    As an electrician that does strictly remodels this is an absolute essential tool. czcams.com/users/postUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI Being able to precision cut any material with a light weight tool is priceless.I upgraded to this Dewalt 20v from a competitor's 12v. The Dewalt 20v is just as light as the competitor's 12v. I am extremely pleased with the overall performance and battery life of this tool. As far as oscillators go, they just aren't very ergonomic tools. The dewalt oscillators have an offset handle that do make them somewhat more ergonomic than the competitors' oscillators.

    Great video to watch if researching that tool. Thank you very much. Definitely sold me on the $12 value. Money aside rather NOT screw up my doors and spend more cash then end up buying doors. None of my interior doors have the striker plate on the door knob side so when I wanted to upgrade they all have that plate. Perfect tool (I hope) to be able to install the new knob assemblies.

    • @HomeRepairHub
      @HomeRepairHub  Před 3 lety

      My preferred method is a router, though you can use a chisel. A chisel is going to take quite a bit longer. To drill out the hole you can use a spade. Here is a good video: czcams.com/video/_JrqF7TYTOI/video.html

    • @jekinneys
      @jekinneys Před 2 lety +3

      To be fair, you know how hard it is to perform many tasks while trying to video the tasks? Imagine trying to perform this task with arms fully extended in one shot (no retakes) so the camera has a decent view. Most people would naturally be on top of the door where a camera wouldn't be able to see anything. Yeah, wasted a door but I appreciate it. None of the doors in my house have that striker plate style door knob assemblies and Home Chepo has almost no details on their site on how this works. So because he screwed up a door, I know it probably a decent $12 value for me.

    what about the strike plate? Can this tool be used to also install the strike plate on the door frame?

    • @HomeRepairHub
      @HomeRepairHub  Před 3 lety

      It could be used in conjunction with other tools. This tool isn't specifically designed for the strike plate, but you could definitely use the chisel to cut out the wood to set the face plate and I am sure you could use the cutting insert to score out the location for the hole. You would still need a chisel or router to cut out the hole for the door latch but I am sure this tool could be used. As I said its not specifically designed for the strike plate, but it could work. This is what I use to template the strike plate. amzn.to/2U2Mf9n

  • @mairtinmagowan4413
    @mairtinmagowan4413 Před 3 lety

    What are the exact dimensions of the metal scoring tool - the size of the actual latch plate cut out? I need to ensure it is compatible with the latch plates before ordering. It is Not universal, as I have read elsewhere as both latch and strike plates do vary in size. Thank you

    • @HomeRepairHub
      @HomeRepairHub  Před 3 lety

      The metal scoring tool is 1 inch wide. The latch plate cut out is 2 1/4" x 1". The scoring tool is going to be the same as the width of the latch.

  • @jordancorey
    @jordancorey Před 3 lety

    How strong is it? It looks like it would break if you hit it too hard with a hammer. would a rubber mallet be better?

    • @HomeRepairHub
      @HomeRepairHub  Před 3 lety

      No, you can hit it with a hammer. The yellow piece is plastic, but there is a metal chisel and metal scoring tool that won't break. As long as you hit the strike area you will be fine.

    What about the damage done to the door?

    • @HomeRepairHub
      @HomeRepairHub  Před 3 lety +1

      The door used in the video was an existing door that had already. I have used the tool on 5 or 6 of the doors in my house and it didn't cause any damage. If you are concerned about it causing damage to the door, I would practice on a block of wood or old door. This also helps so you know how hard to hit the cutter. You definitely want to make sure you hit the cutter hard enough so the chisel will cut out the excess wood without it splintering.
