 3 cost card that doesn't give you benefit until the next turn.

While it hasent really been the best of cards i have found it to do some decent work on late game fights.
    I think the trap with it is to only think about it in decks that will generate 20+ lightnings easily where it just becomes a win more card since at that point everything is dead. But you dont need it to do 100 damage amd above on someone who can generate up to 20 energy with 2 cards and draw through their deck with coolheaded and skims. Just having it hurt for 30-40 in normal fights is already a very big part of the enemy hp.

    Here's my experience with Thunder Strike so far.
    My first completed Heart run with Defect actually used this card to finish the fight
    True, it takes a bit of a setup to deal sufficient damage. However, I had a card deck and relics that supported Thunder Strike.
    First of all, this attack scales very well with strength. I had Girya as one of the relics.
    Secondly, this card did fit my game plan for Act 3. The idea was to channel as many Frost orbs and Lighting orbs as possible, while having multiple orb slots, thanks to the Inserter relic.
    Also, a card such as Electrodynamics was utilised by me fill the orb slots more quickly. Meaning it was actually useful in single enemy fights.
