- Malaysia's jungle railway absolutely blew us away!
We have loved our adventures in Malaysia and have enjoyed meeting Malaysian locals and trying lots of local Malaysian food but this train journey... it was one of the main reasons we planned to visit Malaysia in the first place! Malaysia's jungle is so so beautiful and there was no better way to see it then travelling through the heart of it on a local Malaysian train with local Malaysian people! This is hands down one of the best ways to explore Malaysia and this jungle train is at the top of our recommendations for when you travel to Malaysia!

@SilkyRonTheRoad #SilkyRonTheRoad Hello sir, I recommend you COME TO TERENGGANU, an interesting location in Besut Terengganu, Perhentian Island, lata Tembakah waterfall. la hot spring , lata belatan , keluang hill, setiu wetland, mangok village and redang island, bidong island and many more interesting places
@@BpChannel01 wow! Thank you so much for all of those recommendations, we will see what we have time for! Keep an eye out to see where we end up! ✨
@@BpChannel01 agreed. U must spend at the top of Bukit Keluang Besut Terengganu.
Thank you! 😊
nasi kerabu is actually a name of a herbal rice dish, the word kerabu means salad but the blue peeps were just joking with 'nasi' = rice, 'ke' = to, 'rabu' = wednesday, the official name is just nasi kerabu or kerabu rice, it's a blue-colored rice is eaten with fried chicken or with no meat, crackers, pickles and some vegetables (also my favourite dish) The blue color of the rice comes from the petals of the butterfly pea flower, which are used as a natural food coloring
Ooh that sounds delicious! Thank you for that, we will for sure look out for that! 😁✨
"Rice to wednesday"🤔🤔🤔 thats a good one!!
Wow....amazing 😮😱
By far the best jungle railway video, u brought me tears and laughters. Thank you!
Ahh we’re so happy that you enjoyed it! ✨🙏🏼✨
Wakaf Baru is the best place to stop if u wanna visit Kelantan. Its near to Kota Bharu (main city).
Thank you for this info! 😁 ✨
Glad both of you managed to reach kota bahru. You always get help when you need it. God bless.
We really do, Malaysian people have always been there to help us! We LOVE Malaysia! ✨
When I was still at school, I used to take one of these trains during term breaks. My favourite memory was sitting on the steps enjoying the breeze, passing time. Just like what you guys did here. It’s the best thing about train journeys but sadly we can’t do that anymore with modern ones. I hope this experience will never disappear….
Ahh that’s so sad, we hope that they keep these trains with open doors, it’s so magical and I’m sure is so nostalgic for you! 😍
@@SilkyRonTheRoadNo, please no open doors. Zombie apocalypse is ugly, we need to learn from Train to Busan :/
Just joking 😆
glad u guys have a chance to try this train as it will stop working once the new train project finish in the next 2-3 years..
Oh no! That's so sad to hear, we loved it and would love to do it some more times before it changes! Let's see when we can get back to Malaysia! 🇲🇾
The train journey looks incredible and we're glad you found a guesthouse. Great video, friends!
The train is honestly one of the highlights for us! You guys have gotta do it! ✨
U guys so energetic. Positive vibes. Lovely video.
Aww thank you so much! ✨🙏🏼✨
I love your b-roll shots. The colors pop! I agree about the safety in Malaysia. I never get nefarious vibes. I feel safer walking around here that back home in the States.
Ahh thank you so much, that means a lot! We feel the same about UK & Belgium! 🙌🏼
Coincidental that you'd mention this. The Toy Train from Kalka to Shimla was on my bucket list before Sri Lanka was even a thought. Especially since Darjeeling tea is one of my favorites and is grown in the Himalayas and accessible I think with this train.
Some say no A/C so you ride with the windows open and you are covered in soot because the train is coal fired. But then I found out, if this still holds true, there are two versions and the other one might be steam, which explained why some riders didn't have the soot issue. Did you?
But since I now have seen where and how tea is grown and processed from extensive travels to tea plantations and master tea tasting lessons in Sri Lanka, this isn't as exciting as it once was -
UNLESS there are other very interesting things to see on this journey. Were there and if so, what were they and why were they interesting to you?
I have traveled a fair amount in India - my last trip in 2018 was a few weeks in Rajasthan than visiting my friends in Kolkata. I found India interesting as a leisure vacation thing as prior to that was only there on business.
But I find it more stressful to travel in India then other places. And after seeing so many stunning temples in Bangkok and Chiang Mai on my two trips there I really am more excited about that Buddhist style than the Hindu temples, of which I have also seen many.
I'm sharing all this to see what enlightenment you can give me as I am running out of places need to find more places to visit :-).
Amazing! We didn’t have the soot problem but also sat in the luggage compartment which meant that we could hang our legs out of the train for the whole journey! 😁
The best thing to do after this journey is a 9 day jeep tour through Spiti Valley, it’s one of the most amazing places we’ve seen on our travels!
After over 7 months together in India Rajasthan is one of our favourite places for sure, the culture there is so so vibrant!
We can definitely agree with the temple thing, we loved exploring the Buddhist temples in Thailand and all over South East Asia! Myanmar is very high on our lists, Silke was there a few years ago but we’d love to go together! 🙏🏼
Hi, I'm the seller at the railway canteen🥰
Ahh amazing! In which station? ✨

What a beautiful journey through the jungle 😍
It really is, we loved it so much! ✨🙏🏼✨
I can see the excitement you both feel ☺️ You both didn't stop smiling while riding the train 😆 By the way, welcome to my country, Malaysia 🇲🇾 I am from the southern state of Malaysia called Johor. I hope you will come to visit my state one day. Don't forget to visit the other states too!
It did make us so so happy! 😍 if you check out our TikTok you’ll get to see where we are now… maybe closer than you think! 😜
I love the jungle... Not much jungle nowadays in southern part of Malaysia
We love it too and it sounds like we started in the right place then! It was one of our favourite experiences! ✨
Always waiting for your video such a lovely couple 😁👍❤️🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
Aww thank you so much! We love doing what we do! ✨
@@SilkyRonTheRoad I wish I have a loving husband like yours, mine is always busy, i take care of my five sons day and night, haha... Not my luck maybe hmm
Love your video's editing, and I have subscribed! Hopefully both of you will consider travelling to Sarawak or Sabah, East Malaysia, Malaysia Borneo. Love from Sarawak, Malaysia!
Ahh thank you so much! We for sure will visit, we are planning for next year! 😉 see you soon! ✨🙏🏼✨
While in Kelantan you should try nasi kerabu a local delicacies there. It is rice mixed with variaty of vegetable/salads/crackers and also come with meet, fish or chicken if you want. The rice maybe white in color of blue in color (color by a flower).
Ooh we will for sure look out for that! It sounds delicious! 😍 Let us know if you have any more recommendations! ✨
@@SilkyRonTheRoad Alas, I always worry that we haven't got many traditional food to cater for you two lovely vegetarians. Maybe have the rice and raw veg, sans the protein or the cracker (which is made from fish). There is an option of adding hard-boiled salted duck egg, I believe. Kelantanese food tend to be on the sweet side, with lots of kuehs. There is always those ketupats that you had in the car, of glutinous rice with added beans.
@gebmetroworlds4537 ahh we always end up finding something! We love Malaysian food! We will for sure try this! Thank you! 🙏🏼
OMG! Such an epic journey. Been to Kelantan 11 years ago and hopefully can return there someday ❤❤❤❤
Ooh we definitely recommend coming back! And we would’ve loved to have visited 11 years ago, I’m sure a lot has changed in that time! ✨
That sound of train❤️🔥 joy
Our favourite thing! 😍
Love how cheerful you are! OK since you guys love nature and hiking if you had found out earlier, you could have made accomodations booking ahead and stopped in Dabong 2 nights. Theres a beautiful mountain with caves and waterfall to explore. Then continue the following days by the same train to Kota Baru. Anyway, hope the rest of your stay in Kota Baru will be a wonderful discovery of taste, culture and hospitality🕺💃💕
Ahh we heard about it too late! Next time we get the chance we will for sure visit Dabong!
Thank you for the recommendation and we are for sure open to hearing more! ✨
I love nasi kerabu and kopi ais sedapp!!
Ooh we love Kopi Ais! 🤤
Beautiful , you two are always grazing 😂
Haha you know us! Especially on trains! 😂
I used to ride the old locomotive 🚂 from to Johor as a child reading Mad magazine and Howard the Duck comic I got from the shops at the train station during the 80s, never forget the experience. ❤
Wow! That sounds amazing! I’m sure that it would’ve been amazing to ride that train at that time! ✨
@@SilkyRonTheRoad yeah it is, seeing vast rivers, padi fields and looking at the evening sky, plus you could push down the windows at the time unlike the sealed ones in the new train and getting some of that natural air from the surroundings.
@personatodo ahh just like in India! The dream 😍
both of you hv a very sweet smiles
Aww thank you so much! ✨🙏🏼✨
It's a joke. They translated it to english word by word. Nasi Kerabu - if u separate the words. Nasi = rice, Kerabu, Ke is "to" in malay and Rabu is "Wednesday" which don't really make sense so that's kinda funny 😅
Haha that's so funny! 😂 We will definitely try Rice to Wednesday... 😂
the first person who make joke about nasi kerabu say it wednesday rice is Rhys William 😀
Who is that? 🙊
Finally after long wait …. 👍👍😁😁… by the way kuala lipis is my hometown
Ahh amazing, it’s a beautiful place! ✨
Loves to see u'r guys..loving couple.
Aww thank you so much! ✨🙏🏼✨
Hi guys! Love this video. I'm hoping you can help me as I am considering taking this train only because your video has inspired me.
I travel to Asia a lot. I'm a 70-year-old solo traveler. Last year I was in Malaysia twice as well as Sri Lanka.
But after a while you run out of things to do in the particular country that are of interest to you. I'm not a beach person. m
My excitement is from culture, food and making new friends.
Have you taken the beautiful train through the tea plantations in Sri Lanka as I did? Because looking at your video it looks like what you were seeing through the window is similar to that and if so what would I gain as a new experience by taking this jungle train?
Hey! 😁 we are so happy to hear this!
It sounds like our interest are very similar.
We haven’t taken the train through the tea plantations as we drove it in a tuktuk which was one of our favourite things to do.
If you are visiting Sri Lanka again and haven’t tried it I’d recommend a self-drive tuktuk! 😉
As for this train in Malaysia, we highly recommend it! The journey through the jungle is stunning, and we felt like there was a great insight into the local culture as we could go and sit with the locals in the restaurant carriage and talk to them! We absolutely loved this train! ✨
Ha ha both of always happy 😂 travel by train 🚉 let's explore ahead🌿 take care ☕️🍣🦪
Travelling and meeting local people and trying local food all makes us so so happy! 😍
Rice to wednesday? Damn, first time hearing it myself. LOL
😂
4:00 basicly its safe, but, still be carefully, every place have their own culprit 😅..
For sure! We always make sure to hold on tight if we do this! And watch out for any branches or tunnels! 😂
@@SilkyRonTheRoad indeed anywhere has its own culprit, just make sure u hold on tight to ur travel document like passport, phone, $$ and all the basic essential. Travel well, travel safe and enjoy discovering Msia
nice jungle train 👍🏾👍🏾😀
It’s an amazing railway line! 😍
Good job teacher... 😂
Rice to Wednesday @ nasi kerabu
Really!!! Hahahaha 😂😂😂😂
Haha our language lesson of the day! 😂
Nasi kerabu- rice to Wednesday actually rice blue salad..u should try it..suitable for vegetarian..but ask them do not put BUDU because BUDU is anchovies paste..
Ooh thank you, we can't wait to try! Let us know if you have any other recommendations! ✨
I was wondering if your ticket allows you to get off and walk around interesting places along this trip and the return to the next train on the same ticket? And do they run often enough to be able to get back on in a couple of hours?
Or perhaps there is not much interesting close these train stations?
I've traveling to and from KL to Ipoh and George Town, and enjoyed those rides and cities where I stayed for a couple of days each. But enough to return again? Not sure.
Any train rides you recommend in Asia and if so, what was interesting about them?
Okay, so unfortunately we don’t know about the possibility to get off and on with the same ticket but I’m sure that there would be some worthwhile stops to spend a day and then take the train the next day.
And with regards to our favourite train journeys, our top one so far is the Toy Train from Kalka to Shimla in India! It was a magical train journey that we took at 3am so that you get to the highest point of the journey for sunrise! 😍
Hi guys, nice channel you have. We like to look at your channel, we (my girlfriend and I) are also in Malaysia, Perhentian island atm. We like your trip so mucj that we also want to do the jungle train but we cant get to figure out how to go from ferry besut to the nereast jungle train stop (prob. Tanah merah). Can you help us or give tips on how you did that?
Hey! That’s amazing! Thank you so much!
We would recommend going to Kota Bharu (we absolutely love it there) and then take the train from there south to Kuala Lipis or further south if you like! 😁
@@SilkyRonTheRoadThanks for the response!! Is t worth it to do the hassle and go with the jungle train?
Nice video..
Thank you so much! ✨
4:02 Absolutely a NO to this..... Never leave your valuables/anything you can't afford to lose unattended like this......
We will for sure remember that! But honestly Malaysia feels like a very safe country! ✨
Welcome to Kelantan. Do come to Pasir Mas
Thank you so much! We will try our best!
Nasi Kerabu? i think you already know what is Nasi Kerabu is. But what the teachers talk about was Nasi Kerabu direct translation to English is Nasi = Rice, Ke = To, Rabu = Wednesday. So it become "Rice To Wednesday". They are just joking with you. If you are still in Kelantan, I recommend try it. The basic Nasi Kerabu should be vegetarian, minus the keropok and ask for NO BUDU (fish paste).
Yup, we knew Nasi but not Kerabu! Thank you so much for the information, we will for sure try it! ✨
@@SilkyRonTheRoad if u want buy nasi kerabu u can ask seller what condiments the put on.
1. Blue rice
2. Ulam - mix herbs salad
3. Serunding - Fried grated coconut( sometime they mix with fish )
4. Kuah Tumis - spiced sauce
5. Budu -fermented fish sauce
6. Keropok (fish crackers)
Gorgeous little video! The toilets are much better than the Indian sleeper trains 😅
Haha that’s the understatement on the century!!! 😅
We absolutely love India’s trains but the toilets… they’re something else! 🤣
@@SilkyRonTheRoad I think it’s the lack of that makes it such an experience .. who doesn’t like to see the floor moving beneath them whilst doing their business ?!

Nasi kerabu(rice to wednesday)sound like a joke, but more sense to says..
Don,t missed go to dabong..the most popular is a waterfall...the highest waterfall in the southeast asia..
Ahh no way! Can't believe we missed it! We should've got off the train... 🤪 next time for sure! ✨
@@SilkyRonTheRoadacttually u should be follow the teachers in the same train for making the motivation camp🙂🙃😀..same place i guess..never mind..next time
Wah you eat so much bread on this trip
Haha yup! 😂
haha Nasi Ke Rabu = Rice to Wednesday. 🤣
🤣😂🤣
The nasi kerabu thing is a joke from them..
but u have to try nasi kerabu in kelantan, u wont regret it!
Ooh we can’t wait!!! Any other recommendations we’d love to hear! ✨
The teachers were making a joke. You know nasi is rice, ke in malay is to. Rabu is Wednesday. So if you translate nasi kerabu directly to English (which is non existing) it will sound like rice to Wednesday. Nasi kerabu like nasi lemak is a food but originates in kelantan.
Haha it’s a good one! 😋 we heard that Kelantan is known for it’s amazing food… 🙊
@@SilkyRonTheRoad they do. Many are sweeter compared to other parts of malaysia. Nasi kerabu is the famous one. Butterfly pea rice.
Next stop Perhentian islands
Maybe… maybe not, you have to wait to find out! 😋

@@TheMan-xp4cb Do you think that Perhentian Island is the best one? What about Redang of Lang Tengha?
@@SilkyRonTheRoad
I think Perhentian Kecil is the best
You can visit the turtle conservation centre & swim with the turtle
Redang is more built up & more expensive
You can take a boat to Perhentian Besar

@@SilkyRonTheRoadRedang and Perhentian are pretty similar, some prefer Redang while some prefer Perhentian - loads of resorts and chalets to choose from and kinda touristy.
Lang Tengah is pretty small island with much less accommodation options - there's only 2 resorts there I guess.
If you decided on Perhentian, then you need to go to Kuala Besut jetty (1 hour from Kota Bharu). If Redang or Lang Tengah, u need to get to Kuala Terengganu/Merang*
But if you want a more local vibe, try Kapas Island instead. Its less touristy, except for the day-trippers - Kapas is most accessible it's only 10mins away by boat from the mainland, all other islands is at least 45mins away. There's options for chalet or even camping on the beach.
Kapas is accessible by boat from Marang Jetty, south of Kuala Terengganu (KT). From KT, you can take a local bus from the city bus station.
*Note: Do note the difference between Marang and Merang. MArang jetty for Kapas (south of KT), MErang jetty for Redang (north of KT)
