The original song is majority autotuned. Mitch is like “i got this!!!!” They are so talented
To truly appreciate their arrangement of this song, you have to listen to the original. The octave jumps Mitch does vocally where all done electronically in the original. Not dissing the original artist since that's her style, but this is just so much better. The way Avi and Kevin echo the computerized background is unreal. Kirstie and Scott more than make up for all the missing computer backgrounds.
I think one of the BIGGEST overlooked things in the PTX universe is the work. These artist put in the work. They don't just accept good. They write, they rewrite, they listen, then tweek and since they love each other without any Divas they critique each other until the end product is simply perfection. Like a sports team that has played together for years and they just know each others moves, this is what you get after YEARS of work and dedication. Much love and keep on keepin on J.
Also notice this one of there "live" recordings. They did not do this in the studio and lip sync, they sang it straight without edits. They are perfectionists.

Ben Bram is the 6th member of PTX. He is the one that does all of these arrangements usually with Kevin first then the rest of them. He deserves major props for these too. He's the invisible member of the group. They call themselves choir nerds.
Trust me, it's pretty damn fun watching them in a sold out stadium of 20,000+ fans! They spin gold wherever and whenever they open their mouths -- and yet they're all so damn humble and laid back!
I love the way you respect the talent of this group. It makes me sad when their fans get side tracked on all the personal life stuff. These people are pure talent and should be listened to and appreciated. Never lose sight of the undesirable talent of the group and the individual abilities that each one brings to the table.
It’s amazing what the human voice can do. They make it seem so easy. Mitch his voice is unbelievable.

Not sure there is another group of friends that could get together and do this, but let me know if you find them and I’ll come to the party! 😀I hadn’t heard the original before hearing this (I’m old, they are actually my introduction to most popular music) but I was disappointed when I looked up the original and watched it, it couldn’t hold a candle to this amazing performance.
Yes - me too - I've gone back and listened to the originals of many of their covers and heard singers I had not previously listened to. I always prefer the PTX version!
ive got four siblings and whenever all of us are at home we often spontaneously end up composing an acapella without meaning to lmao. its instinct at this point, one of us could be humming while scrolling through our phone or doing the laundry or just whatever and one by one the rest join in 😂
Same here!😄 Pentatonix is mostly my introduction to the songs by others. I’ve been in stores or listening to the radio in the car and hear a song that I recognize but it doesn’t sound right… then the light bulb goes off and it’s Oohhh that must be by the original artist. Sorry, but PTX’s “upgrade” is better by far!!🤣🤣🤣😁😁🥰
Yes! I second that! PTX songs are all originals to me - with very few exceptions - even their Evolution Of’s are actually A Song, not a compilation (the only exception being Michael Jackson, because I was a fan).
So, the Only song I deliberately sought out (to hear the original), was this one, because of all of the comments saying that they wiped the floor with it! Guess what? EVERYBODY was correct!! The PTX version isn’t better! It’s HEAD & SHOULDERS Better. It isn’t a cover. It’s an UPGRADE!
Since this song, I’ve Never sought out the original of any other cover. There really isn’t any need. I figure that I’m ALWAYS hearing the best version of the song if PTX are singing it. 🤗
I love how their body language adds a huge dimension to build their performances.

It’s funny when you were talking about how they could be in a cigar lounge etc I instantly thought of their cover of ‘Havana’, it has such a chilled laid back vibe, if you haven’t reacted to that yet I HIGHLY suggest it 😁 This is one of my favourites, everything about it is amazing and it’s absolutely better than the original which is highly enhanced and Kiiara can’t do the chorus live without looping. This video really shows off how in tune with each other they are and it’s mind blowing 🤩

I love playing this while I drink a glass of Baileys( well maybe 2 glasses). I also blast the volume up. It’s amazing how much house work gets done. I'd argue this isn't simple at all. The video production, sure. But the arrangement is wack difficult. Especially Kirstin's part near the end. Credit to her.

I love the sound of Mitch's voice in this song. I think I heard another reactor/musician call it a vocal chop? Anyway, it's heavenly. And how the 3 do that part near the end, aaaahhhh, it's just so insane!

Your reactions are always fun, funny, and bang on point especially when it comes to PTX. You need to react to my favorite member, Kevin KO Olusola, that man is a beast!
He speaks 5 languages, one of them fluent in Chinese Mandarin. He's Classically trained from the age of 5 in Piano, Sax and Cello. He preformed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall twice, 1st time with the Sax, 17yrs old and 2nd time on the Cello 18yrs old. He was accepted into Yale at 17 and was finished Pre-Med by the time he joined PTX in 2011 at the age of 21. He is a musical and academic prodigy!!

As much as i love PTX, i need to recommend you check out some other a cappella groups. Voiceplay (Carry on Wayward Son), Home Free (Man of Constant Sorrow), and Voctave (anything on their playlists)...they all have wonderful and extensive rabbit holes to fall down.
