#reactionvideo #drumteacher #faithnomore - Hudba
Bordin + Gould so criminally underrated.
💯👌
"Crack Hitler" is one of my favorite bass lines.
My favourite drummer. Hits hard, unique setup, unique style.
King for a Day Fool for a Lifetime is an album I listen through at least once a month.. It just works!
YUP!
'Just a man' alone is enough to justify. But also cuckoo for caca, star AD, ricochet, gentle art of making enemies, take this bottle, digging the grave. There's just so much flavors to love.
This is the thread I wanna be involved in. That album rules!
One of my favourite albums for sure. All the different style songs work so great together.
One of the best albums ever with such a range of musical styles
Mike Bordin is on of my all time favorites. Phenomenal musician
💯👌
"Epic", "War Pigs" and "Caffeine" helped convince me of that.
can only focus on Mike Patton, an absolute god
So much respect for a drummer who not only acknowledges the amazing drummer in the band but the genius singer. If this is the only song you’ve heard be FNM check out the whole discography. Mike’s as well. It’s insane!
Bordin is so good. His playing on Jerry Cantrell's Degradation Trip (with Metallica's Robert Trujillo) is phenomenal.
Ohh that’s cool! I didn’t know he played on that one.
Huh? Jerry Cantrell, Robert Trujillo AND Mike Bordin? I'm going to have to find that.
@@OswaldBatesIIIEsq Yep -- on a *double* album.
Mike Bordin hits so hard. I’ve always felt like his style was more forcing the drum set to do his bidding than anything else. So underrated. Also, you need to go back and really listen to their albums. Faith No More influenced so many bands. “The Real Thing” came out in 89 and made a huge buzz.
.im a huge fan of alot of 90s and i like faith no more . i have got the usual ...angel dust and the real thing.but really hadnt thought about him much ..other than his hair lol. but yes hes damn good!!! screaming trees is my all time favorite band and i think gary lee conner, their guitarist, is in the same boat...so good but so unmentioned..
Love Bordin. A great example of how a drummer can use tone, feel and chops to add musicallity and do much more than just keep time. The whole song is driven and punctuated and structured by Bordin. Genius stuff.
Puffy is one of those drummers that you'll know who it is in the first few bars he plays - such a unique approach and style. It's a bummer that there's no dedicated drum cams of his playing.
Andrew, if you want to take the FNM plunge, listen to King for a Day, Fool For A Lifetime front to back. One of the most stylistically diverse albums ever that you'll ever hear.
There used to be a drum cam video of him playing the song he did with Ozzy in the studio on CZcams, but it was taken down years ago and I haven’t found it since.
@@cjonesufc this one? czcams.com/video/dho4f-5YNuU/video.html
Is it true that Bordin played flat foot on the bass drum?
@@cjonesufc he toured with sabbath for a while years back. I'd have loved to have seen that.
The reason he plays the 8ths on the hihat pedal so consistently is: he flams everything. Pretty much all his rudiments and accents are flammed.
He's a beast
I love this drummer !
Big toms! 14x13 15x13 16x16 and 24 kick
Bordin is a master at his craft. Saw him when he filled in for Korn and also with Ozzy. Definitely a powerhouse with groove!
There's video of Mike Portnoy in a recording session playing cross-handed with the ride next to the hi-hat and it looks comfy enough, it makes me wonder how the ride on the opposite side of the hat became the norm.
Andrew thank you so much. What a fantastic analysis, you really went in depth into Mike's unique technique.
I just love his fluid no nonsense solid ( fluid and solid at the same time lol) drive! .
Thank you to everyone who has interacted with me over the years. Such a supportive and diverse community!
Peace love and hugs ✌️❤️🤗
Hey Springy. First of all, good to hear your getting better, bro. Got 2 family members with neurological conditions and it's a long journey that's for sure.
2nd, great song choice. My brother is a drummer and he loves FNM too. He would play Woodpecker from Mars and their cover of War Pigs and drag me in to listen to Mike absolutely being a beast on the drums.
Keep on keeping on, Dude 🥁✌️
Great episode Andrew.
@Mark Long Thank you so much Mark for the wonderful comment. I'm very much charging forward and loving life. Who'd have thought I would actually look forward to going to work every morning? It's amazing how 2 years off sick can change your whole perspective. In other good news I'm going for my first jam session since my issues hit, this week. I've had to learn to play bass again from scratch and I'll be drumming again for the first time in 2 years.
So much to look forward too. I Hope I can remember how to play.
Thanks again Mark, peace and love brother.✌️❤️🤗
GREAT pick Springy! So glad to get to Bordin!!! 🙌
Faith no More is in another level, and is not only the keyboard, is the mind to make absolutely crazy space of music and songs that are in en 11 over 10
He was phenomenal even in his earliest days as a drummer in faith no man.
Top 5 drummers of life easily. Top 3 even...
Great drummer did an excellent job filling in for Bill Ward on the 97 Oz Fest gigs!
Faith No More were one of my biggest bands growing up in the 80s/90s. I saw them live on a couple of their concerts. As a drummer I was always fascinated by Mike Bordin's style. He frequently plays drum parts that didn't fit the regular 4/4 style of rock drumming. I read in an interview he was heavily influenced by reggae and African drum beats, and this shows in his style. I tried to replicate this in my own band at the time. A great recommendation.
"Take it from our drummer, "Puff"
Being good it gets you... stuff"
Mike Bordin I saw him with Ozzy Osbourne Great drummer Great pocket and facility and also a powerful player Great choice Til next time
Absolutely rocked with ozzy. Live budokan . Maybe Andrew ( if you're seeing this could check one of them out? 🤞
One of the craziest bands ever... I'm not sure how can one even focus on one of them during live performance. There's always something happening: if it isn't the guitars/bass, it'll be the keyboards, or the drums going mad. And on top of that we have the 10 000 different voices and expressions of Mike Patton. Just crazy.
Watched them live during the reunion tour several years ago. Absolute madness.
Yup plenty of ability and creativity on that stage
Great band but "One of the craziest"? Are you kidding me? Frank Zappa, Gentle Giant. Mr Bungle, Focus and many other bands are more crazy than Faith No More
For drums alone, 2 of my favorite FNM songs are jizzlobber on AngelDust and woodpecker from mars on The Real Thing. Youve got to check those two out.
I listen to woodpecker from Mars (and play - not on drums yet :) ) almost everyday
Always loved how he jumps to the bell of the ride during aint bleeding enough for two
Bordin is by far one of my favorite drummers...im sure being a huge FNM is part of that
The "Angel Dust" album is well worth the deep dive; hell, any of their albums are, that one was just at the forefront of the brain. Puffy's great, got his own style and used to jam with Jim Martin (the guitarist featured here) and Cliff Burton (formerly from Metallica) when they were younger. Would love to get a Mike Bordin Yamaha signature snare, very interesting half-hammered shell.
Angel Dust is such a good, good album. Their maturing sound, moving away from The Real thing/Introduce Yourself, but also the last with Jim's very unique guitar. Bands are lucky to have one member with a unique voice - with FNM there was three, Jim, Puffy and Roddy's insane bass playing. Angel Dust to me is the ultimate lineup.
He is “The real thing”. Love that album 👍🏻
There is so much going on in this beat. I'm learning it now; it's a great independence exercise. Maybe one day I will get it to speed.
Faith No More.
Best
I know I am definitely late to this video, but Mike is a beast! Open handed drummers are in a league of their own. Simon Phillips, Billy Cobham, Carter Beauford show just how versatile you can be playing open.
FYI...Faith No More admits to being heavily influenced by non other than the great Black Sabbath. They've even done a cover of War Pigs which is actually quite good.
Mr Patton not so much. I recall an interview where he said that Easy was introduced to the set as he wanted to pi$s off people who wanted War Pigs by playing a
" cheesy " pop song.
Quite good???😄
I feel FNM's version of War Pigs authentic as the original...
They own it!!! ❤
Finally
Faith no More and Radiohead strike me as bands that followed the art more than anything. Great role models for art/expression/culture.
Brilliant. The angle and height of his rack toms is ridiculous!
Oh yeah ! Love me some Faith No More and Bordin is the bricks and mortar of this band.
SO GOOD!
Big Band ! 🔈🔉🔊🎧🎸🥁🎹👌🏾😉👊🏾
Mesma pegada dupla. Em cima um ritmo e em baixo outro. Ambos no folk country hard punk rock.
FF: Mike Bordin, Jim Martin (FNM) and Cliff Burton (Metallica) were all in the same band - E Z Street, while still at school.
Puffy taught me so much as a teenage bedroom dummer. Got to meet him after a show here in Dublin - total gent. Shout out to the genius use of Simon & Garfunkel ‘Cecilia’ sample too! 🤘
I love a lot of drummers, and a lot of drummers amaze me, but if there's one player I could play like, it would be Puffy. His drumming is unique, monstrous, clean, and filled with emotion.
FNM...my favorite band ever. They are all extremely talented musicians. Sad they never reunited again.
Reacting to one of my all time favorit bands while referencing to another of my favorit bands, i’m in for sure 🙂👍🏻
I know this is a drum video, but my favorite thing about Patton is you listen to the album and think they're using all sorts of effects on his voice until you see them live and he does it all in mic. Every now and then he'll do something weird like pull out a bullhorn and sing through that, but it's all done for real.
Yes Patrick. Super vocalist
Hi Andrew,
I wouldn't say it is the keyboard,
rather it is Roddy. On keyboard... 😉
Thanks for bringing attention to my favorite band since I know them ❤
I have Mike to thank for my strange playing style, right handed & copied his set up but found it hard playing beats led on the floor Tom, so I switch to play the kit left handed, my arms were essentially doing the same but I had to train my foot on the bass drum.
excelente baterista y banda. muy original y peculiar en su forma de tocar. un abrazo grande!!
Saludos!!
Glad to see Mike getting some much-deserved accolades!
have never given these guys a fair shake ,(me bad ) liked
this a whole lot.
And finally a explain about or why the mighty Ringo
is as unique as he IS ,Thanks mate .
The intro percussion is sampled and based on Cecilia by Simon and Garfunkel 😂 No joke.
I saw Bordin and Robert Trujillo playing live with Ozzy in the late 90's it was amazing. Specially when they played War Pigs.
Excellent!!!
Same... was the first time seeing Puffy. ozzfest in june 1997 At old mile high stadium. It was one week to the day after my 21st birthday. The ticket was a birthday gift. Had plenty of cash for merch and even bought my first pipe (that I still have).
Our seats were 30 yards away from the stage. And it's a time I will remember forever.
One of my favorite drummers. One of my favorite bassists (Billy Gould). One of my favorite bands (#3)
Left handed and plays on a right handed kit. That's one of the things that makes him so unique.
Like Ringo 🤘
Carter Beauford does this too
Left handed drummer here, I also play open handed and have my ride on the left. So I'm glad you mentioned this! One of the main things is it makes it easier to set up at a gig, you can just play the righ handed kit without having to move it all around.
I saw FNM 4 times and Mike Patton alone with Fantomas!! Mike Bordin is not the usual drummer ,has is one style, almost horizontal Tom Tom!! It’s particular 👍🤟🤟🙏
This is how you play, PERIOD! Beat the holy piss out of the set!
So true, the intro really is kinda like a stripped back No Excuses
Yes Christina!
Listens to a Faith No More song for Mike Bordin's drumming...Ends up talking about Mike Patton's Vocals for part of the time...
I would like to claim this is surprising but I really can't. 😂
Yup!
Bordin is an ensemble player. Patton is a freak show
You don't like keyboards? Roddy Bottoms is a saint.
The entire BAND is boss!
YES
You definitely need to get into Uriah Heep. You may have already heard Lee Kerslake drumming on Ozzy’s first solo records, but even so. Recommended you go for something from when Gary Thain was on the bass: he and Lee were fearsome together.
If you are a bit sketchy about Patton's vocals from this performance, then check out their actual studio album versions of these songs. It's a LOT more clean and professional from him. Mike live tends to.....well, fuck around I guess is a good way to put it, especially earlier in his career. There is a live album they did, Live at the Brixton Academy, and Mike sounds REALLY drunk at that show, so the quality can be....meh in my opinion. And this is from someone who considers FNM one of his favorite bands of all time. Patton's vocals ARE amazing, and one of a kind, but I personally think he shines much better on studio work, where he's focusing on actually doing a good performance. Epic, Angel Dust, are 2 amazing albums for all categories of the musical structure. Highly recommend them. Don't let this live performance turn you off his vocals, they are legendary for a reason.
I see more talent in his live performances. He kinda restricts what he does in the studio to have a cleaner sound
@@AdamJFields *shrugs* the live performances I've heard are a mix of bad quality audio, and Mike just going all weird/drunk with his vocals. I don't find those very good examples of his actual range, compared to when he's trying to take it seriously in a studio. Or at least not during the young Epic/Angel Dust days. Maybe his more recent stuff, in his middle age, is more subdued, and he's not crawling around on the floor and barking, like he was want to do at this time in his career.
I don't play drums. Many of my favorite musicians are drummers though. I always wanted to learn just didn't take the time or had the stones to pursue it. Weird huh? Anyway, I love this channel and appreciate you my good man. Thanks!
Midlife crisis was released in 1992 no excuses was released in 1994 keep that in mind
👌
They used a sample of the opening drums for Cecilia by Simon and Garfunkel mixed in with Puffy on the album and you can here it being triggered as he plays
I'm an open handed lefty and play with pretty much the same setup. I started playing in 92, self taught and never had lessons (not a boast, more of a regret) I started listening to FNM about a year later. I didnt take music at school but was asked to help out a friend with his music project and when I went in to play drums, a music teacher criticized me and told me I should play with a left handed setup. I didnt listen to him but it did start to bother me and if I maybe should change or just try and play right handed. Then I got the FNM video with all their videos and that's when i noticed Puff played the same way. I felt almost vindicated and certainly much better about my setup. I still play the same way today. The only thing about playing with the ride in that position, the snare mic can get in the way. Especially as a play with a 24" mega ride 🤣 Great video Andrew and totally spot on. No rules!
Plenty of silly teachers out there offering dumb advice like that.
Don't listen
Really feeling the message by Springy at the start. I've been sick for over a decade, and bedridden for the last four years.
Starting to put things back together, but nowhere near well.
The thing that got me through, apart from new music (particularly Japanese Visual Kei), was reaction channels like this one.
While being trapped in the same room for years it's given me a huge amount of social interaction, and in a number of cases a sense of belonging and community.
For isolated people like myself simple things like a person to share music with are life support.
Never undersell what you do here, it's more than drums, it's more than music, it's community and connection.
Bordin is a boss, and was a big motivation for my younger drumming days, especially when I saw the open hand technique, I hadn't found Simon Phillips yet, so seeing that encouraged me to not be as concerned about the "right" way to play, and consequently I can now play open and crossed/traditional.
Fnm have also been a big influence on me musically.
Awesome band.
Thank you for this great message 🙏
@@AndrewRooneyDrums thank you for reading it. 🙇♂️
Bordin once filled in for David in Korn...and he goddamn nailed it!
Mike Patton. Greatest vocalist of all time.
6 vocal octave range
Mike Bordon.. amazing drummer
Billy Gould is a God on bass
Roddy owns the piano synth
And jim.. well hello
Rolling stone didn’t even put mike in top 200 of all time and it disgusted me. I can’t name another singer that can cover mikes range and perfect technique. So many singers are limited unlike mike who breaks out of the box. Not to mention he’s self taught
@@AdamJFields my friend. Rolling Stone is trash
i always thought the weird sounds at the end of this performance were Roddy hitting the wrong key/sample
Yup might be actually
Check out mike's work on the Ozzy live at the budokan dvd. I'm sure there's individual tracks from the set around.
Great review Andrew . Big fan of the man with the very very long Dreds -- his toms are flat and are probably the best recorded drums i have ever heard . Regarding having the Ride on the left , if you check out my f/book photos you can see that is my setup ride just above the hats ) - as well as having a larger tom - before - a smaller tom .
Also Mike bordin played with Ozzy O - who said that - Mike B has an incredible metronome ( which you picked up on staright away re - his left foot keeping solid tight time )
Mike also went to a Soth American country - Brazil i think and went deep into the jungle to learn a few new interesting patterns , one of which can be heard on the song -- Everything's Ruined -- from the album Angel Dust .
Shihad did a US tour with FNM and Mike Bordin started playing some of the beats of the great Tom Larkin ! Be great to talk about Tom Larkin as i reckon he is an amzing NZ drummer ... Cheers
Shihad has sucked arse ever since they changed their name. In the 90s they made solid songs, ever since very little creativity, generic pop structured alt rock. The Foo Fighters of NZ where the sum is far less than the parts. Decent musicians writing crap songs for the most brainless listening
FWIW : The "odd" notes at the end was Jim Martin on guitar. Jim and the band were not on the same page musically at the time (hence his exodus after this album). It appears from the beginning of this video he had a problem with his sound (standing directly in front of and facing the stack). This song is also one of the few songs with no "epic solo" and Jim was, IMHO, showing his displeasure with the whole affair.
Way interesting thanks
Is this actually true?! I've seen a lot of reactions to this video and everyone gets weirded out by those clean guitar notes at the end of the broadcast. From what I can see / hear, Jim Martin is playing the power chords to the chorus of the song (E, D, A, IIRC) until the end of the performance. With overdrive / distortion, so it would kind of be impossible to do that *and* play those clean guitar notes that you hear simultaneously. It honestly sounds to me like the house band tuning up and it accidentally getting mixed in with the FNM performance or something. But I know they hated Jim at this point, so maybe they just fucked with his equipment somehow.
do time bandit next (tim powels) a good one is The Church - Kings (Live in Sydney) | Moshcam
The real thing was a super influential album to me at 14 years old and the older they got the better and more diverse they got and I hope I have as well
I was 14 when my mother took me to Prague for Guns and roses concert...
I fell in love with Soundgarden and Faith no more instantly.
The real thing is and always will be my favorite album of all!!
I take it to the grave because I know it by heart :)
I never really liked music Mike Patton did with other bands...
In my opinion FNM have the tightest drum and bass in the universe.
And Roddy at the keyboard...
I love love love Faith no more ❤
Mike Bordin was Black Sabbath drummer too!!
would be interesting to see your reaction comment on the isolated drum track for this song which is available here on CZcams..
I've just recently gone on a Faith No More kick. If you get a chance, end to end Angel Dust. Thanks for the vid.
Mike Bordin probably has the most higher positioned rack toms, and they're not-angled towards himself.
This is the only song other than Epic I've ever heard by Faith No More. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. Pretty cool shit considering how old it is now, I imagine it was extremely progressive for the time. Glad I chose to watch this one :D
On another note, I recommend checking out Bryan Fajardo. Video in particular "Drum Cam - Bryan from P.L.F live @ObsceneExtremeFest 2022".
A blast beat wizard, and the definition of relaxed and loose. The dude plays in some fast and brutal grind bands and looks completely unphased or bothered. Technically fantastic as well. Check him out!
Make sure you don't overlook The Mars Volta's Thomas Pridgeon if you like sick drums. Rollins Band's Sim Cain also very sick. But yeah, no argument, Bordin is a metal-drumming Cadillac.
Mike was taught by guru Chuck Brown, who also taught Terry Bozzio.
Patton says midlife crisis is about thirsty Madonna
Mike Bordin is so under-rated
Паттон настолько крут как музыкант и харизматичен как артист, что сложно вообще следить за другими музыкантами 😂
This album, Angel Dust, is FNM's best and one of my favorites.
Hey love all the reactions BUT
one of the world's biggest bands never even mentioned?
Pink Floyd!
Please please please can someone get Andrew to check out
Pink Floyd "Echoes" (Part 1) live at Pompeii 1972
Nick Mason a drummer who always does exactly what's needed🤔
Side Note: There was some weird white noise/faint static going on throughout this video. It was most notable when the video was muted/paused and we just hear your mic audio.
(Sorry new headphones. :D)
Thank you!
Yup it's really hot here. My air con is wreaking havoc with my audio mix.
I'm on it!
Or like Simon Phillips you ride righty on right side of set and lefty on left side of set
This whole band is full of exceptional musicians, but i always thought Mike Bordin and Billy Gould were the glue that kept everything together.
Yes that's the engine for sure Mark!
Amen ❤
You need to listen to all..

was it just me or did the keyboard player chuck a few random notes in at the end lol have a great day fella
Faith No More - King for a day... that album made the dummer I am. Mike Bordin plays exactly what the song needs.
Btw anyone got bamboozled by the fact that Courtney Love used to be the vocalist for FNM? Weird...
I couldn't get that either...
If I remember correctly from an interview I watched,
there was some dating with a member of the group involved,
so that could be the only possible reason... 😉
It's taken a while, bit I think KFAD is better than Angel Dust...just
Midlife crisis was out before No Excuses. By 2 years
👌
Also React To Frank Beard of ZZTop
Great. Don’t know much about them other than the main hits
Hey check „Tobias Schuler“ from „Der Weg einer Freiheit“
You still haven’t reacted to Ulcerates drummer. He’s from NZ and easily one of the best drummers around.
I don’t know if you simply won’t react to it because it’s death metal, or because you think it wont get views.
His ability and talent is off the charts. Give it a watch.
