When the family decides to escape house, Omi (Krista Stadler) stays behind to face Krampus.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
After losing his faith in Christmas and tearing apart his letter to Santa, a young boy (Emjay Anthony) accidentally summons the malevolent holiday demon Krampus. The following day, his family awaken to find that a massive blizzard has knocked out the power in their house, and they are soon forced to fight for survival as the fearsome folklore creature and his minions proceed to wreak havoc on the dysfunctional clan. Adam Scott, Toni Collette, and David Koechner co-star in this hybrid of black comedy and horror from director Michael Dougherty (Trick 'r Treat).

I do like this version of Krampus for this reason. He recognizes her and saviors their reunion like two people who aren’t comfortable being around each other but have to meet up.
He then just makes a noise like

When you're whole family is dumb it summon krampus.
I love how they made Krampus this dirty, malevolant creature full of pain. Like just him walking with a limp shows us that he isn't a perfect villain, but one with physical flaws. He's a hulking humongous beast which prays on the cursed. It's absolutely beautiful.
Also it makes it extra creepy that he's wearing a Santa mask, almost like he's mocking the holiday and the iconic figure itself. Whoever designed this costume should've gotten an award!

Everytime I watch this scene it just goes to show you that he really didn't want to kill Omi since she never lost her Christmas spirit.. but since Max lost his, all his family had to pay the price... Including her even if she didn't lose her spirit in Christmas
That is the most BEAUTIFUL COSTUME I'VE EVER SEEN for a horror movie antagonist.....
Also, this SCENE is beautiful, Omi decides to sacrifice herself for her family due to the regretful wish that brought this amazing character to life in this film.

Love how Krampus recognizes her and then goes to his sack as if he's saying "Sorry old friend but I got a job to do. You understand."
I can't get over how beautiful this movie is; the design and practical effects of this rendition of Krampus is just so iconic, and this scene itself with that mood and atmosphere you can just feel the bitter cold. And of course the reunion with Omi and Krampus; it is so bittersweet and sad considering at one point Krampus carried out her wish and now he is carrying out her grandson's and that has to be granted no matter the cost.
It gives me “I’m sorry, little one” vibes.
I would be better off without the crappy humor though.

No the grandma in the film tells the other a backstory when she was younger and krampus could only come from the firewood and krampus spared her life when she was only 7 years old and her parents died.

I was thinking that, when he hauls out the bag, he reaches in, takes out a lump of coal and says, "I've been wanting to give this to you since you were eight years old and you burned down your neighbor's garage. Try to be good next year." Then he pats her on the head, scurries back up the chimney and finishes his rounds for the night. And everything goes back to normal.
He's Krampus. Handing out coal (and kidnapping the _really_ bad kids) is his job, right? ;-)

I like to think Krampus remembers Grandma from all those years to go and almost feels guilty that he has to take her out. I always think when he shows the grandma his bag, he says:
"Now my children, take good care of this old friend of mine."

I love how the choir chimes in as Krampus leaves the chimney, makes his presence and revealing so much more powerful and really helps to drive home the fact that this is THE ancient Yule demon of terror and punishment.
One of the most epic entrance scenes ever filmed! Right up there with the mirror entrance of Darkness in the old Legend movie.
The Grinch was sitting in his chair, planning his next naughty deed against Christmas and Santa Claus, when he suddenly hears loud stomps from above, and then the sound of something moving down his chimney. (Santa?) the Grinch thought, until the growls and rattling chains echoed as the chimney started to creek and crack. Then he saw claws coming through the shadows inside the fireplace, followed by two black horns. He stared in raising horror as the figure before him fully emerged and has towered up, dressed in a torn christmas cloak. The Shadow of Saint Nick had come, *Krampus.*

You don’t really realise it when you’re watching the film for the first time, but the reason Krampus’ face doesn’t move is because it isn’t his face, it’s a mask designed to mock Santa Clause.
Yea I found that out when watching the behind the scenes, I thought it was an awesome detail, they even added a second set of sharp teeth behind the Oldman teeth , they really went above and beyond in this movie even though you can't see the teeth in the movie they show you in the behind the scenes and it really is amazing

When I saw the previews for this movie I thought it would be garbage and cliché. Now, I think it is one of the most beautifully done horror films of all time. This entrance scene captivates what movies should be: Practical, taking their time, and not rushed. This scene alone makes up for any parts of the movie you did not like.
I don't understand, she never lost faith in xmas, so why did krampus attack her? He only attacks those who lost faith in the holiday, she never did, so what justified him attacking her?

clarke griswold The entire family had to pay as a result of Max losing his Christmas spirit. While Omi encouraged him to keep believing in Santa and keep the joy of the holidays, he still lost his spirit because of the actions of the rest of his family. So, keeping in line with tradition, Krampus had to take her, too. Still, I think that her sacrifice and trying to help Max believe in the holidays was why her death (if you can call it that) was way tamer and less violent than the others (swallowed whole by Der Klown, attacked by living gingerbread cookies, dragged up a chimney to your doom, literally thrown into Hell, etc). Also, I thought it was really cool how Krampus remembered her.
I wished Santa claus could like made a appearance or a cameo because if in the universe of this movie krampus exists santa claus exists too

For years, I thought the chains with the bells wrapped around Krampus were just a design they gave him for the film to make him look more cool. But recently I looked up on Wikipedia and found out that's an actual description the folklore has for him. So I like that little touch they still keep true to the legend.

Those toys are dangerous towards bad people but only to protect the old woman and her family and her grandson owes krampus an apology for destroying the letter which is being mocked by other people. I like that character design of krampus. In the old memory of the old woman from the past; krampus has glowing yellow eyes. But in the live-action screen; krampus' eyes are shaded.
