Hi , just watched your video..... you have done a great job explaining everything 👍 I'm just curious, did they fit an aftermarket mic that clips onto your a pillar or does this unit use the cars mics which would be up where the interior lights are ?
I've got a problem with the connectivity of my iphone 5...I connect it with the KCA-IP202 and an ipod/iphone adapter, but it doesn't work. It always get connected and disconnected. Do you have any idea whats wrong? Do I have to change something in the settings?
i’ve got this same head unit, but i can’t play audio/music out of it, it will allow me to make phone calls on the car speakers but whenever i try to play a youtube video it won’t play through the screen
TX for the vid. But there is one question left for me. Did you use the original cable set CAW-CKIMVW1 and CAW-KIMUN1 ? Because I want to buy the DNX 521 DAB, but this is the first Video were I saw that the MDI is fully working. So how did you do this (Firmware update or cable set)? And is the Navigation also shown in the MDI?
I have installed it yesterday but i don't see the turn by turn signs on the mdi. Maybe i have to enable the navigation menu with VCDS, im going to give it a try. I have read on several websites that this option is included. I have the dnx525dab installed.
I've sorterd it;) When installing the KIMUN1 interface in a modelyear 2010 and newer VW car and you don't have a navigation screen in your instrument cluster with turn by turn signs. You have to perform the following steps in VCDS. Go to controle module 19 - can gateway Select - Installation List Check the box 37 - Navigation Save coding Restart your car and you will have a new screen in your cluster. When your following a route you will get turn by turn signs. Compass screen will not work. Enjoy!
@@roybm3124I long time ago now I know but I've just installed one of these. It does not show nav or song information in the cluster but does show climate on the kenwood. Any ideas? I noticed there were switches on the CAW-KIMUN1 that are all set to off, do these do anything? I had previously OEM nav which showed the directions in the MDI

Unfortunately doesn't allow streaming via Bluetooth for phone or Spotify etc. Big disappointment as I just picked up a lovely Scirocco with this set. Only phone contacts / calls etc. I'm now looking at a Bluetooth 30 pin connector for the glovebox cables.
+Joshua Schwarz See below :). The Startup screen (VW, Seat or Skoda Logo) can be changed on the DNX520VBT. The image format needed is a 800×400 pixel JPEG image. (*.jpg) To carry this out you need to press SRC+EJECT+RESET. then release the RESET button and still hold in the SRC+EJECT button until the Startup screen selection loads. You will be shown two options, Kenwood Image or OEM Image. plug in a USB device with your image file you want as a Startup screen into the USB slot on the DNX520 / 521 VBT. once the USB Device has been discovered you can then select OEM Image and select the image on your USB drive. Select ENTER to write the image to the Head Unit. Once this is done you can press reset to exit and reboot your Kenwood unit. then recall your settings. note: Before entering this setup mode, save your settings from the SETUP MEMORY option. Select TOOLS, SYSTEM, SETUP MEMORY. Select YES, MEMORY and confirm that you want to write to the memory. Once you have finished the start up screen proceeder, recall your saved settings from the above options.
Sorry for any inconveniences caused! The above combination is for entering into SPECIAL TEST MODE! The correct combination for setting a new boot logo (e.g. from Kenwood Garmin to VW) is below: SPLASH SCREEN PROCEDURE: - Images intended to be used as splash screen should be in the following format: 16-bit Full Color Bitmap (.bmp) RGB setting: (R5, G6, B5) - VERY IMPORTANT! Resolution of 800x480 (no resizing required) (Photoshop is one application that can save in these settings, on the freeware front, GIMP (www.gimp.org/) is available; Windows Paint can NOT save in this exact format.) Once you have your intended image, copy it to the root folder of your USB device. Important: There should be some kind of other media type (JPG, MP3, etc) on the USB device; for some reason, these head units will not see the files needed for the image update otherwise. 1. Before proceeding, save the head unit's settings via the SETUP MEMORY option. - Select TOOLS > SYSTEM > SETUP MEMORY - Select YES > MEMORY to confirm. 2. Connect your USB device to the USB port. 3. Hold down MENU and TEL buttons. This will shut the unit off. 4. While holding MENU + TEL, use a pen or some other small, blunt device to press the RED TRIANGLE (reset) button. 5. Release the RESET button. Continue to hold MENU + TEL until the interface buttons illuminate. 6. You will then be taken to the Startup Menu Screen. Select KENWOOD to use the Kenwood image or OEM to use the image on your USB device. 7. If you choose OEM, the desired image will appear as a blacked out square and even say "No Image" when selected. However, the file name will appear. This will become the new splash image upon reset. 8. Reboot the head unit. The new splash image should appear.

Could you explain how to change the startup-screen?
That is a nice feature to finish the embedding of the new radio.
