I spent about half an hour trying to find the person you were talking about, and I couldn't for the life of me find the person. I feel so defeated, but I understand that I don't know the tricks to researching for theories. But shoot, this is good and I wish to understand.
I know this is incredibly late at this point, but watching these videos, I've noticed something important in the images. The one time we see him without gloves, he has a plaster on his finger. If I'm not mistaken, there is a belief of using blood to call upon the supernatural. If he made a deal with the devil, he either would have had to shed his own blood as part of a ritual to summon him, or possibly to seal their Faustian deal. That cut on his finger then becomes another piece of evidence that he is working with the devil.
Someone else pointed the finger thing out - There is some sort of ritual or something about cutting that exact finger. That person also pointed out that the golden bull would not be a representation of the calf, but of another God I think. I really blanked out on it, but it has been explained.

You know while this might seem nit picky I just have to do it because I studied Faust for almost half a year in my German class:
The devil in Faust is actually not THE devil, case in point: his name is mephisto (mephistopheles). He is more like a head of department of hell. Lucifer (the actual devil) is never referenced in Faust.
That being said the theory is still incredibly cool

MATPAT YOU MISSED TWO MASSIVE DETAILS!!! Sorry got a bit excited, but I noticed two things you over looked that "flesh out" your theory. First, the neighbor has green eyes, which would mean little unless you noticed the green apples he has in at least two of the promotional pictures (the kitchen shot and the Devil costume.) Green is the color of envy, an apple was used to temp Adam and Eve, and in this context the neighbor is tempted by the Devil through his envy. That would explain the blowup doll and capture of a woman who has a baby. The second detail is the birds in two of the pictures (the grave with the neighbor looming over you and the picture of the neighbor holding a butcher knife.) Because the birds are all black with a yellow beaks they are either starlings or blackbirds. Starlings are mostly solitary so we can assume these birds are black birds. After doing some brief research of my own I discovered that blackbirds symbolize the temptation of flesh in the Christian religion. These seem like some large details that I thought you would find interesting, happy hunting.

To be fair, the Bible is a part of "real life" even if it's just a religious text. He is taking facts (verses, passages, references, etc.) from it. They may not be factual in the way that they actually happened, but they are factual in the way that you can open a Bible and find what he's talking about. They're accurate points, we'll just have to see if it really is coincidence but it would be a lot of coincidence if it's not.

In alpha 2 when you barely go into the basement you see the shadow man (devil) , and remember about how you said there was a family trapped? The shadow man could possibly be murdering them. That is why the woman (mom) says, "RUN!" So there is my theory.

i want to predict that there actually is no one being held hostage and that in the end the whole thing is a trap and you become the one that is sacrificed.
That's why we see that shadow cast by the human cutout in the end of alpha 3.
But with all the times you barge into his house, you'd think he'd just take you as a hostage immediately as he catches you

MATPAT I MIGHT HAVE A THEORY:
(spoiler warning for alpha 3)
So, if you have played alpha 3, you would probably see some photos on the walls of the neighbir's house. These photos show a man, his wife, and their child. Very weird, huh? This makes me think that the neighbor does have a family. However, they seem to be dead (maybe because they got into a car crash).
At the ending of alpha 3, you can see the neighbor crying. Maybe he is crying because of the news of his dead wife and child. If you look through the keyhole, you can see a shadow. Maybe that shadow is the devil. It is possible that the devil told the neighbor that his family could be revived. However, it comes with a price. The devil told him that he must sacrifice a certain amount of people. So that's where the game starts and we break into the house of our neighbor.
BUT HEY, THAT'S JUST A THEORY, A GAME THEORY!

I don't get why people think this. It would fit so much more if the woman and kid were HIS wife and kid. It would make far much more sense and fit better as well.
1. If they were working at a circus and abducting people surely he would have captured more by now?
2. The neighbour is immediately with the wife and kid and has their deepest trust, so he would be way more likely to catch them. Seems way more likely for,it to be people who have his trust than 2 random ppl to also be a woman and a young child to be there, when we have evidence for a woman and child once living there as well and not ever seeing them. Just fits better.
3. The reason he is sad in the alpha 3 mini game is because the devil has forced him to harm his loved ones. Sociopaths (he must be considering what he is doing) can occasionally feel empathy for those deeply close to them. For it to be to random people that he has no bond with seems extremely weird for him to be crying about.
So what's his motive? I hear you ask. We don't know yet. But matpat said that all these people who had seduced by the devil had expected a reward for it. After a while, neighbour feels regret and sadness after he realises what he has done.
I like how I am the only one asking this...
How long has the Player character been out for?
Think for a second for those who have this version get a good look at the whole house, Looks pretty standard right, no Roller coasters or anything. Now look at it when you wake up again. It got majorly extended now hasn't!?
I'd say it's been waaaay too long for it to be an hour long nap. I'd say we have been out for atleast a couple of years to a Decade or so at the very least. Unless our Neighbor dude has stashed billions of dollars for this day, I doubt he has the money to do this in a couple of hours I'd sat it take him a couple of months 4 - 5 at best to get all the add-ons Added on.

You know that picture when the neighbor is reading Faust? There's a shadow. And like you said, he's working for the devil. You said that when the devil gets what he wants, Faust DOESN'T get what he wants. So at the end of Alpha 3, when you look through the keyhole, there's another shadow that looks like a mad scientist and the neighbor is CRYING. I THINK that this is where "faust" (the neighbor) doesn't get what he wanted so he starts crying.

So, I have a theory.
As you know, int he Alpha 3 ending, the neighbor is crying. Now, there are two doors. You can peek through both of them, and the first one has *half a QR code.* There is another hidden door where you can see the second half of the code! It has been translated by many people, and it says:
"Can you see it? Remember 1003063, I had to hide it, they might find out."
Through the other door, you see the shadow of a man with spiky hair. You know where i'm getting at. That shadow is the devil himself. The neighbor was making sacrifices inside his protected basement, away from his family, *he had to hide it, they might find out.* He couldn't let them know. But, as MatPat said, if you make a deal with the Devil, you'll get a big reward, but it will not be for long. The neighbor's reward, in this case, was his enormous house. Tick tock, death clock, time is up. The Devil has come to collect his part of the deal. *Can you see it?* That man behind the door took all he had. Now you may be wondering, how do I know if the neighbir lost his house? Well, pay attention to the details of the room we are inside in the ending. Three large windows reflecting light from outside. We *never* saw that room in any of the alphas. Any of the houses. We aren't inside his house - he doesn't have it anymore. He fell into a trap, just like his prisoners, and now he is getting payback.

Totally different, all the other stuff was removed in Alpha 3. So it's pretty much just a killer-- that's the other part. Alpha 1's split teddy bear and murdered family, combined with The Neighbor crying and a mysterious figure standing there. He has to be the murderer, right?

Not to say that the neighbor is not satanic or whatever xD But the shadowy figure is the dam player xD if you have played pre alpha or watched the announcement trailer then you should've noticed that the shadow is the same as on that picutre. Btw I noticed that the ''shadowy'' figure in the back has this gray and white chess color on his hands and a bit on his legs. So that means that the old player model didnt have a texture xD and one more thing it is actually pretty hard to see your shadow in pre alpha but if you go to the furnace room or use a flashlight then you can see your shadow clear lels.
I'll admit, this game seems pretty interesting. but I really REALLY hope it doesn't become the new FNAF.

Here's my hello neighbour theory: Here we go!
So it all starts off with a family of 6, the neighbour, his wife and four kids. During the car crash we see in the act 1 death cutscenes his wife and one of the kids dies. Two of he's kids witness this and run away from their father (the neighbour). The evidence supporting this is the simming posters in act 1. 1 boy, 1 girl. The last kid is locked in the basement after the neighbour finds out that the other 2 kids escaped. You witness the neighbour doing this and no something's up. You investigate because the kid who was locked up is your friend. When your locked up in act 2 the neighbour has either starved the other child or he/she escaped. It is possible that she was allowed to roam around outside though: hence the trampoline. When you escape the neighbour seeks revenge...
In act 3 the neighbour is your landlord but he evict you in one last attempt to finally capture and destroy the final piece of evidence in the death of his family. You come back to see the neighbours house gone in the game: but this is a dream. The neighbour fails to capture you once again.
So yeah that's how I think that hello neighbour goes.
P.s the neighbours wife is a teacher, hence the teacher mannequin from alpha 1. Also the devil and all the religious theories have no bearing on mine.

The neighbor is not a "bad guy".
Let's go back to the gameplay section where you access the basement:
MatPat described the sign saying "Hide Here" as a laughably simplistic trap, but what if it wasn't? What if it was there to immediately inform people where to hide if something bad were to happen? When you go down to the basement you hear a woman shout "RUN!", see shuffling shadows, and the room is empty. Soon after the neighbor himself enters the basement and then enters the "hide here" room and shuts the door behind him "long enough for the player to escape".
Now if we assume the neighbor is a good guy and the "hide" room is essentially a 'backup panic room' then the neighbor would enter it after hearing "RUN!" for two reasons:
1. He wants to make sure the woman and child are ok. (goes in to check on them)
2. He hides in the room for his own safety.
Since there are two beds, one mattress and one crib, combined with the fact that you hear a woman's voice and a baby's, suggests #2 is correct. The woman was not shouting "RUN!" to inform her babbling baby or herself, but rather the neighbor (she mistook you for a more dangerous invader). The reason why the neighbor is constantly barricading and booby-trapping his house, the reason why his basement is a fortified safe-room with an additional safe-room inside of it, is because himself, his wife, and his child, are being hunted by something. If we assume devil-magic is actually involved it wouldn't be hard to imagine that one of them made a deal with the devil and now said devil wants his "pound of flesh".
They're being hunted and while the wife and child hide in the safe room the father takes the risk of being out in the open in order to better protect his family. A deal with the devil might also explain how he can afford to make these ridiculous additions to his house and get away with it (suburban neighborhood associations can be rather strict). It's also possible he can afford to stay out in the open because the hunter-demon is more interested in the wife and/or child rather than the father.
Also, in order for this theory to work the hunter-demon would have to be the type that has to enter a premises manually rather than just teleporting into the family room.

Perhaps his allegiance to the devil is more of a "know your enemy" type of thing. I mean, the imagery is clear, and it falls in a recurring theme of fiction: taking gods who were demonized by the Church and just associate them with demonic deeds. In this case, the golden-bull, who happens to be Baal.

What if the neighbor, from hello neighbor, isnt a bad guy in total. what if he made the deal with the devil, in an attempt to get his wife, who is tbought to be dead, back after she died. at the end of hello neighbor, alpha 3, if u look through 1 of the doors in the end area, u see a strange shadow, a man or woman with long, spiky hair, standing t posed, just out of sight. what if this is showing what happened just before he made his deal with the devil. hes heartbroken. and willing to do anything, in order to get his wife, and in all possibilities, his kid back. now, this is all a theory, but it seems semi logical.

Zdawg_ 02 here's my theory.the neighbor was working at the factory u can find when u hack in alpha 3. His kid if he had 1 but most evidence can show that he did, was at the high school. While the neighbor was working the kid managed to get hurt. They took him to the hospital u can find in alpha 3 with more hacks and the kid died. They buried him in the church due to hacks of course. His wife, which he probably had due to all the evidence and pictures and manikins, commuted suicide before they buried the kid due to she being to sad thst her kid died. When they were buried the neighbor went to the golden apple market(due to hacks of course) in alpha 3 where he managed to find and sell his soul to the devil to bring back his family. The neighbor kills people and keeps them down because of the end of his bargain where he works for the devil. The blood price I like to call it for the dead people. The suffering for those alive in his basement. All this to return his family but our job to save the people trapped down in his basement. But we're also monsters. Because we're stopping him from bringing back his family. But it's a theory. A game theory

I have some speculation on the setting of this game, but first, a few questions.
Why does the neighbor only drop you outside of your house when you've been poking around? Why doesn't he call the police? They don't have any evidence and can't legally search, but they may very well get it if you continue snooping. Why doesn't he kill you until you open the exit in one of the Alphas? Speaking of the exit, there are a zillion other exits in that house, why does only _that_ one have a sign? Why is that one so special? What's on the other side of that wall? And why does it seem to lead to different places between Alphas?
Why does he bury you in the yard _alive_? In his backyard with a grave marker. Seem a strange and risky way to quickly dispose of someone who is causing you trouble. He'd have to have had the grave already dug, and a coffin already on hand! Wouldn't someone have noticed?
Probably not, as you appear to be the only two people in the entire neighbourhood, and now you may see where I'm going with this.
You are already dead. Likely in Limbo, struggling to redeem yourself or just trying to pass through to where you're "supposed" to be.
More support for this theory, is that in Alpha 2 (or 1 or 3 I don't remember), the key at the beginning is dropped by a crow, an omen or messenger of death.
How the hell did he get that wonky, Weasley house built, and why would he do that if he is trying to avoid attention? Why the carnival games? Why is his house set up like an adventure puzzle?
Why so many windows? _Your_ house doesn't have so many windows. Is it some reference to the saying "eyes are the windows to the soul"?
And why aren't you interested in settling into your new house? Wouldn't that be something you'd do _before_ breaking into your neighbour's?
Given how irrational the neighbour's actions are concerning secrecy, what with the construction of the house, his willingness only to kill you when you've done sufficient digging, and his method of execution, I feel pretty confident saying that you're dead.
There are a few more things preying on my mind: why is the only thing of note hidden behind the cage up the stairs a gun? Why does the neighbour have so many moving boxes strewn all over his carnival fun house, even though he clearly had enough time to set up a math class and sadness baby room?
Why was the neighbour crying by the crib at the end, and do you think that the spiky haired shadow was Nu-Jesus? Was this Jesus actually kind of a douche? How and why exactly did the neighbour betray him? They look very similar; are they brothers?
Were you the spiky haired shadow man? The player character has a different nose than the neighbour, but he has the same chin and eyes; are you the neighbour's son?
And, if MatPat is correct, what was the deal that the neighbour made with Lucifer, and why?
