    at 22:19 he says : " I've always had this interest that, if I get impressed by something, I want to do the same." .... I think this is a very common feeling ( and a valuable one) but many artists now are afraid to follow through.

      And we have no understand of him even here in Norway while he is alive, nobody understands him and he is prosecuted and hated; or loved as some do. But not understood. Its the curse of an artist while he is living it seems. When he is dead it will be another story.. They will hold him as a precious national treasure even though they treated his as shit when he lived; he never got a DIME from Norwegian state! all other artists here get everything they ask for! WHen u start earning money the government comes for u!!

    I'm a poet and I sometimes become jealous of painters. I tried to paint, but it was hopeless. But I love being a poet more than I could ever love painting. Odd Nerdrum is my favorite living painter. But it's conceivable that I haven't witnessed all the paintings in the contemporary world. I couldn't tell the Rembrandt was ruined.

      A painter needs a canvas, but a poet could create art, even at the most obscure places such as in a youtube commentary field. That is but one thing that makes poetry so fascinating.

    The «bad restoration» part is powerful, Odd tells it like it is when it comes to art, he does not bow down to museum bureaucrats! His eye is wiser and sharper than theirs. He is fearless when he sees something ugly. The knowledge this painter has is a lexicon. He has a natural arrogance, but it comes from a deep love of classical art. He is like a hawk with a paintbrush in his grip.

      Odd Nedrum has been to Nesna University College in Norway and failed to complete any lecture on art ... Evidence that Odd Nedrum is not quite the right artist .... and jokes about the restoration of Danae, 1643 by Rembrandt van Rijn .. .
      Only words are: Absolutely insane and Hello ...
      Nedrum is not able to respect Russia and Russian culture ... He does not own a culture attitude ... and a custom to meet other cultures --- and can not speak English once))))

    If you know someone has a blindspot--and everyone does--ask him what he's looking at when you happen to see him looking contemplatively. He will tell you what he can see. Then get him to describe it. Then ask him why he likes it. He will tell you what he thinks beauty is. Try this sometime.

    I do not accept that he is any kind of master at painting. But I do accept that he has a huge ego and believes his own myth. Great art is always a pleasure to see. His paintings are simply unpleasant reminders of a disturbed personality. This is not just a subjective opinion.

      To be honest you do need a serious amount of self belief or confidence to be an artist. Of course integrity plays a large part as well. I'm of the personal belief that it takes many lifetimes to develop the skills and attributes of an artist of his ability. Tha ability to feel God.

    As artists we have absolutely no bearing or influence on the world anymore. Art no longer changes anything. My own genre, poetry, has been this way for at least 30 years, after the death of Anne Sexton. The only thing we can do is unite. Do you read Atsuro Riley or Mark Strand? None of my friends have ever heard of Odd Nerdrum, except than I mentioned him. Some of them are poets. It is as if each genre ignores the others. Has a painter ever read a favorite work and painted the images he saw in his mind's eye? I can only think of one poet who paints. His name is Jonathan Rice. I don't like his paintings. Of course, no one has ever done both. That's not the point though. There is no effort for dialogue between the arts, that I can see.

    this guy is overrated. I think people are starting to catch on. No humility. A bunch of other "trying way to hard to be different artists" practically follow this guy around and throw rose pedals at his feet. His technique is nothing new, nothing revolutionary. He's just trying to be different and you all have been fooled. My name is Devin Roberts, I dont give a shit if this pisses him off, ODD NERDRUM IF YOU DIDN'T ACT LIKE YOU ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD, i might consider you to be a great painter, but when you act like your shit is holy it makes you nothing in my mind. How rude of you to treat this lady that way, if I was there I would have put you in your place.

      @otaviomagnani6622 Před 9 lety +3

      devin roberts Why should he worry about doing something new when he's doing something good? Is Schoenberg superior to Bach just because he was new and revolutionary while Bach was much more of a traditionalist? Is Hugo Ball's 'Karawane' better than the works of Alexander Pope? If it's good, it doesn't have to be new.

    a man that writes a book on contemporary representational art called "Kitsch", claims he can do a better job at restoring a Rembrandt (3:20) that should only take him a week to do is without doubt an egocentric head case. by self-deprecating his rep art as kitsch he is merely displaying ego and arrogance. but the proof is in the pudding, i compared his stuff side-by-side to rembrandt and comparatively they are pure s**t, no "master" here but a clever marketing whiz.
