Around this time Kim Wilde was the opening act on Michael Jackson's Bad tour in Europe.
From the looks of it the live and behind the scenes footage in this video was filmed here in Berlin. And I was actually there in that crowd. ;)

In exactly the same spirit, with fabulous synths, I cannot recommend warmly enough Kim Wilde hits such as NEVER TRUST A STRANGER, CAN'T GET ENOUGH and WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE. You'd lose your pants, out the door and through the window, over these 3 gems, Dereck, you can trust me. Keep up the good work and take care.

Brilliant song from one of her most successful albums. The baby that this was written about called Marty would be Kim's nephew, named after her and Ricky's dad Marty Wilde, who is also a famous singer.

At last Kim Wilde again, it was worthing it.
Yes, "You Came" is one of her 4 unavoidable singles (with "Kids in America", "Cambodia" and "You Keep Me Hangin On") and like "Kids in America" in 94, this song had a second life being the lead single of her album "Never Say Never" in 2006 (joined by "Perfect Girl", "Together We Belong" and "Baby Obey Me").
If you still interested in Kim Wilde's universe dear Dereck, I have a super news for you. She finally released the long awaiting singles collection "Pop Don't Stop : Greatest Hits" on August 6th 2021 and, it's not because I'm a fan that I say it, it REA-LLY worth it. Super Hits, forgotten gems, underrated singles... absolutely everything. The best of her 13 studio albums on only 2 cd !!!
The compilation is still not on streaming, you have to get the physical album if you want to listen to it. But I garantee that you will like it. (and it's not so expensive compared to other singles collections released these last years).
To conclude, I encourage you to go straight to "Pop don't Stop : Greatest Hits" and, in case you still hesitate, here is a little list of songs I believe you'll like :
    - "Love Is Holy"
    - "Rage To Love" (super 60s vibe !!! )
    - "Pop Don't Stop" (of course)
    - "I Can't Say Goodbye" (The strings are pure gold)
    - "This I Swear" (Yes, a r'n'b ballad but honestly, this song is a diamond)
    - "Together We Belong"
    - "It's Alright" (yes it's a cover from East17 but she litteraly ruled on this song)
    - "Lights Down Low"
Happy new year and keep going !!! You're doin' a great job !!!

I always thought this was a very cute song. It's incredibly poppy and sounds VERY 1988, but Kim manages to make it memorable. Chequered Love and View From a Bridge are two Kim Wilde hits you really should react to. Chequered Love is particularly great - it has a really frantic pace and the video is super fun. Never Trust A Stranger is also a bit of a stomper,. From the 90s, Love Is Holy is well worth a listen.

A really good one. Very 1988 and a good competitor with all the SAW productions around… l actually loved the less poppy Hey Mr. Heartache better… and the four letter word. But Kim is so likable and cute.

Dereck, loving that you've finally picked this brilliant Pop/Rock Queen, she's simply the best, and unfortunately as an American, you probably know nowhere near as much as you should about her music. In fact in a world of underrated artists and criminally neglected back catalogues of brilliance, she tops the lot. Clearly her music was always too complicated for America, that can only handle country, disco, power ballads or trash metal, but it's lovely to see you veer suddenly to her (not least when the omnipresent talent-free show-off hag Madonna and the better but no genius Ms Minogue are on the wall behind you, and what an insult to put the great ABBA right next to the world's biggest and most empty hype machine (Madogga).
But back to Kim, I'm loving your reaction to this pretty song, but it's only a small representation of the fantastically varied but always great albums and songs she put out, especially in the 80s where, before the 90s ruined everything, creativity and imagination were at the fore of musicality, even in the mainstream quite often, and it's usually only the mainstream one bothers with. Kim treads both worlds perfectly and if you think this song is great, you ought to check out the astounding Eastern sounding ballad 'Loving You' that has so many classic instruments on it unexpected for a pop record (French Horn, Muted Sax, Flute) and the most sensual wording and delivery. And even most Americans should know it as it was relegated shamefully to B-side and not double-A with 'You Keep Me Hangin' On', the biggie everyone knows. But I can go even further. That 'Kids' song getting her started with its rather flat chorus in no way hints at the amazing things to follow, and indeed when Michael Jackson asker her to open his "Bad" tour, she'd already done several albums in between the massive gap between "Thriller" and this; in fact she'd already shared a stage with him when she received her Grammy in 1983. And, criminally, her most ignored stuff, is all her career-best stuff. 'You Came' is lovely, but it's relatively easily put together for the easy mainstream of 1988, mind you many could still not do it. But check out the super-catchy suicide song in 1982 'View From A Bridge', the jazz/swing sexy as hell strut 'Love Blonde' from 1983, with the most amazing song EVER by ANYONE-'House Of Salome'-done in the switchover from '83 to '84. Killer intro, energy to spare, evocative, original, the most breathless, dangerous sax break ever in a song and a killer abrupt roar of an ending. That's another thing, her songs are never predictable, and certainly not in the 80s. There's threatening spookathons like 'Dream Sequence' (referencing among other things, the Native Americans who lost their land to the white man), creepy 'Child Come Away' which you also got to hear and 'Shangri-La', one of the first songs she ever wrote herself completely and produced AND played keyboards on that Kate Bush would kill for. 'You Came' is lovely but there's a beautiful ballad called 'Four Letter Word' another top single from that same album. At least in 1988 she was allowed to be all over the singles charts, even her own country treats her like crap while loving banal trash from America (hello, Mandonna) and even others from Kim's own country. Across Europe though she holds the record as the woman who sold THE most records across all of Europe, despite many difficulties in the uneven balance of the pop world, and has a Bambi Award to show for it. She even has the best B-sides of anyone to, and still releases fascinating music when she feels the sporadic need. Basically I'd implore you to look up ALL her stuff. If you think the pretty 'You Came' is multifaceted, you should hear the far more kept obscure ones through no fault of their own, but they all have her trademark melody, hooks and beautiful singing, and unlike desperate tramps in the industry, she has killer looks without the need to flaunt them, so glad you picked up on that. In a world where mostly woman just sing icky love-songs and break-up man-bashing crap, Kim has used so many differing angles, and doesn't even use that standard fading with choruses all over and singing over every little musical passage, Her stuff, always in collaboration with her super-talented brother (Ricky Wilde) is pure proof of that, which you'd get from any song whatsoever. Go explore her-now!

And the Shep Pettibone tweak is, if possible, even better. Just ups the production slightly making even more grand. Bigger drums and more soaring synths.

I used to go to a club in Tempe Arizona when I went to ASU and when this song came on, I would get on the pillar and dance my ass off.
