It Was Like A Cold Water Indo! - Scotland, UK

- The waves were close to perfection last week up on Scotland's North coast, and this particular break definitely bears resemblance to some of its tropical cousins - they don't call it the "Cold Water Nias" for nothing.
And cold it was.. Even though the sun was shining on this particular day, 6mm hooded suits, boots, and gloves were essential to deal with the water temp hovering around 7°C.

Lovely spot, great footage, looks like the cameraman used a drone.
I wonder what this talk of 6mm suits is?
Bit of trivia, my daddy made one of the first wetsuits, after returning from Barbados to the UK.
He wanted to carry on swimming in the sea ! Unfortunately, I lost the trousers at Polzeath, in Cornwall as, I wore them, and they were too big.
He was not that bothered about it!
I wonder if anyone looked out the castle during medieval times and said "wow, the right hander is cranking today!"
I was just thinking that!!
Yeah like lather your body in oil swim out there n body surf that goodness!
heheheheh good question Pete
They prob thought it was sorcery
It's why the castle was built there..the first Gaelic pro titles were held there in 1209 AD...
What a surreal scene with the old castle on the shore...awesome footage!!
Great waves in Scotland, the coolest scenery!!!
Great video…..so much better to hear the waves breaking rather than some shit music most editors seem to like
That inside section is utterly perfect . What a super barrel. Just think how many awesome barrels went by when the inhabitants of that castle knew nothing of surfing 400 years ago . Wow
Great views! Gives a real nice impression of what surfing the break is like. Salute to The Scotsman up there tearing it up!
What an amazing rip. It's a beautiful part of the world up there off the west coast of Scotland. Got to say, I bet it was pretty Baltic though.. Go visit, it really is the best part of Scotland,
North Coast
Quality waves matched with some quality surfing. Making it look easy but a pretty full on wave. Maybe one day I'll get up there!
I remember in the 90s in N.Z seeing a great t.v news clip on a place in Scotland starting with t . The locals came out of the pub at 11p.m n went surfing on some amazing reef breaks!
Think you're talking about the island of tyree
Love 😍 watching surfing without music more please
What an absolutely beautiful setup. Adding Scotland to my list immediately.
Perfect conditions with a perfect wave this day….very nice
That was amazing.
Wicked waves ,beautiful spot.
Dudes were ripping.
Great camera work.
That's a 10 from me.
Incredible country.
Very nice, good drone work too.
Thanks! 👍
Beautiful! Cold water Keramas with a castle
Great video, some really good surfers out there, and looks like they are mindful of each other, no dropping in.
Always been on my list! Beautiful day.
I love that the Atlantic is taking over as far as best surf.
My heads swimming with all this UK stuff I grew up i
South of Hatteras and knew nothing about any of this until very recently
@@nonow1353 dude I'm from Jersey and I used to hate when I would travel and everywhere I went in the Pacific the locals would always talk crazy. Then they see what you can do and realize that east coast surfers are better then people from other places. For the most part all our surf is beach breaks that when it gets big you better be able to hold your breath and paddle for hours. Or it's barely rideable and you gotta make something out of nothing.
@@mulletoutdooradventures6286 Right? I ad to practice Spanish and paddle out for for a month before I got any semblance of respect in playa negra and northern CR ways and ..finally they are like "que pasando?!. Gringo puedes
surfear?!" Fucking reef breaks? channels? perfect temp? visibility? I don't care how big and burley it is that shit felt little league compared to Hatteras or Shack back in the day. Like paddling around the impact zone? I had to learn how to that, I'm not saying I'm gonna show up at pipeline and blow minds but if I grew up there, it's all just getting comfortable and more fit to scale things up. My brother has been working out of Jersey some and he's all "Bro I didn't realize Jersey was so heavy"...yeah you get a hold down out there in your hood and booties never find the channel because there isnt one.. dodge the syringes (sorry 'stab at NJ there) line one up, commit and actually make one?!?! my bet is you can surf Escondido in anything short of full critical and have a blast.
❄️💦 ALWAYS fun wave... Scotland's version of Angourie 💦👍
🌐 Don't know your itinerary...Sooo do you want to meet up on your tour 💦 looking forward to 🛫🌅🛬...🥂
wow what a wave
Looks sick, ice cold and a Hella drive to get there I'd imagine. Great footage and didn't Look too crowded
Great wave some good droning too 🤙
Thanks for watching 👍👍
Superb video, one of the best I've seen. Drones have revolutionised surf vids but this is particularly good. Makes me wish I was still up there.
Agreed, especially the last part starting at 5:10 where the drone is right on the crest of the wave filming down the line. Excellent work!
I wanna see those water shots!
No place like home. Nice job mate!
Thanks, Peter! One of my favourite surf trips of the last couple of years for sure
Lucky home place
Awesome! 🤙
Sweet!
Beautiful waves and how's the scenery ! Wow. It looks like the waves we get here in South Western Australia. Very nice, l never could surf well in booties but they're ripping it up.
Nice real nice
Nice videography! Looks cold but more than worth it.
Sick waves!! Yewww
Beautiful..
Just perfect, some great surfing. What a session!!! Looks almost balmy.
Beautifully filmed. Had to watch
Magnifiques 🇨🇵🇨🇵
Dude that looks like such a good surf spot
Great camera work I like the different angles and stuff that a drone can show….
0:14 he runs into that other surfer!
You've found Surf-Nirvana, lads.
oh man! it looks perfect
I think I surfed here in 1990 - is that Thurso Castle?
Yes it is
this is such a good video 🙏 the early drone angle was so aesthetic.
i’d love to get into surfing but down in Edinburgh, i think the closest ideal spot would be Coldstream?
Thanks for watching, Paul! 👍
Check out St Vedas Surf shop at Coldingham or Coast to Coast at Belhaven Bay, Dunbar 👍
Hi Paul, if you're new to surfing a couple of tips 1) Get water fit if you aren't already. You can do this at your local swimming pool. 2) Start with a board that's long enough. If your board is too short you may look cool but you won't catch any waves! The size you need depends on your weight and paddling strength and fitness.
Good luck. There's no feeling like sliding down a green face.
hey @@johnswimcat, really appreciate the support 😁 maybe i’ll comment back after this summer with how i’m doing 💪
Isn't there an artificial wave pool opening at Ratho soon?
Excellent, 🏴 God's country whoever she, he, or it is. Check out the pony & long Isles next. Arnol hella hell folk scary 😄
Low tide tubes, high tide turns.
😍😍😍
Great video…these guys have it wired.
They certainly do! Thanks for watching
Looks about as good as it gets right???
Tasty as!
Spectacular waves at Thurso East. The views of Orkney were wonderful. Holbourn Head was crystal clear.
Thurso without insanely strong offshores, nice!
Epic looks like V-land
Epic!
I cannot believe you are surfing in water that cold. If you provided the details of the board and wetsuit manufacturers you might get some sponsorship
That is some break you guys have there! So this is West Scotland coast right?
No, it's the reef break at Thurso East
Northern
Demais demais demais. AMazing!! Epic! How cold is it?
Not too cold with a good wetsuit. I lived up there for three years. Should have stayed there 😢
Wow,always wanted to try surfing and never thought we got some waves to get in to surf here in UK😯Can u please share exact location of this spot? Thanks😊Fantastic video by the way 🔥
Imagine surfing with an old castle out front
Ice Cold Kerama's.
Possible to have a bintang after surf ?
I am from Sydney Australia, love indo and Maldives but that right looks awesome where is it?
Looks like Thurso
No sharks!!!!!! Maybe rocks?
Cornwall go home.
Is this Thurso?
nah mate balnakeal reefs
Some waves look a bit like Lakey Peak.
where in bonny scotland is this awesome
You guy:s are ripping,unbelievable!????
freakin' awesome waves my dudes :D what's the water temp?
In Feb it’s around 7C or 45F
Cold
It's about 5F colder than newquay ok with a furnace suit
Noticably warmer in the summer/ autumn
It's a shame the locals couldn't keep this spot under wraps. No need for the cameras, just go out and surf.
They try but small group want to promote. They are dispised by the majority.
It's no secret.
Surfed there 30 years ago. Even then everybody already in europe knew the spot. But because its cold and for the most part windy it wil never become crowded. No worries
It's been well known since the 80s 😊 If you really want a break with no one else on it try Sanday in the Orkney Isles. Westray looks promising too. Watch out for tidal currents, the Orkney Isles are like a sluice gate between the Atlantic and the North Sea.
Give it 20yrs,the Norse will be speaking Gaelic on the ct podium
Ripping! 🤙💦
That is not like indo!!! 😂 😂 looks fun tho
So sick
🏴🇭🇲💯🏄💪
I think it was King James III who first rode the long boards brought back from one of the colonies he had pillaged.
🤙🤙🤙
Was that William Wallace's 🏰,looks fun nice surf. What thickness of wetsuit do you guys use?
Typically 6mm hooded wetsuits during the winter
@@global_zoo Wow totally cool, that's dedication to something as Great as Surfing 👍.
Mantaaaap
Cold water ketamas
Dunno if i'd be staying in the water with seals around!
They won't do any harm, had one on my kayak once that wanted to gum my boots - probably thought I was a fisherman that'd feed him
Brilliant wave but too small..
Where do those swells come from, the north sea?
From low pressure systems tracking north east from the North Atlantic, past Iceland and over the Norwegian Sea. The swells feed the north coast of Scotland and travel down the North Sea, breaking on the east coasts of Scotland and England.
@@johnswimcat Interesting. Thanks.
I'm Scottish and Love my people, but cold water just isn't my cup of tea
To'ally grrrea'
Anybody know the name of this break?
Thurso Esat
Expat Australian's, has to be 🤣
Is that brimms or thurso?🤔
Cold water? Yes. INDO? Negative.
Lanister castle were midget pumped the maids
which day was that can anyone post a picture or data of the forecast that day.
Nice informative fake video.
The castle was Scotland but not the waves.
It's not a fake Dave, it's Thurso East. Well known as a world class break. I used to live there.
Nessie!
