How to Balance KClO3 = KCl + O2 (Decomposition of Potassium Chlorate)

To balance KClO3 = KCl + O2 you'll need to be sure to count all of atoms on each side of the chemical equation. Visit www.Breslyn.org for video guides on balancing equations and more!
Once you know how many of each type of atom you have you can only change the coefficients (the numbers in front of atoms or compounds) to balance the equation.
Be sure to add up all the K, Cl, and O atoms (there are four on the reactants side). This is a common mistake with this type of reaction.

- Never change the numbers after atoms (the subscripts).
