      @norakirayumi Před 4 lety +153

      @@KrillintheVillain still won't apply. Will was literally, stabbed to death by Davy Jones, not die due to curse. If breaking curse means he's no longer part of Dutchman, that just means he lost his immortality ie *dies.*
      Also, as others stated, the Dutchman's job to ferry out dead people at sea was part of sea (their universe) law and not a curse.
      So yeah, none of the shenanigans-nonsense-curse in this movie shoulda happened to Dutchman and crew (esp Will) unless they actually went mad neglecting their jobs and become *Davy Jones and co 2.0*

    • @KrillintheVillain
      @KrillintheVillain Před 4 lety +32

      @@norakirayumi I hear you, it's all kind of messy. My take is the trident reverses the curse of the dead man's chest which was a curse bestowed by Jones, however the dutchman's curse fail safe is so to speak is that it must always remain with a captain. So it resurrected Jones soul for the job. That curse is forever bound to Jones soul since he was the one originally tasked with it by calypso herself. They mentioned that in the second movie that the curse of the dead man's chest needed a living heart but if there's no living heart there's no chest or key, meaning the Dutchman can't change captains anymore.
      This is basically how I rationalized it. But yes the trident of Poseidon crap really fucked up the lore

    Out of all the stuff that I hated in this movie, I'd have to say that Will Turner and the Flying Dutchman having sea growths on them was the most irritating. Will's been doing his job ferrying souls from this world to the afterlife, and it was established in the third movie that the reason why Davy Jones and the Dutchman looked like fish people was as a punishment for not doing their job. As well, when Will took over as the captain of the Dutchman, all the crew lost their fish people looks and actually began to look like real people again. Finally, Will shouldn't have been released from the Dutchman at the end of the movie because being on board it isn't a curse, it's a responsibility charged to him by Calypso. A curse is something like the Aztec gold in the first movie.

    • @notAshildr
      @notAshildr Před 6 lety +83

      Plus: fulfilling that duty is the only thing keeping him alive and able to run around at all. Mind that part of that commitment was to cut out your heart and put it in a box. He'd have been in Davy Jones' locker two movies ago if it wasn't for the Dutchman needing a Captain. If that "curse" is lifted his life should be over.
      The only thing I can think of how this could work is that Will actually wasn't cursed but that the locker of souls that die on sea is the curse. When the locker-curse is broken Wills commitment dies as there is no duty to fulfill anymore. He's then basically "honorably discharged", hopefully including the part where he gets his heart retransplanted...

    My idea on how to fix the movie:
    Have Calypso be responsible for hiding Poseidon's trident so that she could dominate the seas.
    Syrena, the mermaid from the last movie, possibly with Phillip, would be searching it so that the mermaids could regain Poseidon's favour (which was actually planned originally).
    Will would be in this movie much more. The minute Salazar escapes, he is hunting for him with the Dutchman, because it's literally his job to deal with the dead on the sea. Also, the Dutchman and Will would have their look from the end of At World's End because Will was not neglecting his duty like Davy Jones.
    Jack could very well start off at rock bottom but it should really be told to the audience that he has fallen far. And his personal goal is to once again be the Jack Sparrow of the past.
    Carina can be replaced with Angelica from the last movie. She could have gotten off the island by contacting a trade ship and wishes to reclaim the Queen Anne's Revenge, which would lead her to Barbossa and bring those two into the bigger picture. She could also find Jack by using the Voodoo puppet she got at the end of Stranger Tides.
    Henry could stay the same but it would have been nice to have him be Will III. like originally intended.
    Essentially, they will all end up at the Trident and the battle with Salazar ends with Will and the Dutchman sending them to the afterlife. As soon as they reclaim the trident, Poseidon rewards Will by breaking the Dutchman's curse because after all, Poseidon at full power is much stronger than Calypso, ending Calypso's rule. Jack would sail off with the Pearl, Angelica would get back the Queen Anne's Revenge after Barbossa's death, Syrena and the mermaids are in Poseidon's favour again, and Will and his son return to Elizabeth, who makes her cameo appearance.
    The post-credit scene will see a final reunion of Jack, Will and Elizabeth to signify that the franchise came to a nice close.

      Also, don't even get me started on the timeline. Take Karina's age, for example: Jack knew her mother, which makes you think that he met her sometime back in the days when they were buddies with Barbossa. THAT WAS OVER TEN YEARS BEFORE THE FIRST MOVIE, though. Later, Barbossa was cursed, and I don't think you can make babies as a skeleton. She's probably supposed to be around Henry's age, anyway, so that would mean that she was born sometime after the 3rd movie - but that one ended with Barbossa stealing Jack's ship again, so I don't see them hanging out together and chatting about their love life. They go back to being frenemies in the 4th movie, but that would make Karina way too young, and it seems that Barbossa became quite successful after that adventure, so this story makes no sense.

    I think that the biggest problem with this movie is the continuity errors. The first three movies were pretty consistent, they followed the same "rules" in universe. I haven't seen the fourth movie in forever, but i know the fifth movie disregards a lot of the rules previously established. The reason that Davy Jones and his crew looked like fish people was because they weren't doing their job of ferrying souls. Once Will becomes captain, the crew no longer look like fish creatures. Will should not have barnacles growing on him, neither should the rest of the crew. Also, when the curse is lifted, Will should die, since his heart was cut out of him and put in a chest. In the second movie (i think) Tia Dalma mentions how she gave Jack the compass, but in this movie it's stated that the compass was given to him by a former captain. Looking back at all the PoTC movies, you can see how Disney has changed. The first three were great, the fourth was shaky but it worked, and the last felt very rushed and forced. Kinda sad

    Only saw the movie today, and the biggest sin I felt with it:
    Where's the Flying Dutchman throughout all this?
    These are dead men, men who died at sea. The Flying Dutchman has literally one job. Nothing stops Turner from going after these guys, there are *plenty* of scenes where he could have shown up and saved this mess of a film. He could have served as exposition, tied the whole thing together. He could have provided an actual counter to the overpowered Pac-man boat. He could even have given Barbossa a better ending.
    Barbossa was the best thing in this film and they had to ruin it by killing him off so predictably. It's like How to Train Dragon 2 all over again: you know who's going to die just going off the ham-fisted dialogues.
    Edit: just checked the comments, glad to see I'm not alone in this. Like, really not alone... dang, everybody's thinkin' this, aren't they?

      Nobody probably, as entrapping souls in a torturous afterlife-locker sounds pretty curse-like to me... guess there is nowhere to ferry the dead anymore. Still confused about how Will is still standing though. By breaking all curses they pretty much unplugged his life support. He cut out his heart for the job, remember? No magical curse means you need that thing to survive...

    Actually, when Mythbusters tested the 'bullets in water' myth, they found that *modern* bullets almost universally shattered upon impact with the water, while older, more archaic musket balls (like the ones that would be fired in the movie) held together, and would have remained dangerous (though perhaps not lethal) at least a few feet under the surface.

    • @DrygdorDradgvork

      Terrachova A bullet won't break from water since water is less dense than any solid, apart from dirt and sand. It will stop moving at a lethal speed, however. Older projectiles used by flintlock muskets were more like lead balls, and were very often not lethal in air.

      @DrygdorDradgvork Před 6 lety +4

      Prins van Oranje uhhh... no. I'm guessing you're not very familiar with firearms, because bullets definitely can shatter when hitting water. It depends on the type, angle and the velocity of the projectile, but the surface tension and dramatic change in velocity over a very short time can cause them to shatter. That's just physics. Also, bullets fired from musket balls were and are still *incredibly* lethal. Where did you get that ridiculous idea?

    I enjoyed the POTC movies (first being my favorite), but Dead Men Tell No Tells was the worse. I think they spent more time and focus on the CGI to win audiences over then the plot. I hated the two new young characters, Jack Sparrow was dull, the undead villians have been done twice before, and the holes and conflicts in the story couldn't be overlooked to accept the storyline. They only thing that kept my attention was Geoffrey Rush/Barbossa, but even his character was tampered so much that he wasn't the same. Instead of the lame new characters being the focus, they should've stuck with Sparrow and Barbossa teaming up (along with their humorous banter) against Salazar. The fans enjoyed Barbossa and Sparrow's "frienemies" relationship and the writers could've taken it to the next level.

However, at the end of AWE, his heart was cut out and put into the Dead Man's Chest. Therefore, when the curse broke, he should have dropped dead. The same applies to Salazar and his crew, as it is shown they all died during the explosion of their ship. Evidently, the Trident doesn't merely break the curse, but also restores the cursed to their original form. This can also explain the appearance of Davy Jones, whose heart was not only cut out, but stabbed.”

      I mean it would have fitted so well. A ghost crew killing tons of people vs the ferryman of the souls (in this universe) and his crew. Neither would have (probably) been able to kill one another but at the very least they could have easily delayed them... both sides being unkillable and all.

      On top of that imagine the possible reactions. As an example: Salazar confronts, without knowing who they are, the crew of the Flying Dutchman and , because said crew is up for some shit and giggles, mows them down. Just to get counter attacked by the 'recently deceased' and THEN realizing that in front of him is pretty much the collector of souls. And he is coming for him since he is tired of supernatural seaman and their shit.
      Instead the focus is on one-dimensional (Henry and Carina) and butchered (Jack) characters.

How did he know his father would recognize him and bring the ship to the surface? And why WOULD it be such a problem if the Dutchman's crew discovered this child on the ship? Is Will Turner NOT the Dutchman's Captain? Wouldn't a single order from him cause the crew to stand down? Is his father not also part of the crew as well?

After he made a deal with Davy Jones to resurface the Pearl in exchange for his servitude aboard the Dutchman, Tia Dalma, Calypso bound in her human form with her *magic restricted* since the First Court, happened to possess the compass lost at sea and conveniently give it back to Jack when he came to barter for it.

    I have a large issue with this movie. If all curses have been lifted then shouldn't Will be dead, in the third film his heart was cut out and with the curse no longer there he has no heart for real so therefore he should have died immediately after the trident was broken

      Their cursed by Barbosa, or should they have replace the cast with kids to grow up seeking to break the curses (Leaving the viewers to figure out who these new kids are), that is what I did not like about Logan.

    I just watched the entire 5 movie franchise again, and it's honestly heartbreaking how they ruined this universe. The first three movies were actually good, the 4th one is up for debate, but this one was just a straight blunder. Depp has completely lost touch of his Jack Sparrow character and overacts the entire movie, like he's a drunk version of his own persona. Geoffrey Rush doesn't get to play his funny, offensive, pirate-y Barbossa anymore, instead he's now an emotional shipwreck. The two new "love story" characters are even worse than the ones in On Stranger Tides, with an overforced relation, and overforced stupid jokes that don't work at all. Salazar is just another dead-undead villain who no one sees anything original in. The pirates of Jacks crew have lost their touch as well, as they went from fearless, simple minded yet enjoyable pirates to "oh look at me im dumb" characters that overforce childish jokes. Honestly, the only good thing about this movie is Gibbs, as his character stayed mostly the same and I enjoyed watching him, as he reminded me of a better time. It's sad how this franchise has come to a close. I hope the 6th one, which is in the making, gets cancelled. I can't take another deeper dive into the abyss of failed movies.

    • @alleira7628
      @alleira7628 Před 2 lety

      I 100% agree, Gibbs was the MVP of the franchise for me, the only consistency among the mess of a plot that was the 5th movie.

      the fact they made barbossa have a unknown daughter all of a sudden then killed HIM off and left the daughter alive whom we only know “isn’t a witch” and holds a damn diary is frustrating. I have the sixth gets canceled too

    missed the fact that Salazar's ship caught up to the Black Pearl - which is supposed to be the fastest ship ever. Also, I kind of expected at the end where Carina asks Barbossa "What am I to you?" and he says "Treasure" for Bruno Mars to shuffle in all like "Treasure! That is what you are! You're my golden STAR!"

    The biggest sin for me was that Will was alive only because of that curse. He got killed so they used him to kill Jones so he got cursed and he was kept alive. Wouldnt canceling the curse also mean that he would just drop dead?
