      He was feeling it when he finally released and I suspect that bit of shaking he was experiencing from holding so long is why he hit a bit back. Just happened to release when the shake was going that direction.

    • @patrickoelschlager441
      @patrickoelschlager441 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Diffidentone Na I think he hit where he was aiming, just misjudged the quartering angle. Happened to me several times. Shakes might have been part of it but if you misjudge that angle on a quartering to shot especially at close yardage and steep downward angle it's really easy to get into guts. The guts and liver extend further forward the lower you get, aim a little higher for up-close elevated shots is all. I've goofed this up a handful of times, same exact-scenario: close steep-angle shot, one lung/liver/guts/lots of anxiety, dead deer. Managed to catch the heart and the guts once in the same shot, just a weird sharp angle

    • @patrickoelschlager441
      @patrickoelschlager441 Před 3 lety +1

      If you puncture the diaphragm between the chest cavity and abdominal cavity that deer is dead, at that point it's just how long to die and not goofing up the recovery. Pretty sure they can't recover from an internal sucking chest wound like that

      It is difficult on CZcams. There are a lot of anti hunters who will report your for being too graphic and get the video demonetized. Is it helpful, yes. Is it wise, maybe not.

    Many years ago, I shot one the exact same way, near lung, liver, and front of stomach. I swore he was broadside, but he was slightly quartering to me. We found him, but it was a very hard tracking job. A lot of people don’t realize how much of a difference the slightest angle makes in bowhunting. It cannot be stressed enough. Glad you guys found him, but even happier that you spent time talking about the shot. That helps people.

    different frame of mind. youre shooting heavy, you can move your arrows forward without fear now. let that Iornwill do what it was designed to do.

      for sure, should've just drilled him when he was standing still with the heavy setup, Greg is still the man though!

      Matt Finney I see a lot of people lately taking very unethical shots. Just because you have a heavy arrow doesn’t mean you can take a bad shot angle. I shoot relatively heavy arrows but I still wait for a good angle and limit my distance. A lot of inexperienced hunters these days are shooting heavy arrows and taking bad shots because they think the arrow is magic.

      @@jasonwandling4203 at 8 yards there is no bone in a 2.5yr old deer hard enough to stop 550+gr with a solid 2 blade. The shoulder was a good 10" in front of his entrance hole. It's a hard thing to unlearn the weak projectile things we have taught ourselves the last 25yrs since the introduction of carbon shafts. Ive shot probably 20 deer exactly like the shot in this video. Rushed or didn't realize the angle, and even though 3" behind the leg should be good but it's not. Im personally just tired of it. Between bloated early season mass crop gorging and human errors im no longer aiming behind the leg, im planning on going into the vital V. There's nothing more ethical than that.

      Jason Wandling well....according to the Tooth Fairy (Ranch Fairy) heavy arrows are magic. No different than TSS in shotguns.

      Dustin Apple I have always aimed right above the leg. I’m seeing a lot of people lately however shooting straight on chest shots and hard quartering to shots, extremely long shots etc.

    Congrats. I like the tip Greg mentioned about taking a photo of where you last saw the deer, I usually take a compass reading but now will do both. If I remember during the excitement!

    I know you guys decided to shoot fixed blades as a group, but watching this show over the years is the #1 reason I will stick with my mechanicals. I see so many of the bucks you guys shoot run FOREVER and a day, even though it was a good shot.
