    Once a witness is sworn in, their testimony becomes evidence.

    One of the first things they taught us in basic training is that we were required to follow all lawful orders, but we were also required to disobey any orders we knew to be unlawful. Saying that you were just following orders doesn't cut it. The law overrides military authority. That's the legal reasoning for finding them guilty of conduct unbecoming.

      I agree with you except for (1) Legal Concept "extenuating circumstances", The Command structure at this Base was proven "In Court" to Lie, Cheat and Coverup I.E. Fake log books, coerce the Doctor. DAWSON himself had already been retaliated against for "Bringing a Hungry Guy Some Food". The Victim Santiago tried to jump the chain of command to get his grievances to be taken seriously and we all know what happened to him. Dawson and Downey should've been exonerated for being placed in a "No Win" situation, operating in a Broken Command Structure.

    Just so we are clear…they were court martialed. That’s what a military trial is.

    This movie was based on a real incident. Another movie based on a real incident, with a similar theme, is "Casualties of War". Bothe movies deal with the fact that military personnel are required to disobey unlawfull orders. This is required in international law and in the military codes of most, if not all, countries. In this movie, the lower ranks men failed in that duty. In Casualties of War, the new lieutenant refused to participate in a war crime, and got harassed by the squad.

    Re: my ramblings in the opening of the video
    WATCH PARK CHAN-WOOK'S, "JOINT SECURITY AREA" FROM THE YEAR 2000!! The story revolves around a military investigation. It's really good, and it ain't even the peak of his abilities!

    😵. . . My brain cannot adjust to the film being flipped in opposite direction cuz I’ve seen this movie so many times. I suppose that’s for copyright reasons. But you guys seem like a good channel. I’ll try another movie 🙏

      Yeah, my friend often has got to jump through various hoops to get these videos out lol. I will say that whenever I see a flipped version of a movie I like, I am always fascinated because it feels odd. Mainly because I am so used to the way the film actually is. But also because it highlights that certain camera angle + blocking feels inherently wrong for certain moments. And that is so interesting to me cuz it really does say something about camera angles and how they convey certain emotions and/or ideas. Does that make sense?
      Regardless, thanks for giving our channel a try! Hope you stick around for more!

    There are some jobs on the planet that many ppl can't do. Police work, working on oil rigs, being able to make military split second decisions. And even i was guilty on crapping on these ppl. But we need them. ppl like us are not doing these jobs. That unfortunately takes ego and a certain attitude. i know i can't do these job? can you? let's give these ppl in the military the respect they deserve

      Respect, sure. I truly never disrespect anyone unless I've got reason to. HOWEVER, some folks (including a fair amount of the men and women doing these tough jobs) think that just because these folks are doing these tough jobs (army, navy, police etc), their word is paragon, that they are beyond reproach, and above accountability or critique. THIS I disagree with.
      Col. Jessup very CLEARLY is one of these people. He thinks that he is owed all this respect, that their word is paragon, that they are beyond reproach. Moore and Cruise's characters simply asked him some fair questions and he chewed them out and majorly disrespected them (making demeaning sexual comments towards Moore's character and calling Cruise's character homophobic slurs). Is this behaviour becoming that of a respectable military leader?
      Jessup IS quite full of himself. This is dangerous. I mean look at what happens in the movie... because of the way he ran his squad, someone who should've been kicked out of the military due to poor performance was unfairly reprimanded in a way that resulted in his death. I'd say that's VERY poor leadership.
      Doing these tough jobs certainly requires a certain attitude, sure. I do not possess this and don't pretend to. I do have respect for good folks who perform these tough jobs well and fairly. However, I do not think that ego and self-importance are things that are required. In fact, these things are almost always INCREDIBLY harmful in ANY system/profession. Because these people have this much power... they SHOULD be accoutable and must strive to be the best of us. Putting anyone on a pedestal is dangerous.

    Don't ever apologize for being quiet or not talking so much during a movie. Too many people talk too much during movies and shows and over dialogue almost like they don't care to listen. Just because you're reacting to something doesn't mean you have to talk the whole time

    i love how you two are ready to not give the Tom Cruise character not one benefit of the doubt, even when everyone is dog piling on him, but the Demi Moore character get all the leeway she can handle. This just always dumb founded me. How can we be equal but some get the adult treatment while others get the benefit of the doubt treatment of children?

      @znk0r Před 2 měsíci

      Dude it's like you didn't pay attention to the movie. His character is an arrogant know it all who takes nothing seriously. There's a reason everyone is piling on him. He needed a reality check and to start taking things seriously before he became credible.
