Back with another Halloween costume project. My son REALLY wanted to be a hobbit from Lord of the Rings, with big hairy feet! How could I say no?

Is there anyone else who was just cracking up the entire time or was that just me? Bob, your son’s taste in costumes is awesome! Hobbits are the best!
If you ever need to make larger fake feet, you can soak a silicone mold in acetone, and it will swell a fair amount. If you keep molding the new larger feet, you can quickly get to a massive Bigfoot size with all the fine details your original foot had. This was a common method used before digital scanning and 3D printing existed.
that's a great suggestion!
Dad of the year!
Love how you make content not geared toward trying to appeal certain audience just to get the views but making ones that you find interesting.
You inspire all of us
What if Bob is his own target audience? Builds that appeal to him appeal to us too.
Just yesterday seen Evan and Katelyn using "personal" Vibrators to remove Air bubbles from Concrete and today seeing Bob from ILTMS with a casting of his own feet for Silicone Hobbit Feet. What a time to be alive!
I was dying during that E&K video xD Their subtle jokes got me every time
they're not that kinda channel! but have edged that line way too much
@@matthewpillai6822subtle? Thats not quite how i remember it😂
I saw that one yesterday as well.... LMAO!!
Evan and Katelyn do make some cool projects but Evan totally rubs me the wrong way so it's a struggle to get through their videos. I'd rather watch Bob make nasty feet any day of the week lol
I remember my mom going all in making whatever craziness I wanted for halloween. Glad to see you are doing the same. Best parent ever.
Bob - I love when you love what you make. I’m sure your 10yr old will NEVER forget what his dad made for him!!!
Best thumbnail ever, feets down
I was laughing the entire video, great job Bob! Also, that's such an excellent thumbnail, 10/10.
I love everything about this video! Your sons taste in good books, your desire to make his Halloween costume over the top, and how it all came together in gross awesomeness!
After hearing your concerns on the podcast, I just wanted to say that regardless of video performance, this is a 1 out of 10 father son memory.
Dad of the year award goes to you Bob! Lovely video to watch!
I think this is one of your best vids in a long time. It was you filming something you wanted to do, not someone making content as a business. Those are different things to me, and it feels different when you watch. More genuine. I hope it does well in both aspects. Great job!
This thumbnail is amazing. Happy you and your son had a good time. No video will replace that. Thank you for all the hard work and sharing.
I once helped a friend with a hobbit costume.. :P I made a skirt for her, helped her find a wig, and for the feet, we found some nylon ankle socks that matched her skin tone, cut of a few curls from the wig, and stitched them on there! XD
Those are hilarious and weirdly floppy. They look great in the woods. Maybe someday you could do my feet. :)
The sound as the foot comes out at 6:17 absolutely got me in hysterics hahaha
Just got done hearing you talk about this on the podcast. Gross or not, they turned out dang near perfect. These are definitely Harfoots if ever I saw them. The important thing is you both had fun. Thanks for sharing!
My son is going as a hobbit for Halloween too, but we just got some hobbit slippers for him to wear. He will be so jealous of what you made for your son!!
This is what you call a great father son relationship.
Tolkien consistently described the hair on Hobbit feet as thick and curly: "Their feet grow natural leathery soles and thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads (which is curly)", and it surrounds the feet, encompassing the heels. "It was a long time before the hair on the back of his [Bilbo's] head and his heels grew properly again." I have never seen an artistic rendition that has this correct. (I suppose it is difficult to do this without making them look like bunny slippers.)
The raw chicken part cracked me up. Nice work!
😄🐓
The color worked out rather well: good job! I hope your next silicone application goes as well or better!
The best thing to have when casting your own body parts is a helper - it reduces most of my anxiety is having someone who can pour and run and fetch if something is forgotten.
Also, there are a lot of adhesives and tapes that stick well enough to silicone these days, but what I usually use is Permatex Adhesive Sealant (Clear RTV Silicone). You get a chemical bond to most silicone and you can get a mechanical bond to other (non-smooth) materials. I have used it to fix torn tin cure silicone molds.
‘It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door. You step into the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to’
#1 Dad!
That could be a merch shirt or sticker idea for you too because you’re a great example of what fathers should be, especially from listening to no instructions podcast too.
Maybe you should have used the soft urethane foam they use for prop swords and larp weapons. It might have been easier to paint, not so shiny and probably more durable.
It came out great either way. But ya I've noticed a lot of prop people these days take the harder way with the fancier materials. I'd like to see if they could pull off something with "primitive " materials. I know watching faceoff. Some of the contestants didn't even know how to handle a cotton and latex buildup. Because they only knew about more advanced materials. Good prop and fx artist should know how to walk before they can run. Not saying this guy doesn't know. Just giving an example.
I literally finished the podcast just before watching this, and your worries (while charming, and "real") are completely unfounded. This is AWESOME! What a truly delightful project and video - please keep doing more of these. Your passion and joy and "I'm going to try something I've never done before" are inspiring and entertaining, and why I look forward to these every time. There are lots of woodworking youttubers - there's nobody even close to the unique perspective you bring to the world.
Thanks for that!
You really shined as a father! I am sure your son will never forget this. Good for you Bob! Thanks for taking the time to share.
I appreciate that!
They look great!! I think the colors came out perfect and the hair works just fine. The problem solving of having him wear socks with a sole glued on is genius. Filing that one away...
The only MINOR improvement would be to cut the shine - maybe some matte fixative or something before gluing on the hair. Really minor nit.
You asked if you could, but you never stopped to ask if you *should*. ;)
Great job!
Making memories the best part.
those turned out really good.
if i remember correctly, in the movies, for the wide shots and any shot where the feet weren't prodomently displayed, they wore shoes that had feet over them. probably something similar to converse chucks, since they would be running in them. so you could have used women's slippers instead of the insole glued to a pair of socks.
This was fantastic! I especially enjoyed what I hope was just forby's "live train of thought" subtitles. 😂
Glad you were able to score a victory over de feet.
Hahahaha
Your Son likes them and I'm sure his friends will too. So well done.
Your son is literally walking in his dads footsteps!
Hi Bob. I would suggest that you try painting the socks a meaty red - instead of a skin colour. I think that the faint show-through of a "flesh" colour should make the feet look more lifelike. Using red as a base colour is what the SFX folks do to make their prosthetics look more realistic.
Dude...baby oil. It works as mold release for skin, and helps prevent hairs from getting caught in the alginate.
Also, colder water keeps the alginate from setting quite so fast. It's uncomfortable, but it's a lot easier to work with.
Heard your reservations about this (and previous) video in the podcast. Really enjoy seeing you be "real" and stumbling before finding a solution that works! Keep up with making content that excites you! I hope that content continues to provide sustainable income, so I can keep enjoying new videos. It is a better video in the end if you're having fun creating the project
I appreciate that!
Those are Legendary!!!!
Your son is literally walking in your footsteps.
The thumbnail!!😂👌🏻👌🏻
That's definitely one of your best videos in a long time - by far! Couldn't help but grin the whole time watching it.
Man, I'm really glad I decided to watch this while eating my breakfast. That was a very intelligent decision on my part.
Dry brushing some actual dirt onto them might cut some of the high gloss shine of the silicone.
This thumbnail is EPIC!!
A suggestion? I'd add some cheap press on nails to give it gnarly toenails.
Great idea!
It's always fun to watch hero dads heroing in real life. Nice work!
Way to go Bob! You are a great dad and amazing content maker. Thank you for all you do.
Me going into this: But I already have Hobbit feet 🤔
At the same time though, I kinda wanna do this project myself 😂
I needed this tutorial. I'm doing a group LotR cosplay so Hobbits are a must. 🙌
Awesome gross feet. Your son will remember this project forever.
9 years ago I made silicone Hobbit feet for my 12 year old daughter. I made moulds of her feet, pulled plaster foot from those, sculpted the hobbit feet referencing my feet, made a mould of those and cast them in silicone, tinted them and hand punched hair into them. a lot more work but only slightly better than the ones you made.
Absolutely hilarious, and very cool, that Halloween costume including Bob's hobbit feet: awesome!
Lol during a Facebook live with Sean Astin (Goonies/LOTR actor), which i never knew was real until he read out the silly Hobbit hairy feet storyline gag i asked..
So awesomely gross! Great job. I know your son will always remember this project and as an added benefit he will always be able to go back to CZcams and relive it.
This is actually a really cool project! How fun!
I think you should do optimus prime with hobbit feet for halloween 😊
I think they look really cool, and very close to the movie. Job well done. Can't wait to hear the comments your son gets on Halloween.
They're great! And your kiddo looks awesome in his costume! Well done!
I like the variety of stuff you do, but I think the prop/costume is very interesting. I haven’t had much exposure to it, and have watched Frank I’s stuff because of you as well. Very cool
I just made the huge mistake of watching this with my 13 year old son who is obsessed with Lord of the Rings and Hobbits. Now, he wants me to do this for him for Halloween. Thankfully I convinced him that there isn't enough time left to do this for this Halloween. Also I wear a size 13 sneaker, he wears a size 12. I don't think there is enough size difference to do it.
from another comment here: "If you ever need to make larger fake feet, you can soak a silicone mold in acetone, and it will swell a fair amount. If you keep molding the new larger feet, you can quickly get to a massive Bigfoot size with all the fine details your original foot had. This was a common method used before digital scanning and 3D printing existed."
Maybe there is time 😉😄
Amazing job Bob! I'm really enjoying the comically large wearables direction that the channel is going in. Maybe you could make another pair for R2 to wear? 😂
You make a great Hobbit Bob. If I'm ever tasked with taking a magic ring to throw into a volcano, I know who to call for the quest! 😄
Pretty good looking Hobbit feet, IMO, great creativity and outside the box thinking.
That is disgustingly awesome. Well done.
This came out AWESOME!!!!
Great video! I really hope that in some great many years someone comes across these feet in a dusty box in an attic with no context at all.
I took one for the team Bob. I have an aversion to feet..they're dirty and gross and I don't touch em except to wash my own. Adding the fish and chicken references really made it over the top. I was entertained though, and had a chuckle at your boys' reactions. Thank you.
That was the best and worst thing I've seen in awhile! The excitement on y'all's face when the foot came out the first time even though it wasn't perfect. Love it!
Dude, you did great, and the fact that your son loves it is even better!
Great job dude. That was super fun and it was exciting watching you get excited
Thanks man!!
I love that you made this for your son, awesome costume idea😄
More of these very unique one off builds please. Really enjoyed the topic, the content and the wise input from the editor
The mayority of hair on a hobbit's foot is actually on the bottom, can u believe it? Although they do have a thick, beautiful (its a point of pride😂) mop on top, the point is to make walking through the woods a silent process
Honestly, I think they look perfect. quite shocked at how well that worked.
Fun project, and the best part is the memories made with your son! Good job Bob!
That's perfect ! Also, quick suggestion : next time you're working with a quick-setting material, I thought it might be soooo cool if you had a gopro shot or something :)
Great video! We were scrolling through my CZcams subscriptions and this thumbnail caught my wife's eye. So we watched it together and had a lot of good laughs. Thanks!
What a great Dad!!
BOB. Those are amazing.
Nicely done!!
Great job. Goal achieved with success! Hilarious editing! The most important is that your son liked! Very good father/son activity! Happy Haloween!
Well done Bob & I am certain that Frodo would approve! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 🎃🎃💀💀👍👍
Beautiful. Just beautiful!
Thank you very much!
Just can’t get enough of this video and the thumbnail.
This is such a clever and unique costume idea. Really enjoyed this video and I learnt a lot. Also, I think the thumbnail of this video is on point 👌 you make a really good Hobbit, Bob.
Next project: making a replica of the one ring?
Those "feet" turned out perfect. Nasty, gross and disgusting but perfect. You did a great job on them and your idea of molding them to your feet was ideal.
This is awesome. These last two have been great. Let's blow this video up everyone!
Really cool to see you pull this off! They look amazing!
Thank you so much!!
They're actually really good.
I think they turned out perfect. I would be proud to wear them 😂
Oh my gosh. They are totally gross but super cool! You are a super cool dad!!
That is so awesome!!!
Absolutely wonderful!
Awesome. You keep coming up with fun things to do. Stay creative.
These are great, one of your best projects yet and I’ve been watching for more than 10 years….
This is hilarious, and awesome! PS that thumbnail is so amazing!!!!
hahaha so much fun! the hear really made it pop lol
They look amazing!
That's awesome, well done!
