  • My 1967 f-250 4x4 highboy build I call Ultimate Highboy. Fe428 cobra jet spec motor and 6r80 trans.
    In this video I change the rear Dana 70 gears to 4.10 gear ration and I take it out and test it on some rocks.

    Just found your build videos today. Found it very interesting. I’m second owner of stock 70 highboy. Just got it last year. Starting to prep it for the canyon lands 4x4 trail next spring. My only real mod will be a/c. Just need to make sure it’s reliable. Good luck on your trip. I’m in Cedar City Utah.

      Terry Witbeck very cool! Stock highboy on the trail would be an experience for sure! Probably a little slower going than I’m used to. We are stick rocking it with no ac. Might add it before the summer. I got the ac in my 72 working last spring and it’s a pretty welcome addition in the summer.

    I like your videos, not the music ,however, explaining how to do what you do is awesome just like to know how to install rear end gears .😊

    First thing you got to do is get that back bumper off because that kind of bumper gets hung up on everything.

    That`s an old wall you drove over. Someone piled those stones like that.

    • @MattKubik1791
      @MattKubik1791  Před 3 lety

      Definitely not a stone wall. We built this road in the early 90s with a dozer. 👍🏻

    Loved the video. I'm kind of in a similar situation I just bought a 1970 4x4 f250 but I found out it was converted to 4x4 with 1975 highboy parts. Should I take those axles out since I have drums on all corners rn? Is it convenient to keep leaf springs in the front or switch to coil spring?

    • @MattKubik1791
      @MattKubik1791  Před 3 lety

      thePhysics meister well all depends on what you want out of the truck. Nothing wrong with the drums they just won’t perform like disk. You can get a Dana 44 out of a 77-79 truck and it will have disk brakes. It will swap right over. Coil springs will improve the ride for sure but loose originality and is a ton more work.

      @@MattKubik1791 I would like the disks for the safety when towing and in the rain because I heard they can lock up

    • @MattKubik1791
      @MattKubik1791  Před 3 lety

      thePhysics meister you can for sure change it out for a disk brake axle that will bolt up they are just hard to find. And if you want Dana 60 that bolts up the price gets crazy. Disk for the rear are easy conversation but not as important as the front.

      @fomocoloco7172 Před 3 lety +1

      @@MattKubik1791 yeah that's what I was looking at. I would've bought a conversion kit for the front but they don't make them for those closed knuckle axles. I might just have to make a kit myself or start learning how to swap axles 😂😂

    When changing the rear gears how does that affect the front diff if in 4x4 ?...do they need to be the same ?

    • @MattKubik1791
      @MattKubik1791  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes they need to be the same. The front already had 4.10 I changed the rear to match.

    • @MattKubik1791
      @MattKubik1791  Před 3 lety +1

      Its a slang term for 67-77 f-250 4wd trucks. Ford never called them that It just got picked up somewhere in the 80s-90s. I think it comes from the fact that these trucks sit up higher from the factory than your standard later model 4wd truck.

      It was a high pinion front axle originally and they had to lift them for the driveshaft to clear the oil pan. Hence the name!
