I’ve got an 04 GMC 2500HD 6.0. You’re right, most people think you need a diesel and 800 hp with 9,000 lb ft of torque to tow 2,500 lbs. I’ve towed 10,000 lbs with mine on an 800 mile trip through the Sierra nevadas. It kept up with traffic just fine. I was very impressed. I have no idea why people say these are dogs when towing. Maybe they just have very high, unreasonable expectations.
I read once that people think engines are being hurt if they rev over like 2000rpm, and wanting to just putting the cruise control on while towing a decent load , that never slows down, no matter what terrain comes their way. I mean, sure must be nice to have something that tows that effortlessly, but the COST! good lord the cost of diesel, all of them are brutal for parts, some of the designs are ludicrously bad, not to mention the cost upfront, and this covid pricing for Diesel trucks, guys with rusted out ancient Cummins Rams think they're holding onto a 1 of 20 Hemi Cuda or something, what a joke. 10,000lbs on a trip that long through the mountains is impressive. I have a friend with a higher mileage 04 2500hd Duramax, he just spent crazy money on simple repairs, injectors, pumps, things that on the 6.0 Ls would have cost a few hundred. Pandemic is nuts! a guy sold his 2014 or so Frontier for 2.5k (or so) MORE then he was asking on Kijiji to a dealer, showed up not long after to buy this thing, used car prices are ludicrous!
Just got one of those trucks extended cab 2500hd 6.0 4x4 188,000 miles for two grand so far I like it's going to replace a 1990 f150 two wheel drive regular cab

What your gas mileage I have a single cab same truck almost 400 miles in a full tank 26 gallons at $2.70 in Texas
Its 4.20 a gallon here in Calgary, it makes I think 13mpg highway and probably 10 in the city, they're not the best on fuel thats for sure!
