- Hunting sea shells on a sand bar is pretty much the best way to spend a few hours in my humble opinion. Summer is typically slow for shelling so I thought I'd try my luck on a kayak shell tour.

Hunting sea shells can be a bit tough when your combing the same beaches everyone else is, so getting out and away from the usual foot traffic not only keeps the amount of people you'll encounter to a minimum, but hunting sea shells on a sandbar pretty much give you the best chance of finding the good shells!

I came across your videos and not being near the ocean, I live in Ohio, I became fascinated with all the different shells. I have to say I love your videos, you explain the different shells so well that I can now identify some of the shells you find. I have watched other videos of people looking for shells but they don’t come close to your videos. Love the beach time also.

I know how far away from sea shells you are so it's pretty cool that you are learning them all the way from OH! I think that is an albino murax. I'm not an expert by any means it's my opinion. I also think this sandbar was fabulous for shelling. It was an awesome fabulous shell haul. I loved the hinged spiny jewel box , the gorgeous horse conch, all the sand dollars. I loved all of your shell finds. This kayak tour was the best tour yet. Sand bars can be so great for shell finds. Thanks for the beach time and letting us walk along with you. And dream of being where you are, on a lovely Florida beach.

I could hardly wait for today's video! What awesome shells you found! I believe that last shell is albino because there is no color in the inside. I could see the outside getting bleached by the sun, but not the inside! Congratulations!

SWF I am heading back from Sanibel and Venice and… ITWASAWSOME! We found a couple of true tulips and angel wings and soooooo much more and a non spine sea urchin! We had a blast and we found shark teeth from Venice and the museum was AWSOME ty for letting me get inspired by you to come and LOVE your videos oh btw our best finds where from the light house in the surf where the waves break love your videos!!!

Thank you for these videos of shelling. I live near St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island and Tybee. On Tybee, I find the lighting Whelks and the Lettered Olives. On St. Simons not much of anything. But on Jekyll, I usually find sand dollars. I have found a way to preserve my sand dollars, I coat them in resin. Either the UV resin or the two park. Light coats and let dry for a couple of days.
Oh resin should make them nice and strong! Good idea 🤗 I'm too chicken to mess around with resin and I just do the ol' water + glue mixture.

That was very nice. I used to kayak a lot with Chris a few years ago. I don't think our kayaks are sea worthy right now. We probably need new ones. Wow congrats on those shell. So nice. Love the horse conch.

OMG, I love the rose murex! I think the one lace murex is most likely an albino, it reads pure white on my screen. I love that dark orange horse conch too. Congratulations on some gorgeous finds!
It was such a fun day of shelling - well, it was such a fun morning of shelling. I could have stayed all day. I'm definitely brining my kayak down there and exploring to my hearts content!

My sister-in-law found BUCKETS of knobbed whelks one February after a storm up at Asseteague, MD. I was so jealous! We went the following week and there wasn't one shell to be found. I think I'm making up for lost time! 😅

Nice rose murex! Love the videos. just got back from a vacation on Sanibel. I have been going to Sanibel with my family for 20+ years and I just found my first (very beat up) junonia. Also found a giant, uninhabited horse conch in neck-deep water and a couple of nice alphabet cones! Very exiting shelling trip and I can’t wait to go back.
Those are amazing finds!! Yes, I think I've finally figured out those big horse conchs are in the water somewhere and not rolling up onto the beach. I've been really wanting to snorkel but the waters have not been cooperating! I'm so glad you found such great finds! I hope you find even better ones on your next trip!

That rose murex was actually bright orange and not so much pink. Go figure. That spiny jewel box was a stunner! Yes that is definitely an albino. Bleached out shellies usually have some yellow on it. Lucky for u to have found and kept it lol . I dont have albinos in my area only rufinistic ones. If it is not dusty, its an albino

the white shell: you know i know nothing, BUT to me it looks fresh rather than worn, dry and/or pitted, so i think it is a genuine white shell....albino, i do not know since there are white mammals which are not albinos...but i do say it is a genuine white shell. *P.S.* thank you for taking us shelling with you!
I have found a few albino lightning whelks, what I believe is an albino FFC and now a lace murex. I think they're so unusual and different - just love them! Someone once asked if the creature inside would be pink. I would love to find a live one and find out one day! xoxox

@@SWFBeachLife we are driving down on the 16th /17th . Saturday will be the first beach day. I think we're heading to Stump Pass State. My brother in law and his wife hunt for sharks teeth. I do that also, but will hunt for shells too.

Beautiful shells. I really enjoyed your video I took my younger three out to Bird Shoals Island, NC for my son's birthday this past weekend and we found some cool stuff but we had to leave early both of my daughters started having heat exhaustion symptoms but come to find out they both had strep and pneumonia. They are luckily on the way to recovery and I will take them back out when they are 100%.
Strep and pneumonia? What troopers to even make it out to the beach! I hope they're well on their way to recovery and when you do make it back you find lots of treasures to take home. 🐚
Thank you and believe it or not they seemed fine until apparently they started running a high fever on the island, that’s what was causing the heat exhaustion symptoms, but luckily they are feeling a little better now. The crazy part they are 17 years old and they didn’t say a word about feeling bad until they were really sick. I definitely did not win the mother of the year award on this one I feel terrible that I didn’t realize they were sick. We are suppose to go to Ocean Isle Beach, NC in November and I hope they find all their bucket list shells.

That's spiny Jewel box was another gorgeous little piece. That piece of sand out there should definitely be called the bandit tulip bar! You are finding those left and right. Summers are traditionally "slower" when it comes to finding shells but boy was that sand bar a treasure trove! So many goodies out there and to find a couple of really great shells on the same trip was so awesome! Thank you so much for coming along. Can't wait to go back with my own kayak!
That white murex is beautiful i only seen one which is in your video. The only murex I find are faded and broken but what you just found isnt faded maybe its just albino. Anyways thank you for showing us and telling us about those shells you find i hope you will find a beautiful empty textile cone
If I ever make it to Australia, I would hope to find one too! That being said, I would be super careful as they are poisonous! Australia has so many dangerous critters! I'll be happy with my safe, albino lace murex. I find the beat up ones too, the good lace's are hard to find. I got quite lucky on this day 🤗. Thank you so much for watching!

If I were on my kayak and I saw a good sized shell I would probably jump in and try to get it! All the shells I've spied from my kayak I've been able to somehow get a closer look at. I can't wait to take my kayak back over this way to hunt for goodies again!

Love the Rose Murex! It sure looks like an albino murex to me. The spiny jewel box, WOW. I guess what you find in the summer also depends on the storms and hurricanes, pulling things up and churning the sand. It was awesome seeing the manta ray, that size. Great trip all around.
I was really surprised at all the incredible shells I was finding. It's so slow in the summer but now I know where all the snails are hiding! It was a fabulous trip. Can't wait to get back there with my own kayak and see what I can find! 🐚

The hurricane brought a little rain here but that was it. The sand bar was beautiful. There are some really creative and talented people that make some really amazing things with shells! 🐚
