    A tip to all Journey owners, you don't have to pull the wheel off (though it does make it easier). You can turn the steering all the way to the right and it allows sufficient access to pull the battery.

      I was getting my battery done on my ford. I was sitting in the drivers seat waiting and it took 5 minutes. I was watching the guy across from me doing one of these. He had left the wheel on and turned it hard and jacked it up. i had to wait 10 minutes before they got to me but they were still going on the dodge after I had paid and left. If you built a car like that in Australia you'd become an industry wide joke.

    Arches Mechanic was a very straightforward and clear demonstration with super helpful details, like the socket sizes and other tips to keep it uncomplicated. Also, the best, most clear, camera work; nothing fancy just solid properly framed shots so you can actually see what he is doing and pointing out. Really appreciate you guys sharing this information.

    Just for safety reasons you should always put the positive on first because if the negative is on and you touch a wrench between the position and the body you can get shocked and short out and bunch of stuff

    Hey Dude, I am an automotive mechanic. There is one Health and Safety issue in your video !!!!! You must remove the negative pole first !!!!!! If you don't and you shorten the plus pole to the frame, you have a dead short. Worst case the battery will explode !!!! WHich would be catastrophic.

    The engineer who designed this should get a bonus for tucking the battery in such an awful place. I am sure there should be a better more easily accessible place to put a battery.

  • @curiosity2314
    @curiosity2314 Před 6 lety +3

    Half makes sense for safety, but what they should have is jumper cable shunts in the engine compartment mark appropriately in case you need one. I also would have filled that battery tray with the largest battery I could find and a mid deep cycle battery. Yellow top comes to mind. What is going on with that jack? Jack stands? Daughter next to car with this rickety setup? I have been through so many safety exercises throughout life that now when jacking a car I use double jack stands. I now have a normal set of jack stands and a set of hydraulic jack stands as a backup with whatever I do under the car. No I'm not overly cautious; safety is paramount. These are kind suggestions.

    • @ArchesMechanic
      @ArchesMechanic  Před 6 lety +2

      This is actually the original battery that was in the car new. Pretty good life for a cheap battery nowadays. The one I threw in was a temporary until my new one arrives at the part store. As far as the stands....you're right. in the first minute of the video all 4 tires are still connected. As soon as I removed the tire the daughter went and played in the yard. You can probably hear them in the background haha. Working on getting around the same setup. Two floor jacks and two jack stands for redundancy. Can never be too careful.

  • @jawzzybuppa3234

    yes it IS a stupid place for the battery, but once past that, I had to have an AGM and the only one I could find in Canada in group sizes 26, 75/86 was an Odyssey for almost $500cdn plus $100 shipping. There were many other sizes at around the $200-50 range, but not the one I needed for OEM measurement's of 9 1/16" L x 6 13/16 W x 8" H.
    So I found a group 35 that would fit perfect, BUT it's a right hand positive, and Journey's need a left hand positive. I thought of buying it and just turning it around, but this one had downward indented posts and I didn't think the add battery monitor on the ground would clear it enough. Then I found a group 34 at Canadian Tire with very close measurements of 10"L on the bottom, 6 3/4" W and 8" H. I had already measured the battery tray and figured it would work, so I bought one. In the end it took a "little" bit of adjusting, but I got it in nicely! I had to remove the battery handle and sheer off the holder for it on the ground side. Then I cut the rounded corners off the battery tray with a grinder in seconds, painted the bare metal and the battery fit in perfectly. The only other issue I had was getting the battery in WITH the top holder in place already (couldn't get it in after). So I tied a string to it from above and held it there in place while I put the battery in it's place. The battery terminals were never an issue as I found a nice place to push the positive one up in place out of the way and it held both of them up out of the way very nicely :)

    10mm = 3/8" and 13mm = 1/2" MAYBE. 1/2" is actually a little bit smaller. I saw one of these being replaced today while I got another battery in my ford. I had to wait a while before they got to me and they already had the dodge half apart and still didn't have it finished before I left.

    However putting in the cables is a REAL struggle. The positive terminal (closest to the outside) is fine but holy cow, that negative is refuses to get a solid latch.
