We were fortunate to be surrounded by tons of dry/dead grass that we were able to use... so we never purchased any bails of hay. But the ratio will depend on your specific clary, sand, and water mix. In our case, a typical mix included 1 bucket of clay, 2 buckets of sand, 4 ish handfuls of straw, and the water quantity varied (depending on the wetness of the clay that day).
