Sridhar Katakam's Bricks Links: start.me/p/MbxMGe/bricks-links

If you're new to Bricks, you're probably a bit confused and overwhelmed by the huge range of add-ons you see everyone talking about.
So in this two-part series, I'll help you understand what's out there in the world of Bricks add-ons. Think of it like an overview map of the Bricks add-ons landscape.
I break the add-ons down into logical categories and then for each category, I'll explain what the add-ons are, what they do and why you might want to use them.
This isn't a comprehensive list of EVERY Bricks add-on. Go here for that: start.me/p/MbxMGe/bricks-links
I'm actually going to be highly selective, picking just the ones that I think are quality and are well worth your while.
Apologies, Core Framework also has a plugin to let you manage your framework in the WP admin area.
-3 credibility points, I don't mean to sound rude but how are you able to miss that bit of information?
@@sevenelvenyou failed, you do sound rude and a bit of a knob. Who criticises an apology on a free video
Ha haaa. Harsh, but fair. I’ve even used the CF WP plugin before on a project. 😅
Great overview video Dave! Very thorough without getting lost in the weeds. Tough to do, but that’s why you’re 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Thanks buddy! I really appreciate that. I know you can relate. 🙏
Dave Foy. Legend.
I'll take that.
It's always a pleasure watching your videos, Dave. And I'm a paid subscriber of your trainings. :D It's always fun and never boring. I always learn something new. Every time ;-) So I thank you, Dave Foy, for creating these informative videos.
Aww thanks man! I'm so pleased you like them. 😊
purchasing power is not the same in all countries. Even it is not the same for a single coutry during few years for reasons like high inflation rate or sanctions or ... Also the business models and income models are different all around the world... so when someone put his price so much higher, without any difference for dofferent countries (like most of the time) he loose to get many new cliebts in those areas. Also because new people buy his product at new price, he close the doors to himself to refuce the price in future.
I hope (mainly) the Bricks developer think about this.
And I know that you, Dave, has the dynamic price system related on the coutry of your customers, which is soooo good. 🎉 congratulations for your character and personality.
Thanks man. Yeah, differences in purchasing power is a big problem. I'm not sure there's a perfect solution, but I try my best. 🙏
@@DaveFoy Too bad ACSS and Frames do not have PPP based pricing. Really pricing out some good market potential like India I think.
Let's look at it from the other side! Nowadays you can make money with web design worldwide.
So if you do well, you could get jobs in Europe or the US and very easily get $2,000 to $10,000 or more for a website, which is extremely big money for you.
Inflation goes both ways. You only buy products once, but you can sell your services constantly. So I would say that you have an advantage here because the same amount of money is worth significantly more to you than it is to me in Europe. Think about it ;-)
In addition, PPP is often abused with VPNs and at the end of the day the creators no longer make any money from it.
We put an incredible amount of time and passion into the development and support of ACSS and Frames! but at the end of the month we also need our wages to feed our families.
@@tobias_haas Thank you. Yes you are right and it is possible in action. But I want to mention that it is much harder for many reasons like language and quality of communication that impact the TRUST level, not having any international money transfer system and have to find complicated and unstable ways to get your money and this is impact the TRUS too because many people may not want to pay to another names and companies.
Any way I hope I can manage all of this in future. Do you have any suggestions for this?
The world is unfair. Just accept it, and don't seek justice. Yes, many will simply abuse VPNs while living in Europe and the USA. From Russia today it is not just expensive. It is impossible to pay with a card, international systems do not work here. And interbank is hard and expensive at the same time. So don't complain, just take whatever you can find for free. And pay whenever possible.
Top notch as always Dave. Great video! CSS Framework + A well made template/component library for it = smooth sailin'🤩
Thanks Brendan, my friend! It's crazy how good we have it nowadays.
@@DaveFoy this comment made me smile, because you can tell when someone has been building websites a while. I say the same kind of thing all the time. It’s also very true - very good times having access to such amazing tools 😎 They really do enhance the experience. I can remember starting out many years back, when even hand-coding seemed cutting edge to me 🤯
@@RobSaville Hello fellow old timer 👋
Thank you Dave, a nice and comprehensive overview, clear and to the point. My favourites are ACSS and Frames, because of the reasons you mentioned in the video. Looking forward to your next 'performance'. Cheers
Thanks LJ!
Looking forward for the second part
Excellent coverage, as expected. Thanks. I'm full on with ACSS and Frames.
Glad it was helpful, my friend.
This video was amazing, you really opened my eyes to what a couple of great plugins can do. I can't wait to watch the sequel.
Thanks!
Excellent! Thanks, Matt.
I'm already in hehe.
I ALWAYS use ACSS + AT and some layouts.
By now, I have:
- Frames
- BricksMaven
- FancyBricks (specially 2.0)
And yesterday I bought Brixies and is amazing!
I'm very, very, very happy with my new workflow with Bricks Builder, instead of "the old" Elementor one (RIP).
I am interested in Brixies and in BricksMaves (do not use ACSS)... also the devs of bricksforge are making one...
Absolutely! No comparison with battling against Elementor.
I enjoy using ACSS, Frames and Bricksmaven. For sure a time saving combo.
I love Core Framework and Brixies
Bricksmaven or Brixies - which is better in your opinion?
Beyond awesome! I chuckle every time you say "opinionated" as it's truly the perfect adjective! I'm squarely in the Geary camp because of the attention to detail and super high quality of his products. You will get an immediate ROI, likely with the first site you build using them. The other wireframes you mentioned are better than I expected and I'll be checking them out for my toolbox. Thanks for this, Dave. I'm looking forward to part II soon. Now let me go refill my pint...Cheers!
Thanks Jim. I appreciate that! And yeah - the ROI of a good framework + template library is insane. What a time to be alive eh? Cheers! 🍻
Great video - again! ✨
I use ACSS with Frames. But I am also interested in Brixies, because of its library and copy & paste feature, which reminds of Relume for Webflow. I really wish Frames will use the same approach in the future.
It's a sweet feature. Much easier than browsing using the Bricks template library. Although Bricks 1.9.8 caches the remote library which might at least improve things a little.
A well crafted and perfectly delivered overview round up. Has really helped guide me through the overwhelming choice of addons.
Glad to have helped. Thanks, Jason. 🙏
Nice guitars👍
Ha haaa, thanks.
Brilliant timing, I was just weighing up Frames v Brixies. Looks like I'll be taking the Frames route due to the tight integration with ACSS 3.0. Cheers Dave! 👍
Nice! 🙌
Fantastic video and amazing production quality. Thanks Dave!
Thanks my friend!
Great job as always. Thank you!
Glad you liked it, Scott! Thanks for commenting.
This is great stuff, Dave! Thanks. I look forward to part 2.
Awesome, thanks Matt!
Excellent video Dave!
Thanks buddy! Took a LOT of thinking to figure out the best way to include Advanced Themer in this series. I dunno, it's pretty simple really isn't it? But I know people get a bit tied in knots. My advice: just buy Advanced Themer! 😎
Thanks Dave. Another brilliant video. Fast-paced, full of excellent information, well-produced, and entertaining to watch. Appreciated!
Really glad you enjoyed it, Larry. Thanks my friend.
Top vid mate - keep 'em comming!
Thanks Grant. I'll do my best. :)
Such a good explanation from such a great teacher. Fully recommend Dave's Bricks course. Bought it last year and am still go back to it whenever needed.
That's so good to hear. Thank you. Can't wait to release Build With Bricks 2.0, which as you know will be a brand new remake from scratch. And you'll get it for free. :)
That's just amazing Dave. You're so generous and good to your customer base. Thank you. 👌
Core framework is managed from the backend of the Wordpress website. Not from on their website. So no need to copy and paste css.
Of course. Thanks Sam. I've added a note to the description and pinned a comment.
Great video as always Dave!
Thanks so much, @KshitijShah89 🙏 I always appreciate your support.
Such a useful and timely (for me at least) video Dave. Thanks!
Glad you liked it, Manolis. 🙏
Just got the email to watch the video I am watching right now… Dave Foy always predicts what you need to do next.
Your videos are very good! Thank you for the teachings!
Thanks Alan!
Professional video presentation 101.. Love your content.
Thank you so much.
Great video Dave! I haven't had much time to look into the differences between Core Framework and ACSS, you explained it, simply and perfectly.
I purchased the Bricks Extras LTD and always deploy that as part of my blueprint.
I'm one of those you mentioned who built all sections from scratch and used Bricksforge for CSS variables. I do see a huge benefit with the ACSS and Frames option in terms of speeding up workflow and consistency so will seriously consider it 👍
Nice, thanks Mark! Yeah, BricksExtras is superb. It features in part 2 of this series.
Excellent video Dave 👍🏻
I am a huge ACSS fan when it comes to frameworks. As someone who has been building websites for 20 years myself, I really appreciate the power, speed and flexibility it provides. Kevin and the team have done a superb job with it. I jumped on the lifetime license the second I saw it. Plus it’s only getting better with v3.0 😎
Also love Frames and BricksMaven and I can personally recommend those too. I hadn’t heard of Brixies prior to your video - it looks really great and I will definitely be checking it out.
Looking forward to your part 2 now 😃
Thanks Rob! 🙌
Very very nice video. Thank you very much for this.
You are most welcome.
OxyProps (BricksProps) is also a powerful framework for Bricks and Oxygen. It is similar to ACSS and less expensive. A new version is also coming soon.
yes
Yes I know BricksProps, tried it on a project probably about 18 months ago. Development seemed to have stalled, glad it's coming to life again.
@@DaveFoy it was almost stalled for the developmen of structizee (something like this) a tool for wrtite html and translate to bricks (I explained it really bad... but is interesting)
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video and a thousand other things you do to help! This was fantastic- can't wait for video 2, and for Build With Bricks 2!
Also--your humor is so on point, and much appreciated! I laugh out loud often - makes the learning so much fun.
Aww thanks Lizzy! I thought of you when making this one actually. Took aaaages to make - turns out it's quite hard to boil this all down and simplify it all!
I swear I don't try to be funny. 😂
@@DaveFoy I bet!! It's quite hard to learn without someone boiling it down and simplifying things-You've saved me a lot of tears and discouragement. Raging fan for life. Thank you again!
Great video Dave (as always). I am using ACSS + Brixies.
Good choice 🙌
Another great video, Dave. Please show "lots and lots of more examples of Frames" please!
Thanks, Ros! Yeah, it definitely helps to have a lot of examples with Frames. I will do. :)
Your videos are always entertaining, Dave, but you have taken it up a notch or two with this one. Excellent and very relevant information.
I don't have a framework yet, I'm waiting for the new version of ACSS to become available, then I'll purchase that and Frames, although Brixies would be a very close second for a library.
Can't wait for the second installment.
3.0 is out 🎉
Excellent. Thanks Philip. 🙏 ACSS 3.0 is now in beta. Still not quite ready for production sites, but you can definitely grab it and use it. :)
@@Gearyco Sorry, poor choice of words. I know 3.0 is out in beta but I've never used a framework before and I don't want to start using ACSS when there's a reasonable chance some things may change. I'll get it as soon as you give the green light for it to be used on active websites.
@@philippepperell9951 It's greenlit for non-live production sites. Keep in mind that the framework of ACSS has been proven across thousands of sites for years. What's new is the interface. The actual workflow, variables, classes, etc. are all figured out already and that's all perfectly stable.
Bricks + ACSS & Frames + Advanced Themer.
This stack is study as a brick shitter!
Love that: "study as a brick shitter". Gonna get that printed on a t-shirt. :)
That’s my go to stack! Love it
Great video Dave now I just need to make the leap and start using Bricks and a framework!
It's the way forward!
@@DaveFoy I’ll get a playground set up and have a play!
Nice video and overview comparison. I am so happy you provide PPP pricing on your Bricks course I am thinking of investing in it. Also I wish ACSS + Frames had PPP - I have Core Framework For Bricks plugin and Advanced Themer license so wish you have included these in the course in future. Thanks again!
No worries! Yeah, the whole parity purchasing issue is complex, but I do the best I can. I hope it helps. 🙏
@@DaveFoy between Bricksmaven and Brixies - which one has an edge in your opinion?
Many thanks for a very comprehensive and valuable overview. As a side note, I think many would benefit (myself included) form a tutorial on BEM. Cheers.
Already on my list. 😉
Top bombing DF.
I don’t think the Core Framework add-on is required. I’ve been using Brixies and just had set the Core Framework variables in my custom code in Bricks settings (although imported natively in 1.9.8 beta with the new variable manager) and using Brixies Core Framework templates has been perfect. 👌 So just a note because you mentioned that the add-on is required but I don’t think that’s really true as that is only there for the UX of a variable selector and such in my understanding.
Good tip, thanks Dustin. 🙏
Thank you Dave, great. I wonder, what about Happy Files. You haven't mentioned it in the pdf. Is it outside this collection of addons?
I was 50/50 about Happy Files. Everything else on the list, even if not directly a Bricks add-on, is something you use *with* Bricks in some way. But... I can definitely see its utility for organising templates, etc. It may works its way into part 2.... :)
Great overview Dave. Can you get both of those libraries pulled in via bricks templates? Just a huge pain going to 3 places each time to find one you want
Thanks! Frames and Bricksmaven - yes. Brixies - no. They don't appear to have this in the pipeline either.
Quick question Dave. In the video when you swap the accent heading to the top with order -1, you do it on the the .fr-accent-heading class which come in with the frame. Is this the correct way to do it or are you meant to create a seperate class?
Good question. I did it on that class because I'll always want that accent heading to be first. But in reality, I might rename all the Frames classes anyway (using ACSS's auto-BEM feature), and then work from there. I always have the ACSS > Options > Builder Settings > 'Import Original Classes (Bricks Remote Templates)' turned ON, so if I re-import the template again, it'll have the original Frames classes.
@@DaveFoy Thanks Dave, Great overview. I had a good idea of the workings behind ACSS and CF but am also more informed on the template libraries. Still himming and hawing about ACSS but am really tempted, especially when you see how well it works with Frames, and others asit seems. I'm going to do Kevin's 101 on ACSS 3 which, if I am correct, comes with a sandbox where we can follow along.
Learning a lot in the last 7 months of Bricks life.
There sure is a lot to learn!
Brixies does the same with padding and all that stuff like Bricksmaven right?
The same? Meaning, uses an ACSS space variable for padding values? I show that in the video.
@@DaveFoy I totally missed it, sorry.
No worries!
Bricksmaven will also work with Oxyprops for Bricks.
Yeah, Eduware introduced support for Oxy/Bricksprops less than a day after I released the video. I've had words with him. ;)
What happened to Cwicly?
It's dead. cwicly.com
@@DaveFoy 😔If you don't use Woocommerce, what do you use when you have to create an ecommerce?
Very short explanation, to 3 very feature rich plugins. Something very important, information is missing, how much weight does the plugin ad to the page?
My advice to people that are interested in using any of this plugin would be to take at least 1 hour for speed testing different frameworks and plugins.
There are differences around 250 ms.. which is a lot. For example, some sites that are built with a Gutenberg plugin, take 250 ms to load for the complete site.
Here, just installing the framework add alone this weight.
What makes not much sense to me is that 95% switching from Divi or Elementor because the page loads to slow, take months to learn a new builder ( in most of the time the new site still looks not very good) invest +1000 € into new plugins and end up with a page that load very similar to for example a site that is built with Elementor.
Good point, @Sascha.Hauser. 🙏🏼 However, ACSS adds a very small extra weight to the page, especially when compressed. And the CSS is cached on first page load. That’s more than an acceptable trade-off for me, for the massive efficiencies and benefits a framework brings. Building and maintaining a website in the block editor is a miserable experience, for a few extra milliseconds gain.
Surprised to see in 2024 same ol basic templates w no style or modern flavor
ACSS is good framework, but I am annoyyed by developer he can promote his framework, but he do it annoying way, he is like I am the great, I am great others are not..and alisha thomas enters in every chat.. arguments
I use core
I wouldn't let my opinion of someone deprive me of a good product. I don't like Elon Musk at all, but I still would buy a Tesla when the opportunity comes.
@@dahunsi thats what i said ACSS is good framework
Oxyprops for Bricks is what I use and it's VERY good. Worth taking a look at. I especially like the right click ption that gives you access to the styling. Not need to remember the variable names just right click and choose.
I haven't used Oxyprops for a while, development seemed to stall. Isn't it quite heavy on using utility classes for styling?
@@DaveFoy Hello. Oxyprops is CSS variables first (hence “props” in the name). The framework offers plenty of utility classes because users ask for them, but my recommendation is to use only a few of them, and mainly use props in custom classes. And development did not stall, but I am working on a major update, so there are no big updates to the current version.
Nice. Thanks for the clarification and update. 🙏
