It's time to get INDIE! Today I'm taking on the indie game YOU have been requesting the most -- The Binding of Isaac. WHAT DOES THIS GAME MEAN? This is my favorite game theory Matpat has ever made even to this day. Here's me hoping that one of the final 9 game theories will be coming back to discuss The Binding of Isaac now that the game has seemingly finished its story. I wish Matpat and the new generation of theory hosts all the best.

Honestly this theory makes sense with repentance true ending if you think about it, after escaping the chest and his house he looks for his father, finds it and tells him the story he made and everything that happened, his father helped him to finish it and the stuff happening in true ending happens

4:30 - I actually have a personal anecdote for this reason. I used to have things like pictures and toys be taken away from me because of (insert punishment/religious/evil reason here) only for them to forget the whole thing and let me replace my disposed belongings with "new" things.
It wouldn't surprise me if Issac's mom let him draw new artwork or gave him new toys to use as a leverage to punish him.

After beginning tboi, and returning to see if a theory has been done.. I didn’t expect this old intro to hit so hard
Fun fact: this video traumatized me 8 years ago.
Now, with Afterbirth+, I think we can change this theory a bit. Isaac died in the box, and he felt guilty about everything. Only with death he could accept how he was, and move on. His body was found in the box, but he never felt so free and alive, while people thought he was missing, actually, he just found himself.
Also, I think his mother started acting like that because of his father. It is shown in the new ending brought with the Afterbirth+ that she was crying and burned Isaac's father from all the pictures.

Watching in 2023 and looking back post repentance and how huge fnaf has gotten, I really appreciate how reasonable Isaac’s story still is. We’ve gotten tons of elaboration, but the story stays the same at heart. The delirium ending shows a kind of purgatory space and the beast ending gives a more vague heaven sort of thing. (To me, I interpret that as him ascending to whatever ideal afterlife their is after reconciling his religious guilt, I.E. dogma and the beast.) Either way, the mother ending and ascension sequence mainly serve to flesh out isaac’s story, and strengthen the emotional core, making the beast ending specifically really emotional. Compared to the fnaf story, it’s branched out and expanded so much to the point that there’s not much emotion left, if any at all. It’s mainly just answering questions for it’s own sake, at least in my opinion.
Would love to see a new video on this tackling all the new info, characters and endings that are in repentance. Please have another look.

this was uploaded 7 years ago, and this has been a theory I've been coming back to and watching again and again for years. Its honestly kinda just a take back because I remember when this came out, it's honestly just a "why am I getting old" moment
Alright, if you want newer information on this theory, (I will be using what I’ve seen from repentance) no, Isaac is not dead. It is revealed that the entirety of the game is a story that Isaac wrote, and that his dad is reading to him.
Edmund confirmned that Isaac is dead a while ago, the Beast ending is just to show how important Isaac's dad was to him I believe, anyways Isaac suffocated in his chest and the Delirium ending implies that he's in Purgatory.

I think Isaac is religiously traumatized. He went through so much and he believes it was his fault because he sees himself as a sinner.

I believe it was trauma from being taught Christianity in the wrong light. I mean Abraham killing Isaac? That's not a biblical story you tell to a child because it is difficult for a child to understand. You don't raise a Christian child through fear, but with love. Showing the love of Christ. My parents tried raising me through fear of God, and it did traumatize me for a long time and I stayed away from faith for a log time. Then someone showed me the love of Christ, the love of God, and I realized the life I had been missing out on for almost 19 years.

No but the name meatboy and how everything instantly hurts him like a man without skin. The game is an examples of the trials that he felt willing to go through to get his bandage girl back to protect him from the pain of the whole world.

Meat Boy is constantly open to the elements and that's why he needs Bandage Girl. She covers up those injuries. She completes him." So, there is a reason it's a cube of meat. Hey just a quick thought that I thought I might share cause it might be true. I got bored and decided "I'm gunna go look at medical illnesses". Since this game has a true final boss, Delirium, I looked that up. When I read what delirium is and what its conditions are, I legit got chills. To name a few, Hallucinations, forgetting who you are, and forgetting where you are. Since Isaac blames himself for his parents divorce he started taking his mothers pills(one of the ways to get delirium is drug overdose/withdraw) and have major panic attacks(this can also cause delirium). The end of the cutsceen shows a drawing on the wall where Isaac is drawn as a demon amd standing on his dead parents(delirium can also cause random outbursts of anger/violence). Shoot, there is even a screen that can show up when starting a new run that says "who am I?" This would also explain all of his alter-egos. Just a quick thought I wanted to put out there and see if anyone else agrees or thinks this might have a sprinkle of truth to it. (Also if Isaac truly does die, delirium can make the person who has it more prone to death)

OK here's another look at this. Reading your theory i had a thought what if he has DID( Dissociative identity disorder) he has a bunch of other personalitys that he has no idea exist but in another personality he eats his mom's pills and gets delirium after eating them every time he switches to that personality. the mom thinks hes being possessed when ever her son switches to a different personality or her son is a sin crawling on her back because one of his personalitys is a girl so she thinks her son is trans so she thinks its a sin. the girl identity has short blonde hair and the nary wig looks like her hair so one day she switches in and has to go to school but all the other kids don't understand the condition Isaac has and make fun of him for looking like a girl. If you've seen the cut scenes it looks like his mom gives him the wig but my way of looking at it is it was Isaac's birthday and one kid who understands Isaac's disorder gives him the wig for Mary as I'm going to call her and then the school thing from before happens. so to recap Isaac has Dissociative identity disorder and delirium. he has at least 2 other personalitys Mary and someone else. the unnamed personality eats the mom's pills and overdoses while the mom is away or the mom finds out and forces him to stop causing withdraw. Mary goes to school get a friend and the friend finds out about the disorder so they buy Mary the wig for her birthday. After all of that one day the mom comes in from making dinner but Isaac hallucinates and sees his mom holding a about to kill him so he hides in his toy chest but as he sees it a trap door and just hallucinates the whole game. for ending 16 i think its him thinking hes messed up so bad hes just a demon so he accepts it and smiles for the first time in a while finally thinking he has an answer. ending 13 is pretty similar to ending 16 but instead of accepting it and being happy with it he feels like a failure to his mom to his dad to everyone hes met. i just hope he gets some help like Jesus save this kid!
This would make sense, as he knows certain pill effects like paralysis, he knows mom has a pill bottle so it would make sense he took some
The overdose makes sense cause all of the pills in his imagination like he knows about the overdose but doesn't cause of delirium and the other thing
Even though this is old I have to point out there is literally an ending where Issac hyperventilates in the chest while getting memories flashing back to his photos then back to his scared face each time getting more blue until he’s just a pile of bones… This is probably why there is a blue baby to begin with, the pile of bones is blue baby.

That final is the delirium ending in afterbirth plus (sorry for poor English )

@@blackrabbit8420 no he doesnt. The forgotten proves that isaac can not ascend. His soul is tied to the pile of bones. In that ending we see isaac wandering in purgatory.

Yep. I hate it when someone just says the word religion in a video and people start saying stuff like "Religion is for retards who can't think for themselves" and stuff like that. (Most) Christians can respect the fact that some people are atheist. I can't understand why (some) atheists can't respect that other people are religious. They accuse religion of all these terrible things and hatefulness, when they themselves are being hateful to religion.
