1989 Comanche MJ. Did I get a good deal?

  • Deeper inspection of the Comanche. After an under-hood look, battling a vicious mouse and replacing the ignition cylinder I now have a starting point. I'm thinking this project will now be the 'Mickey' project? LOL
Wonder what I should do with this one? Clean it up and drive it as is? 4x4 swap? Maybe an LS conversion and make it a ticket-getter?

I live in sweden and just bought myself a 88 Comanche. It got rust and a leaking break system, but I'm so stoked to get going fixing it up!

If you are looking for a great resource for tech tips and ideas from other Comanche owners, I highly recommend the Comanche Club Forum. There is a VIN registry as well as a member who can get you an original build sheet for your truck. Good luck, and welcome to the ‘club’. 😊

My first new vehicle I ever bought was an '87 Jeep Comanche. Complete with no radio and a 2x6 rear bumper..lol It was this same color with the "SportTruck" on the side. Unfortunately it had that crappy Pugeot 5 speed that lasted 187k miles before it went out. Eventually found another one and ended up selling it after about 4 years. Sure wish I'd kept it. Best 4x4 hunting/fishing rig I've ever owned.

These are definitely great little trucks. I love the simplicity and reliability. I have a few of those ‘wish I had never sold’ stories too! Thanks for watching and participating!

I think you should put it back original. These are getting harder and harder to find. Thanks for sharing

I’m inclined to agree with you. This is a very complete little truck. While I wouldn’t quite classify it as a ‘survivor’, it’s pretty solid and appears to be a great candidate as a daily driver. Thanks for the feedback!

I got the same truck! 1989 Comanche 4.0, same color Sportruck package , currently restoring it, been working on it for the last couple years, can’t wait to drive it!

Sweet! I would love to find a '91 or '92 4x4, 4.0, AX-15 combo, but with four Comanches in the stable that wouldn't be a great idea right now. LOL Thanks for sharing!

700 is a steal even if it was on fire and no electrical is left. non running with title these sell for 3k minimum. and about 4-7k running. which is crazy because running and driving xjs with title sell for less the 2k where i live

I didn’t get hurt on this one, for sure. I’m fairly certain it will become a bed donor for an ‘88 4x4 I have and an engine donor for another ‘89 2 wheel drive that is in amazing condition. Thanks for commenting!
