You said before that you agreed to a marriage contract and did not write your own vows as in many Christian weddings. 👎👎 Didn't like this one. I am not mad but very disappointed and...who knows what.
Women ARE obligated to study Torah, except religion flips things over to the convenience of the particular group without caring what The Almighty Father wrote as a commandment, law or decree. That is why He says "children of Israel" meaning both male and female, unless there is something specifically for men, like brit milah or for women like mikveh, but twisting things around they tell you to keep this and not that. So women miss out on using talit and tzitziot, etc, which is commanded into women as well. Judaism as praisers of Him is the answer; not Judaism as a religion with sooo many men-made commandments. As another example, the Torah states not to mention His name in vain, yet men command you not to mention it at all, which is not His word. Adonai, Elohai etc are okay as they are in the Torah but not hashem. Ha= the Shem= name so you are invoking "the name" which is any of the thousand gods there are. The worse part is that they do so knowing that you are not allowed to add to the Torah. When you do that it is following the creation and not the Creator. Also, Purim is just like the 4th of July or so because it wasandated by the queen, not by the Creator. So, it is okay to celebrate if you wish; what is WRONG is to add to the Torah saying it is a Moed -Holy Feast. Hannukah is a miracle; not a Moed either. You can have it as a reminder because it is important but it is not a commandment of The Father. That is messed up because why go through all the trouble of switching religions if you are still following man-made rules that take priority above The Father's.
I respect but I don't necessarily agree. It is a commandment not to mislead your brother. I am not saying you, Chana, as in doing in purpose, no, because you, yourself were mislead. You, as a women are not reading the Torah in depth but following what you are told without searching for the truth, which is what actually brought you here. Shalom!

@@carolinamoreno5419 I think it means, women are not obligated to study Talmud, the Oral Torah. They are not forbidden, though. But, frankly speaking, I tried studying Talmud, I don’t enjoy it, I would rather just study Chumash and other books of the Tanakh and enjoy it, than figuring out what to do, if a bull falls off the neighbors’ roof and accidentally kills your goat. I’m making it up, but there are cases even crazier than this is the Talmud.

Just a sweet thing to mention. My husband also was in the room when I was in labor. When each of our 4 children were born, my husband literally danced around the room singing Shema when holding them for the first tome. It is a cherished memory that each of my children know about. When I was able, I said the blessing for a boy or girl along with shehechiyanu. It still brings happy tears of joy to me. His reasoning was that he wanted HaShem in their lives from their first moments of life.

Good morning I just want to take a minute to thank you. I can’t tell you enough how appreciative I am for your openness. I try to teach my children that if they have a question about a persons culture or beliefs depending on the relationship it’s better to politely ask the question than wonder in silence. I don’t know why it is the fear of offending someone kicks in when we approach these types of questions. People like you are what I hope my kids encounter if they have questions. A nice open person who understands that curiosity is often just a yearning to understand another human. It’s nice when a person is okay sharing the reasons behind beliefs or behaviors. To me that takes down walls, builds bridges ,and knits people together where once their might have been a separation.
I think the world would be so much better with more people like you in it. I’m glad your kids have the benefit of learning your warmth and openness. Goodness knows the world needs more nonjudgmental open honest people ready to communicate with kindness.
I hope the sun shines on you and you have a good day. Crystal

Thanks so much for the Q&A’s. As a conservative Jew, I respect your choices very much. You are a natural teacher. I explain to my friends and family, the mitzvot are for drawing closer to and becoming more like Hashem, it’s all about self improvement which leads to bringing heaven to earth. When studying the Tanach, we learn how the Jews before us succeeded or fell short, how to make better choices in all our ways. There I look for inspiration to keep going on so many levels. When each person improves themselves, the family is improved, when families are improved the community is improved….eventually the world is improved.

I really loved your thoughts on creationism. As a child, I couldn't understand how God created the world in 7 days, when it takes months to build a house. My father explained it to me and it made sense. I was driving my daughter, then aged 4, when she asked "mama, how does the sky stay up?". I fumbled for a moment. She then said "oh I know, God holds it up". I'm not sure how I could have explained the reality, but children have a wonderful ability to simplify matters which could tie adults up in knots.

Hi Chana! Are restrictions exhausting? No for me too! I love your answer - same for me. The restrictions, the structure help me to connect with Hashem and enjoy my relationship with Him so much more.
I don't know if it's a Chabad or Ashkenazic Orthodox thing but the couples I know when they have their babies, the husbands are not in the room during delivery. The woman will have different females supporting her: Mom, sister, sister-in-law, doula, good friend. The husband will be right outside and comes in after. One couple I know has a beautiful tradition - after the baby is born, the nurse brings the baby to him and he washes their hands.
I love your Q&As so much! I'm getting to know more about you and Sephardic ways! I've known some Sephardic people but never knew a lot of differences other than we have different pronunciations of vowels and words. You've been teaching me a lot!

Oh what a tug tug heartstrings! I told him I would pray about and talk to his parents. I do know if we continue, we will be looking for a different curriculum.
