I am supposed to play this piece, granted I am excited, however I see college majors blast this piece and I am a 12th grade player. Any foot notes for and utterly terrified child?
It started out as more of a college level piece, so I wouldn’t worry too much. That being said, it is a staple of the tuba repertoire, and is often asked of the player on many auditions, so it is good to get a head start on it while still young. I began learning on my B flat my junior year of high school. This player is playing on an F, which makes the job much easier since it was written for the bass tuba. I wouldn’t worry too much about, but try and solidify your high range now, making it sound as free and open as you can
