音の切れ目が美しい!
You should have waited for the orchestra to arrive. Nice playing.
nakedmambo I think I would have been waiting for a while. This was a recording I made for an audition, hence the ultra exposure. Thanks for checking it out.
Молодец, красиво 🎉

That's a Meinl Weston 2250TLT, the "French Touch" model
@@isaac_tubathank you so much!
Fantastic job!!! I am working on this piece right now for fun, and I was wondering if there was anyone you took inspiration from? I’m definitely going to try to emulate your style next time.
Hi Matthew, thank you for taking time to post on here. This piece is an interesting one because it’s THE go-to solo work asked for in auditions. As a result, most people learn this in a very flat, or ”correct” way that is pretty void of expressive qualities. In fact, even this recording was made for an audition. There are things here that I appreciate, but I would likely make different performance choices in a concert setting. I am a fan of the Øystein Baadsvik’s recording of it. Although a bit quick, it's very musically fulfilling. Other brass player that are a joy to listen to for articulation, note shape, and overall how-to of brass playing are Sergei Nakariakov, Phil Smith, Dennis Brain, Joe Alessi, David Zerkel, among others. Listening to brass players alone, regardless how inspiring they are does put us against a corner. Check out pianists (Avgeny Kissin, Martha Algerich, Vladimir Horowitz) string players (Yoyo Ma, Heifetz, Perlmam, Hilary Hahn, etc) and equally importantly other styles of music. I've been listening to a lot of Jazz recently. A great style for buying into the notion of ”message over handwriting.”
@@tubistjoseph Thank you so much for the quick and helpful reply. Keep up the amazing work!
Great playing!!! Which device you used to record this video or which device could you recommend? I wonder becasue I want to buy audio and video recorder - smth like Zoom Q8 or similar.
You are my inspiration! Congratulations!
Hi Adrian, thanks for the kind words. That video was recorded on Sony HDR-MV1, it’s my go to handheld recorder. The pro is that it has really good microphones, arguably better than the zoom Q8. The biggest downside is that it has a fixed wide lens so videos are better done elsewhere. Seems like when designing this device that the video component was a clear afterthought. I pretty much always have mine with me in my backpack! All the best.
Bravo!!!
Brasil!
Amazing performance of this, any tips on practicing it? I’m currently working in it on Bb tuba and it’s been a real challenge so far.
I totally agree this concerto on Bb tube is much harder

Question: What’s the difference between a B flat tuba and a F tuba?
Late reply but it means the instrument is pitched in F instead of Bb. The fundamental pitch (F) is higher than Bb so it plays in a higher register. Unlike trumpets or French horn tubas don’t transpose, so both F tubas and Bb tubas read the same notes on the page, but the fingerings are different. Weird stuff.
How many tubes do you use?
What key of tuba is that?
that would be a bass tuba so Bbb
How would you practice it
Hi Emiliano, how long have you been playing for?
Joseph Guimaraes 5 years
@@Emiliano-xn9wo If you ever want to chat via video, I would be glad to give you some ideas. No charge.
Joseph Guimaraes i would like to
What an great play. Good job Joseph!
Thanks, Aaron! I hope you're well.
Muito Bom ! Parabéns Joseph
Obrigado, Felipe!
great sound :)
I’m playing this for my freshman jury next semester, on a BBb, it’s hell.
Justin Phillips I’m trying to play it on a Bb as well. Which Tuba is it easiest on? CC or F Tuba?
Since it’s in f minor I would assume it would be easiest on an f tuba
I’m playing it on BBb too and I’m crying
@@its_shxblvrbs1786 the key of the song means nothing as compared to the tuning of the instrument. The range, however, does, and as such, an F tuba would be far easier.
Tuba Jesus?
For you opinion sir,is it possible to play this using the Bb tuba,I had try to play thie piece, but I found it very difficult
Although the sound on a BBb tuba will be broader than an Eb or F tuba, you should absolutely be able to play it on a contrabass tuba (BBb or CC). Take it slow, and place your focus on clear note starts and in a singing line. Best of luck.
@@tubistjoseph I'm having trouble with the high notes. What do you recommend to practice them?
@@jasonmartinez7667 use a drone and play as high as u can confidently and consistently with a good sound and practice the note above that and then repeat the process and make them sound the same.
Can you help me. I'm trying to play thins piece but I can't play anything over the C above the staff do you have any tips to increase my range with out sounding so strained
Hi, I can see why you are trying to learn this piece, it is a lot of fun to play and it's a wonderful piece of music. My advice to you would be to place this piece on the backburner for a little while longer. You don't want to rush building your range because it will likely lead to, like you said, a strained sound. Work on other pieces that will challenge you by being just beyond your current level, maybe something that stays around a C often or that goes up to a D or so infrequently. Work on that part of your range in the practice room, with drones and a lot of relaxation. Don't rush it. Unfortunately, this skill set is not one that we can spend a lot of time working on due to fatigue, so maybe spend 10-20 minutes a day gently working your way up.
Do you have any recommend piecee
A few pieces that come to mind are
- Lebedev Concerto in one movement
- Vaughan Williams - Six studies in English folk song
- Thomas Stevens - Variations in Olden Style (some of the variations may be a little high, but they can be played as stand-alone variations. They don't have to be played as a complete set)
- Alec Wilder - "Effie" Suite
These are all pieces you should be familiar with anyways, they will be a great starting point. They are by no means easy or "lesser works" than some of the harder concertos. There is a reason why they are considered standards in the tuba repertoire. Have fun!
I agree, I couldn’t recommend the six studies in English folk song enough.
Pode me mandar a partitura
