  • The last time we checked in with K&F's filters, we found their new Nano-X filter series was a surprising bargain for the quality you get out of them. This time around K&F are extending the variable neutral density filter range to make an all-in-one filter to rule them all. But at what cost? 2-400 is a long way to go!

    Thanks! But you had to check color accuracy with WB fixed ;) Flare is a disaster with ND2-400. Also, it would be interesting just to see crops from the central part of the flare images. Especially to compare the loss of sharpness with no ND filter image. Thank you anyway!

    Where the ones you test previously still nano-x or where they nano-d or nano-k or whatever other line they might have had?

  • @sebastiang7183
    @sebastiang7183 Před rokem +1

    Looking at their filter line there does not appear to be much difference between lines. The No-X filters are just limited to a rotation range. Either less or more by using hard stops and thus that's how they get around the X pattern. The other filters are not limited and thus you can rotate it to display an X pattern. The range for no-X just is the amount of rotation that is limited. After that it appears that whether they start at n2 or n8 is dependent on the film they use with the latter allowing less transmission. You either buy a limited one that they limit for you because you prefer the handling and hard stops, or you buy one without hard stops knowing at some point you will hit the X pattern. After that there are just coating differences and of course manufacturing tolerances.

    i bought some k&f vnds and tested these
    I bought one nd 2-nd 400 B serieswithout any coating filter
    nd 2- nd 400 , C series a blue coatinng vnd
    and a nano no x nd 2- nd 32
    and these are cheap to costly in ascending order as i mentioned
    but i found no coating and nano x has less green cast while blue coating one has terrible green cast..i was thinking to keep blue coating one but i guess i have to keep either n b series or nano x
    do u thibk a coating helps?

      Coz nd 2-400 becomes quite dark just before that x pattern appears
      And have u tested jjc or nisi true color
      But as i have seen so many videos polar pro has done a great job on colors but out of budget one can get a used lens in that price .lol

    • @WesPerry

      It’s probably just that the wide range on this filter is a bit too ambitious. Their lower range round ones work better.

      Yes it seems that they only sell online as they're a value first brand that spends little to no money on store presence and advertising... which certainly has its ups and downs. There isn't really any way to try before you buy unless you know someone locally who has one.

    The thing that really annoys me and undoubtedly confuses many, is the use of the 2-400 sort of thing. Put it in STOPS and state that its around 8.6 stops. That way some might know what it is all about.

    May these be used to capture eclipses?

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  Před 2 měsíci

      I wouldn’t recommend it, no. They have 2 filters specifically for that.
      For solar photography you want something that is rated for IR and UV blocking specifically. And I doubt this one adequately blocks IR to be perfectly safe. Also, I don’t think the max filter is high enough. A typical solar filter is 16-20 stops, while this one maxes out around 8.5 I think?

  • @Micha925
    @Micha925 Před rokem

    Which filter do you recommend under 100$?

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  Před rokem

      Sometimes you can find these for under $100. But spending less and less can get you some pretty terrible colour shifts and image degradation, so you definitely get what you pay for to some degree.

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  Před 2 lety +1

      @@MnMS1904 infomercials are often dramatized more than they’d like to admit, and 60p makes it all the more obvious. Works against anyone trying to conceal anything, because the microexpressions on a persons face are suddenly much easier to read. Experiments have found it’s incredibly difficult act convincingly at 120p.
      On theatre stage IRL it only works because there is already a culturally expected understanding of falsehood.

  • @harrygilliland5675
    @harrygilliland5675 Před 2 lety

    I though all variable ND filters were two polarizing filters.

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  Před 2 lety

      Yes, but only insofar as they specifically polarize light to interact with one another, using “circular polarization” (like 3D glasses do in movies). These have little effect on the look of outside light coming in. This is super confusing, though, as this is not the same as a “circular polarizer”, which filters one angle of light, allowing you to rotate it to choose which angle you want to cut. The K&F VND +Polarizer has a directional circular polarizer as such.
