    I'm surprised you had little to no knowledge regarding Sigma's warranty/repair procedures. It's the same as Canon's, you send it in to your local Sigma facility. You also didn't mention that Canon lenses comes with a 1 year warranty whereas Sigma ART lenses comes with 7 year warranty. With that much of a length of warranty, you technically don't need to pay for a "membership" to get discounted repair rates. You also forgot to mention that Sigma ART lenses have the ability to be calibrated in your own home with the Sigma USB Dock, while Canon you'd have to send it in and most likely pay for this service. These would most likely be deciding factors for most people making their purchase and I'm surprised you left these out.

      Thank you both for the information I know it’s a year old but have to purchase a 24-70 and debated between Sigma versus Canon and now knowing it has a 7 year warranty definitely getting the Sigma.

      @@challenger2724 warranty plays a huge factor in decision making. And as far as sharpness. It’s really not that big of a difference.

    Good review, I also own both lenses and unfortunately the Sigma's OS is practically non existent. It really borderlines on false advertising. Especially since that is the most compelling reason to buy this lens other than price. Another very important factor not mentioned is the Canon lens focuses better in low light. A condition most wedding photographers find themselves in. Also, on higher megapixel cameras the Canon Lenses noticeably sharpener.

    • @tylerherrinton
      @tylerherrinton  Před 6 lety +2

      Great points! Thanks for leaving that info. As I was just testing the lens for video primarily I didn't dive too deep into low-light focusing, but that's definitely something to be aware of. I agree with the OS, it's very subtle.

      Are there any updates that help the image stabalisation performance? There shuld be 2 modes for stabilisation.. It would be the perfect lens if the IS would be good :/

    canon
    the pictures looks warmer
    and the shadows brighter

    Thank you for this review. Just one thing that I wish you did was having a handheld video test for the Canon lens. Sure, you wouldn't have anything to compare to, but it would have still been nice to see.

  • @PromoMoviescomau
    @PromoMoviescomau Před 3 lety +5

    Great Comparison Tyler. I have the Sigma and love it for video. I've used both lenses and I think the Canon is a tad sharper wide open, but the OS makes all the difference for video IMO, and therefore makes a better choice for video shooters. If I was a photographer first, I would buy the Canon. Have had several Sigma Art Lenses, and they are built like a tank - super heavy duty.

  • @genesung5589

    Great review as I'm torn between these two lenses for video. One point I disagree on is the Image Stabilization. I turned the audio off on your test and showed my wife and her friend (Who don't do videography or photography), and immediately they said the shot WITHOUT IS was much shakier. I have to agree with them that the IS make a very noticeable difference. But once again, great review and thanks!

    • @tylerherrinton
      @tylerherrinton  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks Eugene! Glad the video was helpful! The IS definitely does make a difference, I guess it's just not as effective as other IS systems I've seen in Canon lenses. You can't go wrong with either lens honestly!

  • @AJFOJASFILMS
    @AJFOJASFILMS Před 6 lety +3

    I'm still so torn between these two lenses. Given that the OS on the Sigma is negligible, would you consider the canon still if the price differences were closer, like within $100 dollars closer in price?

    • @tylerherrinton
      @tylerherrinton  Před 6 lety

      I prefer Canon lenses most of the time, so yeah I'd probably lean towards Canon naturally. Also because of CPS and the fact that the Canon is cheaper. Honestly you can't go wrong either way.

    • @tylerherrinton

      The AF quality should be about the same on the mirrorless if you're using the Canon adapter.

    Hi Tyler - do you still recommend the C100 as a video camera - I was looking at a GH5, I do event photography and video with 2 D750 cameras but want a bespoke video camera. I still haven't been asked for 4K. PS - I dropped a Sigma lens here in the UK had it fixed easy and fast no problems

    • @tylerherrinton
      @tylerherrinton  Před 6 lety +1

      Hey Mark, I definitely recommend the C100 if it fits your needs. I love it because of small file sizes, long battery life, built in NDs and tons of pro features. But if you're looking for 4K 60p, 10 bit, or just a smaller form factor the GH5 is a great option. It all comes down to what's important for you. But as a standalone video camera, the C100 is my go to!

  • @mohammadkarimsaleh840
    @mohammadkarimsaleh840 Před 4 lety

    Good explanation! I think some people will think that as the Preis of Canon is high than Sigma, its Quality will be also high than Sigma. When they are same than why the Preises are different. I think this is the Point why some people prefer Canon lens.

    I'm a bit surprised that you marked down the Sigma lens down on maintenance. If you had done a bit of research to see what Sigma offers in comparison to the Canon Professional Services & found out what Sigma actually offers is complete garbage, I would say that is a fair enough reason to mark it down. However considering your only validation for marking down the Sigma is because you haven't done any research into it seems like a bit of a poor reason to mark it down. Personally I own a few Sigma Art lenses including this one which I absolutely love & I have sent them for maintenance, each time very impressed by the speed services & professional results. Prices are reasonable if the lens was out of warranty & the standard of work carried out was superb.
