I’ve always understood this story to mean that Satan simply “offered” Jesus things/challenges. Not that Jesus had to “struggle” with any kind of temptation. To me, the point of the story was to show that Satan has ZERO power over Jesus, not that Jesus had to fight satans power.
I also thought that this was a clear sign to the Devil that the messiah truly was there.. and because he wasnt tempted, also said "Do not tempt the Lord, your God," proving he is The TRUE ONE
Satan the forever idiot thought that since God was now in the flesh and feels pain as we do, and feels every thing a man feels he could out smart him. He tried and failed since he thought he was able to trick Adam and Eve once for they were perfect. Also remember same Satan that thought he could over power literally his creator that got him kicked out of Heaven.

God can be tempted. If I say over and over that God won’t hit me with a lightning bolt, He may decide that I should be hit by a bolt. The Bible is pretty clear He is very capable of doing that.
