Jomtien is a wonderful place to vacation or, better still, to live. I visited in November and came back 'for good' (I hope!) in February. I have zero regrets about moving to this beautiful place. I say 'be patient with yourself' and you will figure it out. You are going to mess up a time or two. So be it.
Good idea to break it down for the newbies. If they have a good 1st visit, they are more likely to come back for more.

Nice start, but needs more detail. For example, if you're not going to pay when you get your bin, at least check it periodically to discourage any "padding." Second, use Grab or Bolt, the rates are fixed. Lastly, you are the customer, don't meekly accept the girl that approaches you if you don't fancy her. Sit down, get a drink, look around and make you choice. If you don't see anything you like, pay and go to the next one.

Here's one I came across right after arriving in Thailand (CM) for the first time. The songtaew driver quoted me 15 baht to my destination which is US $.50. I kept repeating 15 knowing he probably meant 50. Asian countries have trouble with the -ty / -teen sounds) Even using my fingers to show 1 & 5. He kept saying yeah. So we arrive at my destination & I gave him 15. He flew out of the truck thinking I was trying to cheat him WITH A CALCULATOR to show me my mistake (why didn't he use it originally 🤔 . I gave him the 50 (it was worth $1.50). Obviously, $1 dollar isn't a big deal especially when you realize legally I'll never win that debate & he was ready to fight (don't fight Thais because everybody will join the fight against you). But that might become expensive with bigger numbers.

Get used to the bar-lady adding ice-cubes to your beer, usually without asking you if you want them to, this keeps your beer cool ... and you get used to drinking it that way ! Nice to be looked-after !

I never thought of having ice in my beer until I came to Thailand. Seems to be the norm now on a hot day. Just be careful with this in the market area outside bars as the ice may come from the same giant container where they have been cooling bottles of beer. 😎

Good informative video for the Newbies Neath ;-) I was based in Pattaya for my 1st two visits but then settled on Jomtien 10 years ago as my go 2 place. Pattaya is great for the two week millionaires, in fact stay away from Jomtien, it's over priced and way 2 over crowded whilst being 2 quiet at the same time 😎

You get a better exchange rate st the bkk airport than you would at an airport in the United States. The exchange rate and service fees eat up most of your money. My first time going to Thailand, I exchanged money at the airport in my home country only to find out that I could have done way better at bkk with no service fee and better exchange rate.

Good advices, Heath, my best advice to not get knocked over by a car or a motorbike on places like Soi Buakhao is to walk towards traffic. And if you`re walking down 2d Road, which actually has a sidewalk, keep your eyes on the floor once in a while, there can be loads of obstacles there

    Hello Everyone,
    1. What Heath is speaking about moneychange on the beginning of this video = correct!
But if you arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport you can go down to the basement, follow the sign to "Airport Raillink". Don't go to the ticket machine for rail.
Go on left side around, maybe 30 meter and you find 2 or 3 public moneychanging with normal public rate like you go to the yellow places for changing in Pattaya or Jomtien.
Even in this basement place you find 1 station for change from Rich company.
Like heath say, don't change on the thai bank stations after getting luggage or so.....
    2. At the end of the Video about "ringing the bell(s):
My advise is: Never, never ring any bell!!
Only if you know what you're doing.....and if you like to through your money out of the window - you know what I mean.
Or maybe you want to be a 14-day-millionaire and you have to impress everyone around you!
In this case, maybe think about to look for psychological help and ask for therapy (Sorry 🙏).
Excuse me, my english is not perfect.
    🙏

I can recommend Nams lady taxi service from BKK to Pattaya and vice versa (they are based in Pattaya), used them a few times and the service is excellent, 1200 baht, but they do arrive earlier than you book them, but they are happy to wait until you are ready. Also on the point of lady drinks, my gf works in a bar and thats the only way they make money, so i will always make a point of buying a lady drink to help them out.

Hi Heath - great video. A few questions as a newbie. Going to be traveling from a bangkok hotel to pattaya - how best to get a taxi, and how long should the trip be? With the baht bus, does the driver tell you the amount of the charge when you get off the bus and pay? Thank you.

    • @oneendofthailand
      @oneendofthailand  Před 4 dny +1

Baht bus around Pattaya is 10 baht unless it's a long distance. You could get the normal bus from Bangkok if you want the cheapest option. A taxi from central Bangkok shouldn't be more than 1600/1800. Depending on where you are in the city you will see options for buses and taxis around the bus terminals. (Just don't use one of the unofficial minibuses hanging around outside where people see you and approach you) Walking around the tourist areas you'll see signs for taxi services.
