- On this week's Driveway Rescue, Eliza and Jeremy head to to help Rick Whitehorn, a retired Marine, get his 1998 Jeep Comanche back up and running! The brakes and steering were the primary focus of this rescue but they were able to get him a few other things like new bumpers!
Thanks to RockAuto.com and Nissan we're able to bring the van full of parts needed to help these viewers out. Be sure to enter your vehicle for Driveway Rescue here. #RockAuto #Nissan #IntelligentMobility

Thank you for helping out one of our Vets. No one group of folks is more deserving of a helping hand. 🇺🇸
I really LOVE what y'all do for our Irreplaceable Veterans!

She’s well fed that’s for sure
all vets deserve this I as a mechanic would have donated my time for this gentleman no questions asked. I'm a mechanic and whenever I have a vet I try and help them out as much as I can. I give a discount as well to show my appreciation for their sacrifice to allow me to do what I do best.
kudos to this lady for not afraid of getting dirty. Everyman wish they had a lady that ain't afraid to get dirty from time to time
I am glad that there are still people out there helping our Veterans like myself this coming from a Vietnam vet was a Security Specialist USAF which I have a 1983 Chev 3/4 ton CK 20 truck God bless America.
Guy was in charge of the maintenance on the M60A1 tank. Here, go change a headlight then disappear until we're finished. I wish they had given him more wrench time.
I don't think he was in charge of the maintenance on an m60a1 considering they have been out of service for 25 years
lmao
I'd rather buy one of these things and get it mechanically perfect than a new 60k ridiculous priced Jeep.
Not a bad idea. I bought my '90 metric ton long bed 3 years ago. They aren't getting any cheaper than they are right now.
Great choice! I currently own a 90 model Comanche with a 2.5 paired to a ax5 5 speed standard transmission. I love my MJ
Rare truck my uncle used to have an 89’. Best jeep ever built the damn thing was a beast off-road and drove great in the snow
Mark323 Let's see the Chinese build a better one of those!!
💪 Merica 🇺🇸🗽
They made tons. How is it rare
art vandelay I haven’t seen one in about 10 years
art vandelay Cash for clunkers program some years back destroyed alot of them I am sure!
@@jonmacdonald5345 .....actually they did....Jeep built them a factory and they have been building the same XJ up until 2010.....that's why parts are so cheap for these.
Come to my house, my 96 Impala SS needs an LS swap...
Or, my 79 F100 needs a QA1 front and rear lowering kit...
Only one reel gripe here. If they had access to, they should have just replaced the wheel bearing while they were at it. Otherwise nice.
Also they should have replaced the trac bar.
jagtan13 I agree. Didn’t see any grease in the axel shafts either.
@@wesleycook6921 they can't be that negligent!
@AstronomyToday No need to downgrade.
At 150.00 a pop for timkens it's not worth it if they aren't bad. Unit bearing on a stock MJ last forever anyways silly kids
So happy when I see people giving back to the ones that served our country, thank you 🙏. We tend to forget those who put their life on the line for us. I work on some machines in veterans hospitals and love when I hear local musicians playing and singing in each room for those in recovery
I have an 88 jeep Comanche and i love it.
Awesome job helping our heroes! They do something a lot of people refuse to do.
These older Jeep pickups are just plain cool.
My dad had a ‘91 Jeep Comanche and that was one of my favorite trucks. The 4.0 straight six was strong but the transmission was a little week. Great truck overall though! Thank y’all for helping this gentleman and I thank him for his service!
I had an '89, I bought new..I sure miss that ol truck. Thank you guys,Semper-Fi !
Awesome you two! Our troops need respect and help in so many ways!
I like how Eliza actually wrenches on the stuff and doesn't just talk and look pretty...
Listen guys im no here to judge your work, im here to say thank you guys, for help the veteran.don't fill bad about the stupid comments, and god bless you guy's
Cool, 😀👍 congrad, on your retirement. Sorry you got hurt. Hope you enjoy your Jeep. Pop a top 😀👍🍺 . Have a great weekend guys.
This was amazing advertising for Rock Auto.. damn.
That's amazing what you guys do to help our veterans thank you so much
3:38 but she already has some opened right next to her...?
Sponsorship I'm sure
Power Nation, you rock!
That was great, thank you for serving our country young man!
Mario Soto I don’t think he’s a young man...
@@lackyparker7799 Who am I to say otherwise or to judge anyone?...The least we can all do,is treat each other as to how we all like to be treated, there is enough craziness out there...have a great 2019,too.
Thank u for ur service
Hot,curvy, and works on cars?!! Goddamn
Indeed!
My Father was in the Air Force and we lived on base. One of our neighbors was Security Forces and had a blue Jeep Comanche. It's the only one I've ever seen in person.
Watched because of Eliza. She’s stacked
bigtime
Love Jeep Comanche can't wait to get one
Good luck finding one!
I have an 88 and a 92 comanche. Both have been fantastic trucks and they are tough to find in good shape because people really used and abused these Jeep pickups. Very capable little trucks for what they are!
Thank you for helping one of my fellow brothers
Eliza, looks like your carrying a sweet fixed blade. What is it?
Thank you for helping our heroes!
Later on that day he sold it on offer up for 3k as a classic jeep and listed it with new suspension parts installed by a shop that costed him alot of money and then later on went to the dealership and got himself a new chevy Silverado.
Maui Boy is this the truth
Maui Boy if your serious lol damn our vet be playing pretty damn smart rockauto got there advertising also the team that went out there an he got a new truck to help him out with carrying around wood in.
AOCLIVE it was actually a joke haha.
Floyd Botts nah brother, its just a joke lol.
Great job guys and hello from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
These are sweet trucks.
Thanks for helping him.
You can take a picture if you want but the best thing to do is to do one side at a time then you can always looked at the other side
Awesome...
I appreciate the help you gave him, but these scripted fake shows are getting worse time and time again.
**👍🏻 For the help though.
Well the Comanche is not a 98, they stopped making them in 1992 LOL. Thanks for putting some more life back in that old MJ, they just don't make 'em like that anymore unfortunately. And thanks for helping out one of our soldiers.
He said 88 its nice
@@DanielGarcia-gb4lq Read the description under the video LOL.
Ooo hooo gotcha
I'm not a car guy.. But thx you guys for helping out one of our own..
You guys are awesome for doing this. I wad subscribed before buy I just hit the bell so I can see all your new episodes. Please keep this going.
Wish they would rebuild my son's 94 Cherokee while he is in the Army.
😢😢i would love if u guyss fixed my comanche im still in school and its hard to work on it
Awesome 😊
Should have installed 1ton steering, but still cool! Good job guys!
Tip for him dont put the push stick cose to the fence place it closer to the blade if you have it to close to the fence you can get kickback
Am I the only one who noticed that they didn’t put the front axle seal?
When they put the dust shield and then the wheel bearing on, you can clearly see their is no seal installed as the shaft moves around in the housing
The actual fluid seals are located right in the pumpkin section on either side of the differential on the front axle. They are actually a pain to replace because in most cases you have to rig up a long section of all thread and some washers and whatnot in addition to yanking the ring and carrier out of the differential. If Jeep was to put anything on the tube ends at the wheels...it's likely to be a small dust shield to slow down dirt travelling down the axle tubes to the actual fluid seals. like Ford uses on the solid front axle Super Duty trucks.
*Eliza* 😍
They didnt clean out that old nasty brake fluid before they refilled it?
Blowin Kk they bled the brakes.
I'm amazed they found parts fo a comanche
Finally a car/jeep girl
Those old Jeep Comanche trucks were tougher than a boiled owl!
Picture taking is fine as long as it was correctly done. Instead get a repair book. Many put the long shoe in the wrong place and route the springs incorrectly. Drum brakes are easy if you know and have the right tools.
Muy bien saludos 👍 👍👍 🇭🇳🇭🇳🇭🇳
Damn eliza knows what shes doing
I have a 2005 dodge Magnum RT with a slight knock still have lots of power not miss runs good but knocking if I dive is 20-25 minutes and it get hot have to let cool for a few minutes to start back up. I have had people tell me it's a rod or a Fly wheel boat any idea what it could be
Heck I was in the Army, when ya coming to rescue my 60 willy's CJ5 so I can wheel in it.
I legit got my ball joint in with a hammer worked fine lol
Dang, where can i find a woman like that?
The thickness is for real
So no alignment ?
Thats what I was thinking, but if you're that good I guess, don't need it ... 😂😂😂🙄
They should have mentioned that it should be computer-aligned to reduce tire wear and keep it tracking straight.
I found you don't need the special tool if you just compress the spring while holding the stud from the back, then turn the stud to lock it instead of the nut.
Also, why DOT 4 in that old vehicle?
Dang she looks good, no not the Jeep😅
if you have a tv or internet show a big truck but no air wrenches lol
Wouldnt let either one of them touch my vehicle
Rock auto hub assemblies are only 30 bucks wtf! Why use old ones
Wounded? PTSD? Running around the woods with a chainsaw in one arm, a log in another, and twisting on old truck parts. I know guys at the VA that can't move an arm, need the help more, but won't ask a person for a thing.
My Dick, yes but not everyone can afford such work. He deserves it just as much as any other vet. If they choose not to ask for help that on them. All vets should be treated equally and deserve the best for their sacrifice. Dont bash someone in need of help cause others refuse to ask.
My father was in the military and there’s a culture of trying to claim disability for just about anything nowadays. There’s Facebook pages where vets go to coach one another on how to game the system. One of many examples I read was. 1 - don’t take a shower for at least 2 weeks and show up as disheveled as possible in order to get some sort of mental illness disability.
I wishes come too Canada power nation rescue my friend 2000 Chevy Silverado
how did you find a 1998 comanche when they stopped producing them in 1992? Proofreading is great!
bob bobson I think he said 1988 1:38
Front end alignment? Oil Change? Tune up?
Why are you not posting new videos of driveway rescue? These are from some time ago. Just like the weekly programs. Same thing over and over again.
Indeed. I remember this episode on TV several months ago...
Nice i have a 88 long bed 2 wheel somewhere down my channel i have a vid of it lol
Where do I start.....
I never thought I'd say this but I miss Ian.
The glasses go on your face not your head.
I've never been able to tighten my unit bearing axle nut with one hand while holding the rotor from spinning. You are a fucking brute.
Everything you did the veteran could have done, but I applaud you for helping him.
They probably did replace the bearings guys if you notice they replaced the rotor which usually requires new bearings they most likely didnt show it.
At 3:40, there's a roll right behind her...
Wasn't in the sponsored script...
The V8 that Jeep put in this truck made it a damn fun vehicle, thing could go anywhere that wasn't under 2 feet of water.
Ahhhh....it's a 4.0 liter straight six cylinder engine...not a V-8
@Rxslinger Yes, but @ 1:45 they clearly state it has an "inline six" and then proceed to show us the engine, which is not a V-8 or even the V-6. I don't know, maybe it's just me but the lack of attention just jumps out at me. Maybe because I own two Cherokees with the 4.0 six, and that just makes me familiar with them, he'll I don't know, I probably shouldn't have said anything.
@@robertcoia130 I know it isn't a 8 in this video, but I'm saying they made a V8 for it, and it was a tank if it had good tires.
@@Error-5478 Actually...No. They never put a V-8 in a Comanche. You might be thinking of the Grand Cherokee which did come with a V-8 option. Then again, you might also be thinking of an older full size Jeep pick up, such as the J-10 , or the Gladiator from the 70's, which definitely came with the V-8.
Has anyone ever signed up for Driveway Rescue before?
Did anyone else catch that, something fell off the Jeep’s left wheel well at 6:45?
Should of replaced the track bar
Two words budget constraints. Probably gotta small budget. Don't forget free labor
looks like a c clamp would work for ball joints??
Umm, forget to replace something in the front? You've spent all that time to rebuild the front end but put the old wheel bearing BACK on?! Wtf?! That's basic mechanicing 101, dont put old parts on when replacing everything, especially on these older solid axle trucks.
Go buy him some wheel bearings and replace them for him. Dont forget to make a video showing you did the work. Then you can talk and post comments
@@MultiCheapguy I have replaced wheel bearings in this type of situation on many vehicles. I was only commenting on a missed step that should have been addressed on a vehicle of its age and amount of time sat and what'm its primary use is. Also I've been a mechanic for 20+ years.
Scott knight don’t worry Scott I hear ya, the dudes just being an ass
@@tundras4ever552 yea there's alot of those around on here lately. Might be time to open up "population control" season lol. Thin the herd out a bit.
@@scottknight1327 does that mean you and cowboy texas are going to get vasectomys?
I'm going to be the first one to say this but those matco rachets are worth about 200dlls a piece and they are being thrown in the ground as if they were harbor freight😥 rachets
Why don’t this damn tv show actually do some for the veterans like maybe build homes for them or something instead of making money off of them
worked on tanks but cant change drum shoes lmao
Anybody else wondering if they actually used the correct bleeding procedure?
7:11 😂
5:31 mmmm asbestos
They haven't used asbestos in brakes in over 40 years. Stop watching CNN
@@genejackson4261 it was mostly a joke hot rod....keep telling yourself that though....before 95 cars still had asbestos and even if it doesnt have it, is brake dust is good for you? NO... a particle mask is like a buck for gods sake lmao
I'm glad it was someone deserving and actually something that is needed Unlike the Detroit muscle 5.0 for the guy that didn't even own a pair of work pants or boots.
Should have hooked him up with a 91+ radiator(the stock closed cooling system sucks ass) or better a 91+ H.O. engine.
She's thick
Great job helping a vet and it's also nice to see Eliza getting her hands dirty we need more women turning wrenches
i have a 88 jeep comanche if yall want to come fix it up..please! lol
DAMN! No ear protection. No eye protection. No chapps.
Dave F XD OSHA approved right? No chapps not smart at all
Ass chaps ?
@@KeithsReviews lmfao
5:55 "if your working on brakes take a picture" if you dont know how drum brakes go back together then why are u touching a vehicle?
@Rxslinger valid point im a mechanic and kind of sarcastic more of a joke than anything
Did they really just put that old bearing back on
No use of brake cleaner????? I don't know Rick
Lift that Jeep
Let's go fill it up with wood! Ok dude, then you need to find something to do for the next 20 minutes!
Should of put new wheel hubs on each side if you're going that far to take apart the axle.
So he was in charge of the maintenance of military vehicles but could not manage the maintenance his own vehicle when he was retired.
